Unable to refuse her, the old man could only take her to the hospital.
Xinger bit her lip, holding the newly folded Thousand Paper Crane as she walked in. Seeing the crane that Luo Jun had left behind, leaning crookedly against the pillow, she stepped over and picked it up.
"Grandpa, Mo Mo hasn’t left, look, his paper crane is still here?"
The old man glanced at her thin profile, a look of pity flashing in his eyes, "Maybe, he... might have gone for a check-up."
"Can we wait for him for a while?" Xinger turned her face, asking earnestly.
"I’m sorry, Xinger." The old man shook his head gently, "Grandpa promised soone to return quickly, I’m afraid we can’t wait any longer."
The old man knew that Luo Jun had already left; the paper crane was just discarded here by him.
He was just reluctant to let the child down, so he told this lie.
"Then... can I leave the paper crane for Mo Mo?"
"Of course."
Xinger turned her face, carefully straightened the wings of the paper crane in her hand, and placed the newly folded crane alongside the old one before reluctantly returning to the old man’s side.
"Let’s go."
Holding her small hand, the old man glanced at the cranes placed together on the pillow, then turned and walked toward the door.
Xinger glanced back at those two cranes and finally followed the old man out.
Shortly after they left, the cleaner who ca for the early shift walked in to clean the ward. She noticed the paper cranes on the pillow and casually picked them up, intending to throw them away.
"Don’t touch them, those are my paper cranes!"
Behind her ca a child’s voice, tender yet commanding.
The cleaner turned around in confusion, only to see a little boy in a hospital gown rushing in.
Looking at the two paper cranes standing side by side on the pillow, Luo Jun glanced at them with confusion, "Huh, why is there an extra one?!"
Xu Xia followed him inside and looked at the new blue crane on the pillow, "I guess it must be Xinger who ca to see you and left it."
Xinger?!
Luo Jun grabbed the paper crane and rushed to the corridor, looking around.
In the corridor, with patients and their families coming and going, there was no sign of Xinger.
He turned and went to the exit, where similarly people passed by, but none was the familiar face he knew.
Looking down at the crane in his hand, Luo Jun showed obvious dejection, "She must be mad at for leaving the crane behind."
"Not at all, if she were really mad, she wouldn’t have left this new crane for you." Xu Xia supported his shoulder, "I bet she left in a hurry, knowing you would co for the crane, so she left this crane behind."
Luo Jun lifted his face, "Really?"
"Of course it’s true, Xinger is so smart, she won’t be mad at you." Xu Xia bent down to pick him up from the ground, "It’s getting late, we need to go back for injections."
Tightly gripping the two paper cranes in his hand, the image of Xinger’s eyes flashed before Luo Jun’s mind again.
"Xinger said that every crane can grant a wish, can I use this blue crane to wish to see her again?"
"Of course." Xu Xia carried him down the steps towards Leng Lin, "Next ti if you see her again, tell her you want to be good friends with her, okay?"
"Yes!" Luo Jun nodded solemnly.
