’The thirteen remaining Detection Spells should be enough to get to the Maze Center.’
Putting away the Crystal Ball, Pei Ze didn’t continue on his way. Instead, he sat down right where he was and began to ditate to recover his Spiritual Power.
He had been as conservative as possible with his Spiritual Power along the way, but by the ti he reached this point, he had still used up nearly half of it.
’To be safe, it’s best to restore my Spiritual Power to its peak before reaching the Maze Center.’
As Pei Ze entered a state of ditation, the room quickly fell silent, with only the occasional CRACKLE of sparks from the burning torches on the walls.
The Fierce Wild Boarman sat to the side, unexpectedly quiet. From ti to ti, it would sneak a glance at Wuyu, who was next to Pei Ze.
For so reason, it felt an extrely intense pressure from the small crow, so much so that it had to suppress its violent temper, terrified of provoking it.
After an unknown amount of ti, Pei Ze’s eyes snapped open. He growled in a low voice,
"Who’s there?"
Seeing they had been discovered, the newcor stopped trying to hide and walked openly through the doorway.
It was a young woman with blonde hair, blue eyes, and a curvaceous figure.
Pei Ze’s gaze fell on her ample chest, where a badge bearing the emblem of a violet was pinned.
’Violet Academy!’
At the sa ti, the young woman also spotted the High Tower Academy badge on Pei Ze’s chest, and her brows arched slightly.
Then, her eyes fell upon the Fierce Wild Boarman to the side, a flash of surprise in them.
The Fierce Wild Boarman was an Otherworldly Creature close to the realm of a Legendary Knight.
’To be able to summon an Otherworldly Creature of this level, the person in front of is clearly not weak.’
A glint appeared in the young woman’s eyes. She smiled brightly and said, "I an no harm. I’m just passing through."
Pei Ze watched her with a calm gaze, secretly probing her with the Eye of Omniscience.
[Analysis requires 12 Spiritual Power. Analyze?]
’Twelve points of Spiritual Power!’
Pei Ze’s heart skipped a beat.
Even analyzing the Wizard Apprentice he suspected was from the City Guard Army had only cost seven points of Spiritual Power.
This young woman was even more formidable than that man!
Pei Ze couldn’t help but give her a deep, searching look.
For so reason, Xiao Xi felt the man’s gaze was exceptionally profound, as if he could see right through her, inside and out.
She had never felt this way, not even when facing her own ntor.
Involuntarily, a trace of apprehension toward the young man before her blood deep within Xiao Xi’s heart.
She didn’t linger. With a smiling nod to Pei Ze, she headed for the exit on the other side.
Only after she had walked a good distance from the room, far from Pei Ze’s line of sight, did Xiao Xi’s tense body relax slightly. She frowned and muttered to herself,
"Just who was that man?"
She had thought very few people in this trial could pose a threat to her. At most, only ng Wei, Sang Fan, and Su Shouhai were worthy of a second look. But now, she had encountered a Wizard Apprentice she couldn’t see through.
And one from High Tower Academy, no less.
’Besides Yin Xue, who has already been promoted to a full Wizard, when did High Tower Academy produce another formidable figure?’
In the room flickering with firelight,
Pei Ze watched the young woman’s figure disappear into the distance before retracting his gaze and resuming his ditation.
By the ti his Spiritual Power was fully restored, more than six hours had passed.
Opening his eyes, Pei Ze stood up and stretched, then continued exploring with the Fierce Wild Boarman.
’There are still twenty hours until the trial ends. I wonder how many people are left in the maze?’
Pei Ze pondered this as he scouted the path along the empty corridor.
From his experiences over the past two days, the maze was undoubtedly enormous.
With fewer than a hundred participants scattered throughout the maze, encountering one another was certainly difficult.
He himself had only started running into people—two groups so far—after reaching the deeper parts of the maze.
However, he could predict that the closer he got to the Maze Center, the higher the chances of encountering other Wizard Apprentices would beco.
In the final hours before the trial’s end, the Wizard Apprentices who hadn’t been eliminated would likely all gather at the Maze Center.
That would be the ti when the true strength of the participants was tested.
A little over two hours later, Pei Ze encountered another group of participants.
There were three of them, dressed as military Wizard Apprentices in gray robes over inner armor.
Both parties erged from opposite ends of the corridor at the sa ti, spotting each other from three to four hundred ters away. Almost simultaneously, they adopted defensive stances, scrutinizing one another.
After a brief standoff, the leading Wizard Apprentice from the opposite side suddenly spoke.
"There’s no need for us to fight, don’t you think?"
"Indeed," Pei Ze agreed with a slight nod.
"Let us go first. How about it?"
"Fine."
Pei Ze certainly wouldn’t refuse having soone clear the path ahead for him.
Of course, he knew they were trying to get a head start to the Maze Center.
They were clearly confident in their own strength.
With Pei Ze’s agreent, the atmosphere in the corridor instantly relaxed.
The leading man nodded to Pei Ze, then cautiously led his companions to the room entrance in the middle of the corridor and stepped inside.
After they had walked so distance, the young man following behind Sang Fan spoke in a low voice, "Captain, I saw that guy had an Investigation Crystal Ball. Why didn’t we just take it from him?"
Sang Fan shook his head. "We shouldn’t be far from the Maze Center now. The three Investigation Crystal Balls we have left are enough. There’s no need to cause unnecessary trouble."
He paused, a aningful look in his eyes.
"Besides, that young man is not to be trifled with. If we really fought, even if we could win, we’d likely pay a steep price."
His two companions were both shocked by his words.
The young man who had just spoken looked skeptical. He said hesitantly, "But I saw him wearing a High Tower Academy badge. He’s just a student. How strong could he be?"
"Don’t underestimate those students. Though they’ve been training for fewer years than us, there are plenty of formidable figures among them. Isn’t ng Wei also a student? What do you think of his strength?"
The young man’s expression faltered.
ng Wei was widely acknowledged as one of the three most promising candidates to secure a spot in the competition; his strength was naturally imnse.
But he still wasn’t convinced.
Seeing his expression, Sang Fan shook his head helplessly and explained, "Have you forgotten what happened with Huo Nan?"
The young man paused for a mont, then quickly understood, his eyes widening in astonishnt. "Are you saying... that man just now was Pei Ze?"
Sang Fan nodded. "He’s sixteen or seventeen, a student from High Tower Academy, and he made it this far alone. I can’t think of anyone else it could be but Pei Ze."
The young man and his other companion imdiately grew solemn.
If it was Pei Ze, then it truly wasn’t worth making a move. The risks and rewards didn’t match up at all.
Sang Fan glanced at his two companions and said earnestly, "In the future, rember to observe and think more when you encounter situations. Don’t let a little imdiate gain blind your judgnt. Otherwise, if you’re impulsive and reckless like Tan Yang, you’ll sooner or later bring ruin upon yourself."
The two of them quickly nodded in agreent.
They knew their captain and Tan Yang had never gotten along, so they didn’t mind his disparaging remarks about Tan Yang.
The three of them said no more and continued onward.
Back in the corridor, Pei Ze waited patiently for more than ten minutes before entering the central doorway.
He was being extra cautious, having the Fierce Wild Boarman walk ahead to guard against any traps the three might have set along the way.
’Co to think of it, these Wizard Apprentices from the military must have so thod of long-distance communication. Otherwise, it’s impossible that the two groups I’ve encountered were both traveling together.’
Pei Ze mused to himself.
Unfortunately, he had already checked the dinsional bags of the three he had killed, but he hadn’t found anything of value.
The only item with so value was a necklace enchanted with the Secondary Stone Skin Skill and a weak acid-resistance trait. It was a Glimr-grade Magic Item, worth only about ten Magic Stone Coins—better than nothing, I suppose.
For the current Pei Ze, only Magic Items at the level of a Wizard Artifact could pique his interest.
’Unfortunately, very few people possess Wizard Artifacts.’
Pei Ze thought with so regret.
Not only were the requirents for using Wizard Artifacts strict, but they were also extraordinarily expensive. Even the elite disciples from Wizard Clans rarely owned one.
Otherwise, he might have been able to make so real gains in this trial.
