Chapter 181. The End

After releasing the rune engraved on her longsword, Fran felt a wave of exhaustion wash over her.

She had cast spells so rapidly just now that even with ntal power like hers, the strain had been hard to bear.

Fortunately, her goal had already been achieved. Now all she had to do was wait for Connor to charge in. The mont he did, she would imdiately activate Blood of the Furnace and give him a brutal blow.

Connor stood where he was, his face completely calm, because he knew that no matter what he did now, the situation could not possibly get any worse.

His shoulder had long since lost the protection of its armor, leaving a thick, exposed arm bare to the air. A huge gap had been torn open across his chest, and beneath it lay a deep wound that was still bleeding.

He had not attacked at once because he understood that the timing no longer mattered.

Given Fran’s current state, and the battlefield already shattered beyond recognition, the result was already obvious.

Fran would not run. No matter how high she flew, she could never outrun a second-tier knight.

So there was no need for him to hurry. He simply took his ti and made every preparation.

“Mage, it seems this was your final trump card. Now it is my turn.”

As he looked at the longsword in Fran’s hand, its runes already dimd, his heart churned with emotion.

He had never seen a weapon like this before. It had actually been able to unleash an attack even stronger than a first-tier spell.

No matter where that sword had co from, he was certain of one thing: there was no way it could do that again in such a short ti.

If there really were ten swords like it, all releasing that sa attack at him together, then he would probably have died on the spot.

But there was only one such weapon, and it had clearly entered a cooldown state.

And that sword would soon be his. After killing Fran, he would take everything on her person and use it to make up for his losses.

Wait...

A stunned look suddenly appeared on Connor’s face, because he realized that if he killed Fran and took all the equipnt she had already shown, he would make an enormous profit.

It would exceed all the money he had poured into founding his knight order and multiply his original capital several tis over.

“You could have taken that token and let go. Do you regret it now?”

Fran smiled as she looked at Connor and said those words.

At the sa ti, she beca aware of the difference between Divination and the Astrology she used.

When she used Astrology, it felt as though so strange power was pushing every elent forward, driving events toward the scene she had witnessed.

And when Fran herself experienced the future she had seen, she would receive the power of Astrology, which reinforced her and provided montum for that scene’s unfolding.

Divination, however, was completely different. What she saw through Divination seed to be nothing more than information from the future. Beyond that, there was nothing at all.

Even the scene before her now was vastly different from what she had seen back then. The traces of magic alone were already very different from the scene she had previously witnessed.

Back when Fran buried Richter’s corpse, she had not felt it clearly. But now she could distinctly sense that when she experienced a scene she had seen through Divination, no “power” flowed into her body.

And earlier, when she had used the 【Lord of Radiance】 rune on her longsword to attack, she had even been able to control the direction of the strike, making it miss Connor and take out only the knight behind him.

And there had been no resistance at all, as though Fran could manipulate that outco however she wished.

For the first ti, she felt a trace of wariness toward the prophecies brought by Astrology.

Although that spell had helped her greatly in the beginning, once she understood more of its deeper operating principles, she could not help becoming more cautious.

“Let finish this battle first.”

Fran suppressed most of the thoughts in her mind and focused on dealing with Connor’s next attack.

Connor, however, was deeply provoked by those words. The expression on his face was far more frightening than the one Fran had seen in her Divination.

Picking up an ordinary iron sword from the ground, Connor pointed it at her and bit out each word in a asured rhythm.

“That is enough, Mage. Now you should accept your death.”

His face gradually returned to calm. He knew that no matter what Fran did now, it would all be useless.

Gripping his sword, Connor walked toward Fran step by step. His footsteps were light, and even at this distance, he still remained outside the attack range of her Blood of the Furnace.

Yet it was Fran who beca puzzled first. Why had he said this sentence rather than that one?

In that instant, she rembered the question she had deliberately asked before, whether he would regret it.

Had that one sentence provoked him? Was that why he had reacted like this?

Connor’s emotions were indescribably complicated. He thought of the knight order he had built with his own hands. After suffering such a catastrophic blow, it had been destroyed in a single stroke.

But in exchange, he had gained a fortune far beyond what he had imagined.

Leaving everything else aside, he felt that the longsword in Fran’s hand alone would be worth three hundred gold coins if he sold it to his father for research.

At that mont, he was even considering accepting his father’s proposal and abandoning this knight order altogether. In any case, the order was already as good as ruined.

And through his father’s recomndation, he could participate in a special experint for knights and obtain the power of the third tier.

Just then, he noticed Fran’s expression. It was not despair, nor was it the smile of soone calmly facing death. There was sothing hidden beneath it.

Connor had only just begun to react when he felt a suffocating wave of magical fluctuation.

His pupils widened, and within that fluctuation, he seed to realize sothing.

It was a magical fluctuation far beyond anything he had imagined, even greater than the spells cast by his father, and it seed to prove the words Fran had spoken earlier.

“My ntor is a Fourth-Tier Mage.”

He had not believed it at the ti. But thinking back now, the only person who could give a disciple a spell ring containing a third-tier spell was a true Fourth-Tier Mage.

Otherwise, if a third-tier spell ring really existed, then why would a third-tier mage not simply use it himself?

At that mont, he felt only that getting involved in this mission had been an enormous mistake. He had truly run into the disciple of a Fourth-Tier Mage.

Then he suddenly rembered sothing. With the last of his strength, at the very end of his life, he forced out the words:

“There is a transmitter in the tent linked to my life, inside a black parcel. Just destroy it within ten minutes...”

His father had specially left it for him, saying that if he was ever killed by soone, his father could use the location provided by that transmitter to trace the clues.

For a third-tier mage of the Astrology School, even the slightest trace was enough to deduce far more information.

And now, Connor did not want his father to co. He knew that a Fourth-Tier Mage was absolutely not soone his father could afford to provoke.
