Wizards from the School of Prophecy are not adept at offense or defense, but they possess a vast array of detection and probing spells, making them perfectly suited for navigating mazes.
However, the participants in this trial were all Wizard Apprentices who had little to no experience with true prophecy spells.
Among the spells they knew, the only detection and probing spells applicable to the maze were a handful like Detect Secret Door, Detect Magic, and Detect Undead—which were of limited use.
Therefore, aside from a few Wizard Apprentices with trump cards up their sleeves, most had no choice but to explore the maze the old-fashioned way.
Fortunately, Pei Ze happened to be one of those few.
With a re thought, the black bracelet on his wrist instantly disintegrated. One Fog Crow after another flew out, splitting into two waves. They shot toward the paths on the left and right, smashing into the stone doors like cannonballs.
Two thunderous booms echoed almost simultaneously as the stone doors burst open. The Fog Crows surged inside, one jostling past the other.
Before long, the sounds of fierce battle erupted from both rooms.
Through his connection with Wuyu, Pei Ze quickly learned of the situation inside the rooms.
Over twenty Enhanced Skeleton Soldiers road the room on the left. Aside from the entrance, there were no other exits; it was clearly a dead end.
The room on the right, anwhile, housed three Bear Goblins.
Bear Goblins are a subspecies of Goblins and fall into the category of goblinoid creatures.
They were powerfully built, more than twice the height of a common Goblin, and had a ferocious and violent nature.
An adult Bear Goblin generally possessed the strength of an interdiate to Senior Knight.
A few elite individuals could even reach the level of a Peak Knight.
However, facing the Fog Crows—whose average combat strength surpassed that of a Peak Knight and bordered on a Grand Knight’s—the three Bear Goblins didn’t last a single exchange before being torn to shreds.
Afterward, the Fog Crows discovered a passage deep within the room.
A faint smile touched Pei Ze’s lips as he strode toward the room on the right.
After passing through the stone door at the back of the room, Pei Ze found himself in another long corridor.
The spacious corridor was completely bare, stretching out empty as far as the eye could see.
’I wonder how big this maze is.’
Gazing down the thousand-ter-long corridor, a glint appeared in Pei Ze’s eyes.
’Considering the trial is only seventy-two hours long, the maze can’t be that large.’
’The key is finding the right path to reach the Maze Center quickly.’
Composing himself, Pei Ze continued forward.
As he walked down the empty corridor, a sense of loneliness washed over him, the feeling of being utterly alone in a vast space.
However, that feeling was soon shattered.
An ear-piercing shriek suddenly cut through the air from above.
Pei Ze reacted instantly, diving forward. A powerful rush of air grazed his back and slamd into the hard floor.
With a loud CRACK, the floor shattered. Stone fragnts shot out like bullets, striking Pei Ze’s gray robe with sharp, tallic pings and sending sparks flying.
The mont Pei Ze was back on his feet, he executed a backhanded slash behind him, his sword moving faster than a bolt of lightning.
He imdiately felt the telltale sensation of his blade slicing through flesh.
A bloodcurdling shriek erupted, so piercing it made his eardrums ache.
Only then did Pei Ze get a chance to see what had ambushed him.
It was an ugly monster, humanoid at first glance. It had a long, narrow head and a small but sturdy torso, its gray skin mottled with spots. Its limbs were incredibly long and thin, resembling tentacles of segnted cartilage. The ends splayed out into thorny, flesh-like pads that opened like the petals of a flower.
A Throat-lock Monster!
The na surfaced in Pei Ze’s mind instantly.
