Chapter 155. What! You Risk Your Lives Doing Missions? Sorry, I’ll Just Kill Them Instantly

East China First Military District.

“Zhou Yu, the disc has already reached the Snakefolk Cave, but why hasn’t Jiang Feng triggered the Beast Tide yet?”

Inside the office, Zhou Mingyuan, the Zhou family’s Chief Clan Elder, frowned as he looked at the holographic map projected before him.

Zhou Yu, dressed in military uniform, also wore an ugly expression. “Then either Jiang Feng doesn’t want Jiang Yichen dead, or he’s realized we were planning to use him as the scapegoat.”

“That father and son really are both hopelessly unreliable.” Zhou Mingyuan was furious.

Jiang Dongnian had already ruined things badly enough for him, and now at the final mont, Jiang Dongnian’s precious son was doing the sa.

Like father, like son indeed!

“Chief Clan Elder, don’t worry. I already made preparations,” Zhou Yu said suddenly.

From the very first ti he had t Jiang Feng, he had seen the hesitation in Jiang Feng’s eyes when the topic of killing Jiang Yichen ca up.

So he had long since prepared a backup plan.

“I set up a self-destruct trigger on the activation disc. The mont the signal between the disc and the Demonic Beasts’ brain-computer control is cut off, the Demonic Beasts will enter a berserk state. The Beast Tide can still be triggered.”

Hearing that, Zhou Mingyuan’s pupils contracted slightly. “No. If the signal is cut, the brain-computer control will no longer be able to regulate the Demonic Beasts’ behavior.”

“If an S-Rank Beast Tide breaks out, it could very likely draw in the Demonic Beasts lurking along the border as well. At that point, it won’t be sothing as simple as an S-Rank Beast Tide anymore.”

Zhou Yu fell silent in thought. After a long pause, he said, “This is our only chance. You should know Jiang Yichen’s rate of growth better than anyone.”

“Three months ago, he was still a crippled martial artist in the Second Realm. Now he has already reached the Martial King Realm.”

“If we give him any more ti to grow, then sooner or later, we’ll be the ones he settles accounts with.”

Zhou Yu slowly clenched his fists. “Once the Beast Tide erupts, I’ll make deploynt arrangents in advance and report it to the higher-ups so they can send reinforcents. I’ll keep the losses to a minimum.”

Zhou Mingyuan’s eyes grew heavy, and he said earnestly, “Zhou Yu, let it go. A Beast Tide above S-Rank is beyond imagination. You know how many people would die.”

“Let Jiang Yichen off this ti. We can plan against him again in the future.”

But Zhou Yu shook his head. “Once Jiang Yichen becos a Martial God, how are we supposed to deal with him then?”

“I refuse to let the woman I’ve longed for end up marrying soone else. Since I have the chance now, I’ll seize it.”

“Besides, even if the higher-ups investigate later, all they’ll find is that Jiang Feng triggered the Beast Tide. They’ll never find any evidence pointing to us.”

A trace of extre coldness flashed in Zhou Yu’s eyes, so chilling that even Zhou Mingyuan felt a shiver run through him.

“Zhou Yu, have you really thought this through?”

Zhou Yu nodded firmly and raised his hand. A virtual screen appeared, displaying the words: “Activate self-destruct protocol?”

He was silent for a mont, then pressed activate.

Jiang Yichen, your ti to die has co.

...

Inside the Snakefolk Cave in the Great Rift Valley of the eastern border.

As Jiang Yichen made his way deeper into the cave, a look of puzzlent flashed through his eyes.

Jiang Feng’s act of discarding the disc had been captured in full by his powerful ntal Perception.

What is going on?

Why did Jiang Feng throw it away? Does he not want to kill anymore? Does he not want to beco the Jiang family’s heir anymore?

Jiang Yichen felt slightly dazed. He was beginning to wonder whether he had developed so kind of persecution delusion.

In his previous life, Jiang Feng had exhausted every ans possible to fight for the Jiang family’s inheritance. In this life, it was the sa.

For soone like him, how could he possibly give up such a perfect opportunity?

Jiang Yichen could not understand it!

I was even thinking that once you triggered the Beast Tide, I could take the chance to get rid of you, you annoying idiot of a domineering CEO.

And instead... this is what you give ?

Jiang Yichen clicked his tongue. Forget it. He would finish the wilderness mission first.

“Brother Yichen, there’s an underground altar up ahead. All the Snakefolk are gathered there. It looks like they’re worshipping sothing.”

At that mont, Su Linyu’s soft voice ca from ahead.

Jiang Yichen leaned forward slightly. Tang Long pointed ahead, and he followed the direction of his finger.

The space ahead suddenly opened up into an enormous cavern.

Densely packed Snakefolk were sprawled across the ground, all of their heads facing the center. With their sharp claws, they were slicing open their own flesh and letting blood drip onto the ground.

At the center, atop a platform three ters above the ground, stood a petrified statue. It had a human upper body and a serpent’s tail, a savage face, and hair made entirely of venomous snakes.

It looked no different from dusa in Greek mythology.

After what had happened with the Sleep God’s Divine Contract Holder, Jiang Yichen had begun to believe that gods truly existed in this world.

And perhaps the ruins scattered across different places were things left behind by those gods.

Hiss, hiss, hiss!

A series of low hisses rang out, making one’s head spin just from listening to them.

Tang Long shook his head and quickly backed up two steps, but accidentally kicked a pebble at his feet.

In an instant, all the hissing stopped. The prostrated Snakefolk lifted their heads and looked toward Tang Long’s direction.

Jiang Yichen’s mouth twitched. As expected, television dramas really did reflect reality. There was always that one useless teammate whose entire purpose was to drive the plot forward.

But when other people ran into sothing like this, they would imdiately flee.

He, however, was different.

Roar!

The mont the densely packed Snakefolk spotted Tang Long, they instantly let out shrill hisses.

Rustle, rustle, rustle...

The sound of snake tails scraping over the ground ca from ahead as the swarm advanced like a black tide.

There were even Sixth-Rank Snakefolk among them. Tang Long’s scalp went numb at the sight, and the urge to run imdiately rose in his heart.

But the mont he thought of Jiang Yichen, his panic vanished, and his hands stopped shaking.

“Brother Yichen, go for it!” he shouted in encouragent.

Jiang Yichen was speechless. He took a single step, and space instantly froze.

The oncoming horde of Snakefolk, like a flood of savage beasts, stopped stiffly in place halfway through their charge.

“Spatial Severance!”

Then he snapped his fingers. With a crisp crack, every single Snakefolk was instantly split into two, their severed bodies scattering all around the altar.

Tang Long’s eyes widened. Nearly a thousand Snakefolk had just been wiped out like that?

He gave Jiang Yichen a huge thumbs-up. “Aweso!”

Su Linyu looked at him with worshipful eyes. “Brother Yichen is amazing. Being able to beco Brother Yichen’s fiancée really is my blessing.”

Jiang Yichen burst out laughing. No one had ever beaten her when it ca to emotional support.

He lifted the spatial restraint, and the blood around the altar began to flow once more. His senses swept through the area.

Every Snakefolk in the cave was dead. Not a single one remained alive.

Mission complete. That really had been simple.

Jiang Yichen smiled. This kind of overwhelming, one-sided domination through raw strength truly felt satisfying.

The other squads were probably still struggling and racking their brains over how to complete their missions, while he simply made one move and killed everything instantly. Who needed a strategy for that?

Jiang Yichen glanced at the petrified statue atop the altar, but he did not sense any life fluctuations from it.

“We’ve killed them all. Chu Xingchen has probably finished clearing out the Snakefolk outside too. Let’s go.”

“Damn, we finished in less than ten minutes. This has to be a new record for a recruit wilderness mission.” Tang Long sighed in amazent. “Brother Yichen, next ti, let us handle low-level Demonic Beasts like these.”

Su Linyu nodded as well. “Brother Yichen should be the one to appear at the climax. We should be the vanguard.”

Jiang Yichen laughed. “Sure, next ti...”

But just as the words reached his lips, he abruptly stopped and imdiately turned to look at the petrified statue.

Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!

Suddenly, the ground began to shake as well, as though an earthquake were striking.

Jiang Yichen watched as the blood and life force of the dead Snakefolk on the ground continuously flowed toward the petrified statue. His brow furrowed, and he said slowly,

“It seems your chance has co.”

Tang Long and Su Linyu both turned to look at the petrified statue. Cracking sounds rang out as fine fractures began to spread across its surface...
