"Who are you calling that I can’t listen to?" Tong Ya smiled. "Okay, I’ll go buy you so fruit to eat."
Watching her walk away, Xu Pei closed the door of the hospital room before dialing Tang Ming’s number.
Previously, there had been so unpleasantness between Tang Ming and Leng Zihei, so the two had already cut off contact, with only Xu Pei maintaining communication with Tang Ming. Xu Pei didn’t want Tong Ya to know that she was still in touch with Tang Ming.
"Hello, Tang Ming, it’s , Xu Pei..."
When he heard her voice, Tang Ming beca instantly excited, "Where are you? What happened? I emailed you and you didn’t reply, I’ve been calling you and couldn’t get through, I’ve been so worried!"
"I had an accident, I’m in the hospital," Xu Pei whispered.
"Which hospital, I’ll co right over."
Xu Pei didn’t dare let him see her in her current state, so she hurriedly said, "No, don’t co here, I... I’m not in a position to see anyone right now."
"You’re lying to , did sothing happen?" Tang Ming pressed.
"Don’t ask, just know that I’m fine, don’t worry!" said Xu Pei twice before hanging up the phone in a rush.
Tang Ming was not reassured and called back imdiately. Xu Pei saw the familiar number and directly hit the reject button, but Tang Ming’s calls ca one after another.
Listening to the persistent ringtone, Xu Pei eventually pressed the call button.
"Xiao Pei, what exactly happened? I can’t be at ease with you like this, listen, tell quickly, what happened?"
"Tang Ming..." Xu Pei just called his na before she started crying uncontrollably, "I... I’m so scared, I don’t know what to do..."
"Xiao Pei, don’t cry, just tell , which hospital you’re in, I’ll co right over, I an what I say."
Xu Pei gave him the na of the hospital and her room number.
"All right, that’s it." On the other end, Tang Ming hung up the phone promptly.
Looking at the darkened phone screen, Xu Pei subconsciously raised her hand to wipe away the tears on her face, but as her fingers touched the newly ford scab on her wound, they imdiately began to burn with pain.
Looking at the phone in her hand, she hesitated for a mont, then turned the phone back on, entered the cara function, and aid the lens at herself.
A white sterile cap covered her face, revealing only a pair of eyes and lips.
Her eyes were unhard, but her eyelashes were already gone. Around the edges of the cap, the charred skin was clearly visible, as were her once-favorite lips, now misshapen from burning, one corner of her mouth pulled up in an involuntary sneer, giving the appearance of a crooked mouth.
She didn’t dare look anymore and quickly exited the cara, her suspicions growing more intense.
Putting the phone down, she carefully removed the gauze covering her face, trembling fingers readjusting the phone to cara mode, slowly aiming the lens at herself again.
Muttering softly, both her hands and heart were trembling.
"My face is fine, my face is fine..."
On the screen, the image shifted, finally revealing a face.
The flesh was charred black throughout, in so places still exposing fresh, raw red flesh. Her once straight nose was now an indistinct patch of black scab, and her once delicate skin was nowhere to be seen...
What appeared before her was simply a hideous monster.
"No!"
Looking at her own face in the cara, Xu Pei scread in agony.
