Chen Feng had just arrived at the parking lot and gotten into his car. Before he could start the engine, he received a call from Fang Xiaoyue.
Chen Feng answered the call directly.
"Chen Feng, Qi Fulin is not my boyfriend yet. We've only known each other for just over a month. What do you think of him?"
As soon as the call connected, Fang Xiaoyue threw that sentence at him and asked for Chen Feng's opinion on Qi Fulin.
Chen Feng was montarily stunned and couldn't co up with an answer imdiately.
He hadn't thought too much about Fang Xiaoyue being with Qi Fulin. Even the fact that she was going to a hotel with him didn't strike him as sothing improper or bad.
They're both adults; Fang Xiaoyue is already thirty and still single, and presumably, Qi Fulin is too, so there's nothing morally corrupt about it.
But why should what's going on between her and Qi Fulin concern Chen Feng?
Even though Fang Xiaoyue was his old classmate, and they still occasionally kept in touch, it wasn't as if they had a particularly close relationship.
Thus, it wasn't really his place to offer an opinion on this matter.
Moreover, Chen Feng's own personal life was currently a ss, so he certainly wasn't in a position to comnt on Fang Xiaoyue's love life.
But since she was asking now, Chen Feng couldn't just not respond. He turned the question back to her: "I think he's over forty, right? He must have been married before. Does he have kids?"
"He's forty-four, divorced for about five or six years, and has an eighteen-year-old son who's been living with his ex-wife. The son is going off to college this fall."
Chen Feng thought for a mont and honestly said, "He's fourteen years older than you, which is a bit much. But he has the advantage of being the deputy principal at Third Middle School, and if he gets promoted or secures a better position, his prospects are still quite good. Of course, in my opinion, it mainly depends on whether you truly like him in your heart.
After all, you have very good personal conditions. With a stable job in the system, a secure future, and good social status, you have nothing to worry about in your later years. If you really want to find soone of your age with money, it's completely possible. That's sothing for you to decide."
Fang Xiaoyue sighed, "Although my job is decent and the benefits are okay, I'm thirty already. I'm not ugly, but I can't be considered very pretty, either. The ones I like might not like , but those I don't care for all want to pursue . It's not easy being in this high-not-low dilemma; it's making very anxious."
Chen Feng comforted her, "Many won in your line of work marry late and have children late, so thirty isn't considered old. If you look seriously, you can still find soone you like."
"The problem is I can't find anyone. Even Qi Fulin is soone I picked out as a makeshift choice from a bunch of short guys, planning to just get by and see how things go. But his behavior just now left with a poor impression. Even though I'm not yet his girlfriend, he introduced himself to you as my boyfriend, which I found very off-putting. Plus, he deliberately acted pretentious in front of you, which made even more disappointed, thinking he has a very narrow view of things."
Chen Feng couldn't help but laugh at her words, "So did I just wreck your relationship with a stick?"
"What relationship? It's nothing like that with him and ." Fang Xiaoyue imdiately denied it, then asked, "Where are you now? I just ca out of the hotel; let treat you to a late-night snack."
Chen Feng was actually up for so food since he hadn't had dinner before coming to et Guo ngyao, followed by several hours of intense physical activity, which burned a lot of energy.
Therefore, after a brief hesitation, Chen Feng agreed. After all, they were old classmates, and since they happened to run into each other tonight, it was perfectly normal to go for a late-night snack together.
They quickly decided to et at a shengjian (pan-fried bun) place in the western part of the old county town.
According to Fang Xiaoyue, this shengjian place had been open for over a decade, was near her ho, and was incredibly delicious. Eating it with beef soup was a heavenly combination.
Interestingly, the owner of this shengjian place was quite diligent. Though it wasn't open twenty-four hours, the place was often still open in the early morning hours, catering to the late-night snack crowd, making it a go-to for many late-night food enthusiasts.
Chen Feng had hardly ever been to the western part of the old county town before. In his mory, he'd co by bike only two or three tis with classmates since this area was on the edge of town and was mostly farmland back when Chen Feng was studying. There were lots of transient populations and not many famous or fun places, so Chen Feng had never really co here.
Moreover, the First Middle School where he studied was located in the east part of the town, making it sowhat distant from the west side.
Now driving to the town's western side, Chen Feng saw that the vast farmland was gone, replaced by newly built residential areas and ongoing construction sites.
Following the GPS, Chen Feng arrived at the shengjian place and, sure enough, saw from a distance that business was doing well, with custors still coming in and out even at ten in the evening.
After parking the car on the roadside and getting out, he heard two honks from a car not far behind him. Turning around, he saw Fang Xiaoyue waving at him from the driver's window.
Soon, Fang Xiaoyue parked her car and walked over, eyeing Chen Feng's Cayenne in surprise and smiling as she asked, "Did you get a new car?"
Chen Feng nodded.
"How much did it cost?" Fang Xiaoyue asked directly.
"Over one hundred and twenty thousand."
Upon hearing this, Fang Xiaoyue imdiately appeared envious and said, "Wow, you're such a wealthy guy. I originally thought I'd be treating for this late-night al, but now you definitely have to treat . Otherwise, my heart can't balance it out. Just think, with my current total annual inco of around a hundred thousand, not eating or drinking for twelve years wouldn't be enough to buy this car of yours."
"Alright, I'll treat then."
Chen Feng, his stomach growling with hunger, didn't argue with her and just waved her over as he headed into the shengjian place.
Walking into the shengjian place, Chen Feng looked at the nu on the wall and ordered himself a plate each of fresh at shengjian and shrimp shengjian — not much, just four of each — and a bowl of beef soup.
When Fang Xiaoyue ca in, she just ordered a plate of shengjian and so beef soup.
They were lucky; a table had just been cleared, and the two sat down.
Soon, the server brought their order over.
Picking up his chopsticks, Chen Feng imdiately started eating. He lifted a hot shengjian bun and gently bit it to avoid getting splattered by the juice.
The essence of the shengjian buns lay in the at juices inside. After tasting one, Chen Feng found it indeed delicious. He quickly finished one, complenting it with a spoonful of beef soup. It was truly very tasty.
"So, how was it? Didn't I recomnd a great place?"
Seeing Chen Feng's satisfied expression, Fang Xiaoyue asked excitedly.
Chen Feng nodded and continued eating. Very soon, the eight shengjian buns were gone, and he was about a third full.
Wary of gaining weight, Chen Feng restrained himself and didn't eat too much.
Fang Xiaoyue had also nearly finished her al, so Chen Feng got up, intending to go pay the bill.
"No, let handle it. After all, this is my turf, so how can I let you pay?"
Fang Xiaoyue hurriedly stopped him and rushed to the counter to scan and pay.
Seeing this, Chen Feng didn't insist, as it hadn't cost much, and arguing over it was pointless.
Being quite frugal, Fang Xiaoyue didn't leave imdiately after paying but finished everything on her plate before taking Chen Feng with her out the door.
"Why don't you co over to my place for a bit?" As they reached the door, Fang Xiaoyue suddenly suggested.
Chen Feng quickly shook his head, "It's late; I won't bother you. I need to get back early too."
