After nearly four hours on a plane and rushing back from the airport to World City, Leng Zimo arrived at the apartnt door. It was nearly five in the morning.
He quietly opened the apartnt door and, seeing the light seeping through the crack, felt a warmth envelope his weary body and soul.
When his mother had been alive, no matter how late he ca ho, she would always leave a light on for him.
Now, at last, soone else was keeping the light on for him.
But what awaited him was a surprise beyond his expectations, not just a light but also a person.
No sooner had he dragged his suitcase inside and before he could close the door, a voice filled with surprise ca his way.
"Zimo, you’re back!"
Luo Xiaoqian jumped up from the couch with a startled joy and in a few steps, reached him.
Staring at the familiar little face before him, Leng Zimo first felt joy, then frowned.
"Didn’t I tell you to go to sleep?"
Luo Xiaoqian flashed a sheepish smile, "I couldn’t sleep, okay?"
After being so busy for a long stretch and sitting in a plane for hours, how could one not sleep?!
"Fine!" Luo Xiaoqian hung her head down low, "I drank a cup of your coffee."
She couldn’t bear to sleep before him, who had co from so far. To prevent herself from dozing off while waiting for him on the couch, she had brewed a pot of black coffee.
Gazing at Luo Xiaoqian, looking like a little schoolgirl who had done sothing wrong, clad in her house clothes and with her head hung down, Leng Zimo found it impossible to utter a word of reprimand.
Letting go of his luggage, he took a step forward and pulled her into his embrace, holding her tightly.
Although this embrace ca at a ti and place different from what he had imagined, her scent was as fresh as he rembered, and her body as gentle and soft.
Her face pressed against his chest, Luo Xiaoqian slowly raised her arms and gently wrapped them around his waist.
"Tighter."
He ordered softly, his voice above her head.
She tightened her arms, summoning all her strength.
A man and a woman, silently embracing, neither uttering another word.
In the soft light of the entrance hall, they looked like a beautiful sculpture, their shadows rging into one.
Until.
Gurgle!
The traitorous stomach of Ms. Luo broke the peaceful bliss.
"Is there any dumplings left?" Leng Zimo released her, struggling to suppress his laughter, "I’m hungry."
"I’ll go cook them!"
Luo Xiaoqian’s neck flushed with embarrassnt.
Watching her turn towards the kitchen, Leng Zimo naturally followed.
Luo Xiaoqian took out the dumplings from the freezer, wrapped in a ziplock bag, and as soon as she opened it, she was flabbergasted.
Because of her lack of experience, she had placed the dumplings directly into the bag in the freezer. Now, they had all frozen into a lump.
"Why don’t you go take a shower?"
Embarrassed to let him see her "masterpiece", she suggested in a low voice.
Leng Zimo leaned against the fridge, "I want to see you."
It had been days since he saw her, and now that he finally had the chance, he wanted to watch her for a bit longer, even if just to see her cook.
Unable to trick him into leaving, she had no choice but to light the stove and set a pot, and as soon as the water boiled, dumped all the dumplings in, frantically stirring with a spoon.
"Not like that," Leng Zimo walked over quickly, his hand capturing hers that held the spoon’s handle, "like this, gently stir in one direction so they won’t break."
Hands clasped together, inhaling the scent of her hair, he naturally leaned down and lightly kissed her ear.
"Did you miss ?"
