The knocking sound rang out.
Luo Xiaoqian hurried over, opened the courtyard door, and upon seeing Leng Zimo standing outside, she imdiately broke into a smile.
"You’re back."
"Yes." Leng Zimo, carrying a suitcase, stepped in. "Where should I put this?"
Luo Xiaoqian closed the courtyard door and pointed toward the small stone table in the yard, "Just put it on the table, I’ll take care of it."
The two walked to the small stone table together, and Leng Zimo placed the suitcase he was carrying on it, took a cloth, and wiped off the dust, while Luo Xiaoqian pinched the clasp on the suitcase.
"By the way, Zimo, just now, your dad called ."
"He did?" Leng Zimo frowned slightly. "What did he say this ti?"
"The day after tomorrow is the Ghost Festival. He said he wants us to go to the cetery together to pay our respects." Luo Xiaoqian answered honestly.
Leng Zimo was entirely surprised to hear this.
The Ghost Festival, also known as "Ghost Day," is the day he would visit his mother’s grave to pay respects every year. Just earlier in the car, Ailin had called to remind him that the day after tomorrow was the Ghost Festival.
It was completely out of character for the old man to take the initiative and invite him and Xiao Qian to go back and pay respects together.
Since his mother had passed away, whether it was Qingming or her death anniversary, or similar festivals like the Ghost Festival, no matter how busy the old man was, he would go to pay his respects.
Could it be that he had co to accept Xiao Qian?!
But, was this change of heart not too sudden?!
"Did you agree?"
"I didn’t get to speak before he hung up the phone." Luo Xiaoqian said sowhat helplessly.
Leng Zimo chuckled. The style of the old man’s actions was very similar to his own; he could imagine the scene at the ti.
"Zimo." Luo Xiaoqian stood up from the chair, "Otherwise, let’s visit the cetery today, and we can go back to Beijing tomorrow?"
Leng Zimo stood up, "Sure, but I don’t want to see him, especially not in front of my mother’s grave."
"Why?" Luo Xiaoqian asked, puzzled.
Even if there had been so unpleasantness between him and his father before, surely it shouldn’t involve Mother Leng, should it?
Leng Zimo raised his hand and patted her shoulder, "Let’s go, we’ll visit your mother first."
Seeing he didn’t want to elaborate, Luo Xiaoqian did not press further and, after a quick tidy up, they both took a car to the cetery where Luo Xiaoqian’s mother was buried.
Retrieving the bouquet from the trunk, Leng Zimo personally placed the flowers in front of the tombstone.
Luo Xiaoqian carefully cleared the weeds around and set out so of her mother’s favorite foods in front of the grave.
"Mom, today I brought soone to see you with . His na is Zimo, and he’s been very good to . Now that he’s taking care of , you don’t need to worry about over there. If you’ve found Dad, rember to let him know I’m doing very well..."
As she spoke, tears began to well up in her eyes.
Even though her mother was gone, at least her grave was there, she could co and talk to her, tell her what’s in her heart.
But her father, after that one ti, never ca back, and she didn’t even know where his spirit might be. Just thinking about it made it hard for her not to feel sad.
Stepping forward and bending down to support her shoulders, Leng Zimo gently helped her stand up.
"Don’t be sad anymore. I believe your father must be with your mother."
Luo Xiaoqian stood up and nodded at him with a smile, "It’s getting late, shall we go back?"
"I’d like to say a few words to your aunt." Leng Zimo took a step forward, bowed three tis to the tombstone, "Hello Auntie, my na is Leng Zimo. From now on, I will take good care of her. Rest assured."
