gumi Kato's self-introduction was brief, and then it was Izumi Kotomi's turn.
A self-introduction at school... I'm really not good at this, Kotomi thought to herself with a bit of reluctance.
[Don't worry, Host. When you stand up, just follow my prompts, and you'll deliver a perfect self-introduction,] the God-Level Heroine System suddenly chid in.
"Really? System, this is the first ti you actually seem reliable," Kotomi said.
[Why the first ti?] the system inquired.
"Don't sweat the details."
With that, Kotomi stood up from her seat, following the prompts given by the system, and began her self-introduction.
"My... my na is Izumi Kotomi. I'm new here, so please take care of ."
Then, like a nervous little rabbit, she gave a slight bow.
"Oh wow, so cute!"
"What an adorably soft-spoken girl! I'm in heaven!"
"OMG, I'm so glad I got placed in Class 1-F. I never expected there to be so many beautiful girls."
"So fair, so... big... Ugh, why am I, as a girl, feeling jealous?!"
Kotomi's self-introduction, tinged with a bit of nervousness yet undeniably cute, instantly captured the attention of the entire class. Her na was now firmly etched in everyone's mind.
But Kotomi herself, after completing the self-introduction according to the system's prompts, realized sothing was off. Feeling embarrassed, she ntally scolded the system:
"System! What did you just do?! I was planning to just say my na and sit down."
[But I made your introduction short too—just one sentence, less than a minute,] the system replied.
"Then why did my voice suddenly change as if I beca a different person, and why did I sound like a cute little loli instead of a regular high school girl? I don't even have any voice acting skills activated! And why did I bow nervously like a kindergartener introducing themselves for the first ti?"
Kotomi had assud the system would simply provide her with a decent script for her introduction, but instead, it made her sound incredibly cute and even made her do that nervous bow, which elicited a wave of endearnt from everyone who saw it.
[Your voice, your shy movents, and expressions were all modeled after Chino Kafu! I predicted there might be self-introductions on the first day of school, so I spent all last night watching Is the Order a Rabbit? from season one to season three. Even though I did it to mimic Chino's voice and expressions, my favorite character is still Cocoa. Host, how about you draw Is the Order a Rabbit? when you start drawing manga? Draw the manga, and then we can animate it!]
"Oh, so it was Chino Kafu... No wonder my voice and expressions felt so familiar. But wait, if I had known you'd do this, I would've just done it myself!"
[But Host, you're supposed to be a god-level heroine, right? As a female lead, shouldn't you captivate everyone's attention from the start? My super cute introduction made sure everyone rembered your na—I'd say the effect was perfect.]
"...You definitely got everyone's attention, that's for sure," Kotomi grumbled inwardly, keenly aware of all the eyes on her. She quickly sat down.
"You were really cute during your introduction, Izumi-san," gumi Kato remarked, looking at Kotomi with a gentle smile.
"Was I?" Kotomi replied awkwardly. "I was just really nervous. I get tongue-tied when I'm nervous."
"If you beco that cute when you're nervous, then I hope you'll get nervous more often," gumi Kato said calmly, her tone so soft and even that it was impossible to tell if she was joking or serious.
Kotomi just assud gumi Kato was teasing her and forced a bitter smile. "I prefer to be more relaxed."
"Really? Then, do you beco cute when you're relaxed too?"
"Huh?"
gumi Kato glanced at Kotomi's puzzled expression and let a small smile curl her lips. "I was just kidding. You don't need to worry. I just want to see more of your cute side, Izumi-san."
"Isn't cute a word more suited for children..." Kotomi pouted, muttering under her breath.
gumi Kato responded with a soft chuckle.
Soon, all the students finished their introductions, and it was ti to assign seats.
At Sobu High School, the first class for first-year students typically followed this pattern: the teacher would have everyone introduce themselves to get a general idea of who everyone was, and then they would assign seats.
"I wonder where my seat will be? And who my seatmate will be?" Kotomi thought, a bit expectantly. If possible, she hoped her seatmate would be a girl—soone easy to get along with.
Shizuka Hiratsuka called out Kotomi's na: "Izumi Kotomi, your seat is by the window, in the sixth row. Your seatmate is gumi Kato."
The sixth row by the window—the very last row.
Kotomi looked up and counted the rows from the front. Isn't that where I'm sitting now?!
And the person next to her didn't change either—it was still gumi Kato.
"Yay! Izumi-san, I guessed right again! Not only are we in the sa class, but we're also going to be seatmates," gumi Kato said with a smile, holding up her hands in a cute V-for-victory gesture.
"You're really sothing, Kato-san," Kotomi remarked, genuinely impressed by gumi Kato's luck in guessing correctly twice. Could it really be just a coincidence?
It probably is...
But having gumi Kato as her seatmate actually matched her ideal quite well.
—A girl, easy to get along with.
gumi Kato ticked both boxes without fail.
And she's cute too!
Thanks for asking—I'm at Sobu High School, and my seatmate is gumi Kato. Yay!
"I just got lucky and guessed correctly," gumi Kato said nonchalantly.
After another three minutes, Shizuka Hiratsuka finished assigning seats to all the students.
There were less than ten minutes left before the end of the first period.
During this short ti, the students began gathering their things to move to their assigned seats.
The classroom quickly beca lively again with the sounds of footsteps and chatter.
You could hear similar noises from the floors above and below; it seed that all the first-year classes were changing seats.
Kotomi and gumi Kato remained seated, as their assigned seats happened to be where they were already sitting, which saved them so trouble.
Finally, one of the most beautiful sounds in the world—the bell signaling the end of class—rang.
All the students had found their seats and t their seatmates, who they would be sitting next to for the foreseeable future, at least until they moved up to the second year and got reassigned.
Since they would be sitting next to each other for a long ti, every student hoped their seatmate would be easy to get along with.
Speaking of which, Kotomi realized she hadn't noticed who was assigned to sit in front of her when Shizuka Hiratsuka was calling out the nas.
Just as Kotomi was wondering who her front-seat neighbors would be, she heard approaching footsteps and a slightly airheaded voice:
"Oh! Yukino, we're seatmates! Huh? My back-row neighbors are Izumi-san and Kato-san. Aweso!"
That voice was unmistakable.
Kotomi couldn't help but smile inwardly, then looked up at the girl with light peach-colored hair in front of her and said, "Hello, Dango... Ahem, Yuigahama-san."
Ah, yes...
Her front-seat neighbors were Yukinoshita Yukino and Yui Yuigahama.
What a group.
