After saying goodbye to Xu Xia, Luo Xiaoqian hurriedly got off the bus. Her place was not far from here, and Xu Xia thought she was heading ho, paying no further attention except to remind her to be careful on the road and not to be late for tomorrow.
Once off the bus, Luo Xiaoqian pulled up the hood of her hoodie and swiftly crossed the street, making her way back to the apartnt complex she rented in.
Upon reaching the second floor, she found her apartnt door ajar. Puzzled, she pushed the door open only to see the landlord’s aunt pacing impatiently in the living room. On seeing her, the aunt approached imdiately, "Young lady, you’re finally back, I’ve been waiting for you for hours!"
"Sorry, I was a bit busy today. Auntie, do you have sothing urgent?" Luo Xiaoqian asked with a smile.
"Xiao Qian, it’s like this, my daughter will be coming back from the United States this sumr vacation, so I need the house back!" The landlord took out a stack of money from her bag. "This is the rent you overpaid. Start looking for another place and move out in a couple of days."
"But..." Luo Xiaoqian looked helpless, "Auntie, can you give a couple of days? Besides, haven’t we agreed? I paid three months of rent, and it’s been less than a month since I moved in!"
The landlord’s aunt’s face turned sour, "Look here, young lady, I’m refunding your money, aren’t I? My daughter will return later this year, and this place needs to be renovated. After that, it needs to be properly aired out to get rid of the formaldehyde, for at least a few months. You’re not expecting my daughter to co back and breathe in toxic fus..."
Just because her daughter is a person, am I not?
Fury rose in Luo Xiaoqian’s heart, though she maintained a smile on her face, "I understand, you’re considering your daughter, but what about ? Where am I supposed to find a place right away?"
"I don’t want to argue with you, to cut a long story short, you need to move out within three days!" The landlord’s aunt didn’t give Luo Xiaoqian any chance to speak further and had already turned and walked out the door.
Three days, in a city as big as Beijing, finding a place to rent is not that easy, not to ntion that she had a competition to attend.
"Auntie!" Luo Xiaoqian ran out after her, but the landlord was already downstairs, and as the sound of her steps faded away, Luo Xiaoqian stamped her foot in frustration, "So what if you have an old place, I’ll tell you, tomorrow I’m moving to World City!"
Of course, that was just spoken in anger.
Even though Leng Zimo had already invited her to stay at World City, she still hoped to have a place in Beijing, a real nest of her own, no matter how small it might be, just big enough for a bed.
At the very least, it would truly be hers, a place where she could sleep peacefully and securely.
"Luo Xiaoqian, that’s quite impressive, moving to World City now!"
In the hallway, Lu Hao’s voice resounded, indifferent yet mocking.
Luo Xiaoqian looked up to see Lu Hao staggering down the stairs with a can of beer in hand. His shirt was unbuttoned, his hair ssed, and he reeked of alcohol as if he had drunk quite a lot.
Seeing his haggard and dejected appearance, Luo Xiaoqian frowned, turned back inside, and was about to slam the door shut when Lu Hao’s foot got in the way.
Despite her efforts to close the door, she was no match for him. He pushed it open, and she stumbled back several steps, nearly falling over.
"What do you want?" she asked, straightening up with the support of the wall, frowning at him in anger.
"What do I want?" Lu Hao threw the beer can at her feet with a clatter, "That’s my line, isn’t it? Luo Xiaoqian, I never realized how ruthless you could be. No wonder they say there’s nothing more venomous than a woman’s heart, goddamn it, they were right..."
