"Here we go again, playing the victim to gain sympathy, huh?" Xu Pei wiped the blood from her face, "Thank goodness I’m tough; if I had fallen down the stairs, I might really be dead. Then, you could act for the rest of your life. Luo Xiaoqian, oh Luo Xiaoqian, you must feel so disappointed I didn’t die, right?!"
"Enough!"
A resounding voice, filled with cold anger.
Rushing back from the city center, Leng Zimo strode upstairs. He glanced at Xu Pei before his gaze settled on Luo Xiaoqian.
"Are you hurt?!"
Luo Xiaoqian shook her head gently.
Xu Pei’s heart stung violently.
She was in such a state from the fall, yet his eyes were only for Luo Xiaoqian. Was this man so heartless?!
"Leng Zimo, are you even human? I’m hurt because she pushed , yet you don’t even ask. Are you really so cold-blooded..."
"Don’t be afraid, I’m here." Leng Zimo turned around and shielded Luo Xiaoqian behind him, his gaze on Xu Pei devoid of any ripple, "Because I know she couldn’t possibly do such a thing. And for soone like you, I don’t need even a shred of sympathy. You don’t have to waste your energy. Even if you really died on the floor, it would be nothing but your own fault, you deserved it!"
"Zimo!" Huangfu Ao frowned, "Hold back a little."
Not knowing the true situation, they naturally found his words harsh.
"He’s already obsessed, you won’t be able to persuade him..." Xu Pei wiped her eyes, "Maybe I really should be dead. If I died, you all could rest easy."
"Sister Xu Pei, you don’t have to be upset." Leng Zirui slowly ascended from the staircase, "In these matters, we rely on evidence. As long as you have evidence, you can prove it was Luo Xiaoqian who pushed you, right?"
Xu Pei extended her bloodied hand, "Isn’t this enough?"
"Of course not!" Leng Zirui smiled lightly, "Look, there are only two possibilities when soone falls down stairs. First, they fall accidentally; second, they are pushed. Now, you can only prove you’re injured. Whether it was an accident or Luo Xiaoqian pushed you, further evidence is needed."
Xu Pei scoffed, "It seems I was wrong about you too. I thought you were still clear-headed. Now it seems you’re chard by her as well."
"Sister Xu Pei, don’t get wrong, I’m actually trying to help you." Leng Zirui gestured lazily towards a corner of the stairs, "Isn’t there a surveillance cara there? If we check the surveillance footage, won’t the truth co out?!"
Surveillance?!
Xu Pei followed his gaze but only saw a beautifully carved wooden ceiling, not a cara.
"You can’t see it; it’s installed in the false ceiling." Leng Zirui chuckled softly, "Qin Lan really didn’t skimp on expenses, installing such advanced hidden caras. Brother Yizhou, you treat Sister Xu Pei’s wounds first, and I’ll go to the monitoring room to get the footage. We can all watch it together and the truth will be clear for all to see."
With that, he turned to go upstairs.
"Stop!" Xu Pei cried out urgently, "No need to trouble yourself. Even if the footage is found, she’ll just find various reasons, and Leng Zimo won’t believe . I might as well leave; I don’t want to be an eyesore!"
She had never expected that such an old castle would have surveillance equipnt. She thought no one would know the truth, which is why she frad Luo Xiaoqian. Now hearing Leng Zirui was going to check the footage, she didn’t want to stay a mont longer.
