City of Apprentices, Lodris, Enforcent Building.

The captain of the enforcent officers jogged over to Calf’s desk and said, “Investigator, the day you asked us to watch for—the day when the corpses are transported out of the city—has arrived. Tonight those rcenaries will take all the bodies out.”

“Very good. When they finish accepting the deliveries at six in the evening, we will conduct a surprise inspection there.”

The captain of the enforcent officers looked puzzled and asked, “Sir, why are we going to inspect that place? What does it have to do with—”

Calf waved his hand and interrupted him.

“You are not a mber of those two schools, so you may not know.”

“Actually, the most common channel for apprentices to purchase corpse materials is this very corpse delivery point.”

“Those rcenaries also know that apprentices desperately need corpses. As a very dangerous profession, their work naturally produces no shortage of bodies. Although the quality is not as good as the corpses carefully selected by specialized rchants, they make up for it with sheer quantity.”

“As long as an apprentice knows how to pick out bodies that are still usable, they can save quite a bit of money. As for the rcenaries, they are even happier to conduct such transactions. Exchanging a worthless corpse for copper coins is simply too profitable.”

“The one we are going to arrest is a rcenary nad Haide. He specializes in selling the corpse materials he collects on the final day of corpse deliveries, and he sells them specifically to the Modification School.”

“That rcenary will never expect that the inspections that used to be re formalities will cost him his life this ti. And the fact that he specifically sells to the Modification School will also bring trouble to them…”

The captain of the enforcent officers raised an eyebrow as he watched Calf speak with a faint smile forming on his lips, but he said nothing further.

Although he was still puzzled about how this was connected to the disappearance of the person in charge of the Modification School they were investigating, the ntion of “bringing trouble to the Modification School” made him wisely keep his mouth shut.

Although the enforcent officers were considered a dominant force within the City of Apprentices, and many apprentices had to obey their authority, when it ca to matters involving the various schools, it was best for them not to ask too many questions.

Fulan concealed her face and wore a gray-black robe. She pulled the hood over her head and also wore a pair of thick black gloves.

Before she even reached the destination, she was already feeling overheated. Sweat soaked her body, forcing her to put down the corpse bag she was carrying and lift it with Telekinetic Hand instead, reducing the heat generated by her body.

By the ti she finally arrived, she reached into her hood and brushed aside a strand of hair that had been dampened with sweat, trying to ease the discomfort. At this mont, she only wanted to finish quickly and return.

She walked straight toward the queue. The end of the line led into a small house. Even from more than ten people away, Fulan could already sll the stench of decay coming from inside.

The line moved quickly, and soon it was her turn.

Carrying the corpse with Telekinetic Hand, she entered the room.

The mont she stepped inside, a thick and nauseating stench hit her nose. The house had several ventilation openings, and a few rcenaries were sitting comfortably at the upwind side.

Following the actions of the person in front of her, Fulan threw the corpse onto the ground. To her surprise, she realized she could simply leave.

The person ahead of her had already walked away as well. No one conducted any inspection at all.

Wait, they are not even going to inspect the corpse? That is it?

However, her powerful ntal perception caught the low voices of the rcenaries, which quickly answered her question.

“Are we really just going to sit here without inspecting the corpses? I rember that mage specifically told us to open them up and check.”

“You must be new. You do not know that those mage lords say the sa thing almost every ti. Even if he gave us a few more copper coins this ti, so what?”

“It stinks too much over there. If you want to go check, be my guest.”

“And if we really go inspect them, do you think those apprentices with sothing to hide will spare us? What if one of them casts a spell on you, fools you, and accidentally scrambles your brain? Who would you complain to then?”

Only then did Fulan understand that these rcenaries simply did not dare to inspect the corpses.

Thinking about it, anyone capable of keeping those apprentices in line would have to be soone who had been part of a school for many years.

If a re group of rcenaries were stationed here to guard the place, how could they possibly discover anything suspicious?

Besides, those mage lords still possessed normal senses of sll. When a corpse rely slled slightly bad, it was already thrown here.

Who would willingly stay here to guard bodies that might have been rotting for who knew how long?

But this situation also gave her the perfect opportunity to slip through unnoticed.

Although she was not afraid of conflict, she preferred avoiding unnecessary trouble whenever possible.

She stepped out of the small house, never expecting things to proceed so smoothly.

“Everyone stop! Alliance Enforcent Team and Alliance Special Investigator!”

Several enforcent officers wearing uniforms suddenly surrounded the area with sothing resembling sealing tape, imdiately causing a commotion.

A few rcenaries standing outside panicked and ran off in another direction, leaving the apprentices who had been speaking with them completely bewildered.

However, the enforcent officers were prepared. Several of them imdiately rushed forward. One rcenary who ran a bit too slowly was caught, thrown to the ground, and pinned down.

“Damn it, so of them still escaped. I will go after them.”

Those rcenaries were clearly experienced and incredibly fast. In the blink of an eye, they disappeared from sight. Several enforcent officers imdiately chased after them.

anwhile, the apprentices beside Fulan began whispering among themselves.

“What is going on? Why are the enforcent officers here?”

“I have no idea. I think we should stay still. I heard them ntion an Alliance investigator…”

“What investigator?”

Fulan looked at the chaotic scene unfolding before her and shook her head helplessly. Of all things, she had to run into sothing like this.

If she wanted to escape now, she was confident she could.

Since everyone here was a mage, and she possessed unusually high Physique, she was not afraid of their pursuit at all.

She also had a Breathing thod specialized for speed. If she activated ntal Power as well, then unless the other side brought in a First-Tier lee professional, they would never catch her.

However, before coming here she had made great efforts to conceal her identity. As long as they did not conduct a detailed inspection, she was confident she could pass through unnoticed. There was no need to run now and attract attention.

Besides, she had heard them ntion the Alliance investigator earlier. She knew a little about that position.

If she was not mistaken, only a formal mage could serve as one.

If she ran now, there was no guarantee the other side would not use so kind of tracking spell to follow her.

But if she located that formal mage and struck him with a decisive blow, he would have no ti to cast any spells. At that point, she could escape however she pleased.

Calf walked over from the other side of the street. Several enforcent officers followed behind him, carrying a few rcenaries over their shoulders. Upon closer inspection, they were the very rcenaries who had attempted to flee.

“Which one of you is called Haide?”

He stepped forward and spoke slowly to the crowd.
