She set down the cup in a fluster and stood up, ready to clean up.
"Don’t move, I’ll do it!"
Leng Zimo had already stood up, taken a quick step to her side, and snatched up the napkin, carefully dabbing at the spilled wine on the table. He then collected the napkin that had gotten splashed with wine from her, and spread his own napkin ticulously over her legs.
"How could you be so careless?" he scolded her, then he raised his face to glance at Jiao Yang, who had stood up and then sat back down, "President Jiao, my apologies!"
His voice was gentle, his attitude indulgent, and his actions doting.
He apologized to Jiao Yang proactively, not truly remorseful toward Jiao Yang, but to make it clear to the other party that even her impropriety was his fault, and he would take responsibility for all her actions and words.
Because this woman was his!
No one was allowed to covet her.
Jiao Yang was a shrewd man and naturally understood his implications, yet his gaze fell on Luo Xiaoqian, who seed sowhat anxious and fearful, and he just slightly raised his eyebrows.
The Luo Xiaoqian before him was clearly uneasy, a state Jiao Yang rather disliked in Luo Xiaoqian.
This girl should be, as he had first seen her, dazzling, flamboyant, doing as she pleased, and not in her current state.
Leng Zimo sat back down in his own chair, refused the waiter’s offer to replace his napkin, and spread the wine-stained napkin from Luo Xiaoqian over his own knees. Then, he took the initiative to raise his cup.
"This cup, I drink on Xiaoqian’s behalf, thanking you for your barley," he said.
Jiao Yang fiddled with his own cup, "Why do you speak for her, you two...?"
Leng Zimo spoke assertively, "Because she is my person!"
Luo Xiaoqian’s face was covered in black lines as she hurried to explain, "President Leng is my direct superior. I’m an artist at Emperor View, so I belong to the company, which ans I am effectively his person!"
"Oh!" Jiao Yang nodded lightly, "I see."
"That’s right, exactly!" Luo Xiaoqian chuckled awkwardly.
Leng Zimo raised his eyebrows but said nothing more.
He was very clear that now was not the ti to unravel the nature of their relationship.
Jiao Yang lifted his cup slightly toward Leng Zimo in a toast.
Both n retracted their cups after the toast, and as Leng Zimo drank, Jiao Yang lifted his face from his cup, "So, Xiaoqian, do you have a boyfriend?"
"Certainly not." Luo Xiaoqian answered imdiately.
Jiao Yang’s lips curved upward, and he took a sip of wine.
Seeing he didn’t dwell on the question, Luo Xiaoqian finally picked up her own cup and took a small sip.
"Since that’s the case, then I shall make an announcent!" Jiao Yang set down his cup, "From today onward, I’m going to pursue you!"
Pfft!
The wine Luo Xiaoqian had just sipped sprayed out of her mouth.
Leng Zimo passed her a tissue with his hand while his piercing gaze fell on Jiao Yang’s face across the table, "President Jiao, that joke isn’t funny at all."
"Did I say it was a joke?" Jiao Yang shrugged, "I’m quite serious!"
"I refuse!" Leng Zimo declared.
Jiao Yang laughed lightly, "President Leng, you’ve got quite the sense of humor. It’s Xiaoqian I want to pursue, not you!"
"I know." Leng Zimo didn’t smile, "She is one of my artists. The contract stipulates that she’s not allowed to date until it expires."
"Emperor View’s contracts are quite harsh. I personally think that’s the artist’s freedom." Jiao Yang smiled, looking at Luo Xiaoqian, "Xiaoqian, why not transfer to Asia View instead? I promise to give you ample freedom, whether you want to date, get married, or even have children, or whatever, there will be absolutely no issues."
