At around six-thirty the next morning, Chen Feng got up.
At this ti, Guo ngyao, who was sharing the bed with him, was still sound asleep.
Chen Feng didn’t wake her. He got out of bed, got dressed, washed up, and left the hotel room.
He needed to hurry ho to have breakfast with his parents. He had already sent his mom a WeChat ssage in advance, saying he wanted to eat sticky rice.
Sure enough, when he got ho, his mom, Zhao Xiaolan, had already prepared a pot of fragrant sticky rice.
Eating the sticky rice and sipping seaweed and egg drop soup, Chen Feng felt indescribably comfortable. While he was at it, he also told his parents about the progress on preparing the jewelry store, and ntioned that Yu Xiaohui would be handling the next stage of the preparations for him.
He also told them that he was heading back to Xiu Zhou today and that the soonest he’d be back would be next month. By then, the preparations for the jewelry store would be more or less finished, and he only needed to rush back before the grand opening.
This ti, Zhao Xiaolan didn’t nag him too much. She just told Chen Feng to get along well with Wu ngting once he was back in Xiu Zhou, and that it would be best if the two of them ca back together next ti.
Chen Feng of course agreed out loud. As for how things would actually go, he’d just see when the ti ca.
After breakfast, his parents, as diligent as ever, headed off to work first.
Seeing there was still so sticky rice left, Chen Feng—for once—had his conscience pricked, packed two portions, and planned to bring them for Yu Xiaohui and Guo ngyao.
This authentic sticky rice, made at ho with lots of spices, was already hard to find outside.
It wasn’t expensive, but the thought behind it was what mattered.
After he finished eating and packing his luggage, Chen Feng drove over to the Yujing Hotel.
Before getting in the car, he saw that it was not even seven-thirty yet. The two won were probably still asleep, so he didn’t ssage them in advance.
When he got back to the hotel, Chen Feng went to Yu Xiaohui’s room first, only to find that Guo ngyao was there as well. The two of them were already up and were discussing today’s recruitnt interviews.
"This sticky rice is made by my mom. You both should try it."
Chen Feng gestured with the two small plastic bags in his hand at the two of them.
"Auntie’s sticky rice? I went to your house and ate it last ti. I still can’t forget it. Hurry, give it to ."
The way Guo ngyao said it made it sound like she had already t Chen Feng’s parents as his girlfriend. But she wasn’t lying—she really had visited his house as a guest last ti, just in the capacity of a classmate.
Right now, Chen Feng couldn’t really call her out on it.
Fortunately, Yu Xiaohui didn’t seem affected by her words. Smiling, she also got up and took one of the plastic bags from Chen Feng’s hand.
"It’s a bit cold now, so just make do and eat it with hot water."
Chen Feng’s straight-man comnt didn’t strike either of them as inappropriate.
They were both not the fussy type to begin with—especially Yu Xiaohui, who ca from the countryside. Her family situation hadn’t been great when she was young, and she had gone through so hardship.
As for Guo ngyao, she was a tomboy and didn’t stand on ceremony about most things.
Besides, this was sticky rice Chen Feng had specifically brought for her (for them), made personally by his mom. That thoughtfulness was the most precious part.
So the two won didn’t mind it at all. Each holding a plastic bag, they started eating with great relish.
"Mm, this is so good. Auntie’s sticky rice is really authentic. Sticky rice this authentic is almost extinct on the market now—you simply can’t buy it."
Guo ngyao ate while praising non-stop.
Yu Xiaohui also complinted, "Auntie’s cooking is really great. Next ti I get the chance, I want to learn from her. Sticky rice is my favorite."
Guo ngyao imdiately said, "I want to learn too. We can learn from her together when the ti cos."
Yu Xiaohui just smiled and didn’t respond.
Chen Feng’s mom was going to serve as deputy manager of the jewelry store. Barring any accidents, after this round of recruitnt, there would be plenty of chances for them to interact.
Yu Xiaohui was confident she could get along well with Chen Feng’s mom. By then, having her teach her how to make sticky rice wouldn’t be hard at all.
Afraid they might choke, Chen Feng considerately poured each of them a cup of hot water.
The two won ate all the sticky rice with just plain boiled water, not leaving a single grain.
After the three of them chatted idly for a bit, Chen Feng saw that it was already past eight and said to them, "You two get back to work. I’ve got to drive back to Xiu Zhou."
Hearing this, both won looked at him with a touch of reluctance, but didn’t speak.
Chen Feng was already sowhat experienced at handling this kind of situation. He waved at them and said with a smile, "Once I finish up over in Xiu Zhou, I’ll co back and let you know. I’m heading out now."
With that, Chen Feng turned around in a carefree manner and walked toward the door.
Seeing this, the two won both stood up and followed him over.
From behind, Guo ngyao asked, "About how long will it be before you’re back?"
Without turning his head, Chen Feng answered casually, "Maybe ten days to half a month. I’ll try to co back earlier."
Yu Xiaohui, on the other hand, reminded him, "Be careful on the road. Don’t drive too fast."
"Mm, I got it."
Once he reached the door, Chen Feng finally turned back to look at the two of them and said, "Alright, you don’t need to see off. I’ll go down by myself."
After saying that, Chen Feng pulled the door open and left.
When the door closed behind him, both won felt a vague sense of emptiness in their hearts.
After a mont of silence, Guo ngyao was the first to speak. "Do you think he really has sothing to do in Xiu Zhou?"
Yu Xiaohui glanced at her and shook her head slightly. "I have no idea."
In a sowhat downcast tone, Guo ngyao said, "I think he’s rushing back mostly to see Wu ngting. If he and Wu ngting officially beco a couple, do you think he’ll dump us?"
Seeing this rich female boss, worth over a hundred million, acting like a seventeen- or eighteen-year-old girl wracked with insecurity, Yu Xiaohui couldn’t help finding it funny, and at the sa ti, she felt a wave of sympathy.
