"Bastard!" Leng Lin cursed softly in the direction from which Leng Zirui had sent the ssage, then turned around and approached the tombstone with a gentle expression, "Shiyin, it seems my temper really can’t change!"
He bent down and carefully gathered up the few blades of broken grass, tossing them into the soil beneath the dwarf pine, before walking up to the tombstone, squatting down, and gently stroking the stone with his rough, calloused fingers, fingers that had handled guns for so many years.
"Did you see just now, could it really have been that girl who ca?"
"Zirui’s analysis seems quite reasonable. Maybe, maybe this ti he’s truly been moved by mortal emotions."
"Once I see them all settled down with families of their own, then I can go down to join you with peace of mind. Leaving you alone all these years, it’s my fault."
...
He paused after each sentence he spoke.
It wasn’t like he was talking to himself, but rather communicating with his deceased wife.
This man, who had been a formidable presence, steeped in the military for years, carried not a trace of his forr dominance at this mont, just infinite tenderness.
...
...
By the ti the car reached Beidaihe River, it was already evening, and upon exiting the highway, Leng Zimo slowed down.
Seeing Luo Xiaoqian pressing close to the glass, looking out at the distant ocean, he considerately lowered the window.
The wind rushed into the car.
Luo Xiaoqian squinted slightly, taking a deep breath.
She slled it, the faint fishiness – it was the scent of the sea, the familiar scent of her hotown.
Resting her right elbow on the window, Luo Xiaoqian stretched her face slightly out of the car, greedily breathing in, although this wasn’t her hotown, the scent was very similar.
At sunset, the wind lifted her long hair, and the golden sunlight shone on her face, giving her even complexion a sowhat translucent glow like a halo of fine light.
Her eyes, her lips, her smooth forehead, her slightly upturned nose...not a single feature was anything short of beautiful!
Leng Zimo turned his head by chance and was montarily srized.
An oncoming car honked its horn as a reminder, and only then did he regain his senses. He tapped the brake slightly to control the speed before turning right into a side road and driving along the coast for a while. Leng Zimo then rolled up the window and turned into the gated community of villas.
As he approached the entrance, he stopped the car, where staff from the managent office were waiting with keys in hand, respectfully offering them to him.
Leng Zimo paused, sliding his side of the window down just a crack, took the keys, murmured a polite "Thank you," then promptly rolled up the window and drove into the community.
Inside the community, trees provided abundant shade, and one could vaguely glimpse the roofs of houses peeking out amid the greenery.
This was an upscale villa community, where privacy was highly valued. Each villa was spaced a considerable distance from its neighbors and ca with its own private beach.
Using the remote control to unlock the car, Leng Zimo drove straight into the garage.
Luo Xiaoqian imdiately opened the door and hopped out of the car.
"That door over there leads to the beach!"
Following her out, Leng Zimo raised his hand to point to a French door draped with Sha Man.
"Thank you!"
Luo Xiaoqian rushed over and pushed open the door, indeed greeted by the sea breeze.
"The sea, I’m back!"
With a cheer, Luo Xiaoqian imdiately ran towards the waves.
Leng Zimo walked over and stood by the door, watching her spread her arms and run forward, busy reminding her.
"The water’s cold, don’t go in!"
