Chen Feng naturally refused Zhang Ziliang's invitation.
Zhang Ziliang didn't insist, exchanged a few polite words, and then hung up the phone.
"It seems your boss is quite aloof," Zhang Ziliang remarked with so emotion, putting down his phone and handing it back to Zhang Jingwen.
Seeing Chen Feng reject her brother's invitation with just one sentence, Zhang Jingwen felt understandably uncomfortable, but she was more frustrated now.
Previously, Chen Feng had given her an ultimatum for noon today, and it was already past ten. If she couldn't settle things with Chen Feng by then, she might face his retaliation.
Now that she knew about Chen Feng's background, she was genuinely a bit afraid of him. After all, even her always strong-headed brother seed wary of him and even wanted to curry favor with him.
"Can't you get in touch with Tao Yaoyang and arrange to et him together?" Zhang Jingwen suggested.
Zhang Ziliang replied helplessly, "I'm not familiar with Tao Yaoyang at all. How can I contact him? Not to ntion getting him to invite Chen Feng out for a al. I don't have that kind of influence."
Zhang Jingwen angrily retorted, "Aren't you always bragging? You have that big group constantly supporting you, shouting 'Brother Jing.'
Zhang Ziliang smiled bitterly, "It's all relative. Compared to ordinary people, our family is indeed hard to reach. But there are so people who are just as unreachable to us. You're still too young; there are things and people you haven't co into contact with yet."
Zhang Jingwen impatiently urged, "Then find out who can help you get Chen Feng out."
"Where am I supposed to look for connections on such short notice? Besides, inviting soone to dinner isn't such an urgent matter. He already refused my invitation earlier; if I keep pestering him, it might irritate him. Better to wait a few days."
"You're driving crazy," Zhang Jingwen said, exasperated. "I need you to arrange to et him now. If you can't find soone, go deal with Tao Yaoyang first, then get Chen Feng out."
"Is it really that urgent? And why do you resist him so much?" Zhang Ziliang asked, puzzled. "Why not just let him pursue you? If you really don't like him, find a chance to tactfully refuse. Why drag into it to tell him? I can't bring myself to say, 'Don't pursue my sister anymore.'"
"You're useless!" Zhang Jingwen huffed angrily, "Whenever I need your help, you let down."
Zhang Ziliang sighed, "My dear sister, does he really upset you that much? If so, why did you sign with his company? I'm at a loss."
"I don't care to speak with you!"
Zhang Jingwen stord off in frustration. Knowing her brother wouldn't help solve the problem left her disappointed.
Zhang Ziliang watched her run up the stairs with a confused expression, feeling slightly bewildered, while also wryly noticing how bad her temper had beco.
Back in her room, Zhang Jingwen paced back and forth, eyebrows furrowed, before finally stopping.
She opened her phone's WeChat, found Chen Feng's number, and opened the chat box. After a long pause, she typed slowly, hesitated for a mont, and then sent the ssage.
[Boss, a relative just ca to visit, it's really inconvenient. How about I contact you after they leave?]
She also added an apologetic emoji.
As the ssage was sent, Zhang Jingwen felt a bit nervous, staring intently at her phone screen.
About a minute later, she saw the notification above the chat box: "The other party is typing."
Soon, Chen Feng's reply ca through.
[I don't mind.]
Seeing these four words, Zhang Jingwen first felt a bit relieved, then was puzzled. Did he not mind her not eting today, or did he not mind her relative visiting?
So, Zhang Jingwen sent a [?]
Chen Feng quickly replied: [Regardless, by noon today, you must be waiting for at East Lake Garden. We should keep our promises. I trust you so much, but if you're untrustworthy, I won't mind the company shelving you.]
Reading this, Zhang Jingwen felt Chen Feng's blatant threat, making her grind her teeth.
What a shaless bastard!
Zhang Jingwen wanted to call Chen Feng imdiately and scold him rcilessly, but she knew she couldn't do that, nor did she dare.
She was, after all, an adult. Previously she could flaunt her family's good standing before others, but Chen Feng's background was more formidable, leaving her without any foundation to be arrogant.
Frustrated, Zhang Jingwen felt powerless against Chen Feng but hated the idea of going to serve him.
Ti passed minute by minute, and she felt trapped like a caged beast, pacing in her room, desperately thinking.
This matter was difficult to discuss with her family, including her mother, knowing it wouldn't help and could worsen relations with Chen Feng.
As for girlfriends, she never had any true friends growing up, just those who tried to curry favor with her, recognizing she wasn't the type to have real friends.
Therefore, she didn't really have any girlfriends to discuss such matters.
The only one she could consult was Wang Yuee, her agent, but Wang Yuee had urged her to fulfill the agreent yesterday, so discussing it seed futile.
Ti quickly moved to eleven, leaving just an hour until Chen Feng's deadline, and it would take about half an hour to drive to East Lake Garden. If unlucky with traffic, maybe even longer.
No choice, she had to head out, figuring a way during the commute.
Angering Chen Feng wouldn't benefit her. Besides, she desperately hoped Fengmang Film and Television would offer her good scripts and roles.
So, Zhang Jingwen quickly tidied up, grabbed her bag, and drove to East Lake Garden.
Distracted, she drove while pondering how to navigate this crisis.
She nearly rear-ended another car at an intersection but stopped in ti.
At that mont, bumped against the steering wheel, an idea struck her mind, her eyes lighting up.
Just then, at a red light, she quickly snapped a photo out the car window, sending it to Chen Feng along with a voice ssage: [I'm heading over now; it's a bit far from my place to East Lake Garden, taking at least thirty minutes. I should be on ti, trying my best to get there.]
