Ji Zhouye was severely injured and had been receiving IV fluids.
In the evening, when the IV drip finished, Ji Jingchuan brought dinner into the ward and handed Rong Yu a stack of docunts.
Rong Yu flipped them open.
Three years ago, the Zhao family had indeed undergone earth-shattering changes.
Father Zhao had an accident at a construction site, leaving both of his legs crippled.
Mother Zhao made a critical mistake at work, and all the family's savings went into compensating the factory.
The eldest son of the Zhao family was hit by a car and beca paralyzed from the waist down.
And Zhao Yaoi began her streak of incredible luck right around that ti. She was scouted by an esports company, beca an overnight sensation, and entered the esports circle, enjoying smooth sailing ever since.
Rong Yu looked at another pile of docunts. They contained the profiles of the fans Yaoyao had interacted with over the past three years.
Number one: a male college student. After interacting with Yaoyao, he was expelled from his university within a week and had accomplished nothing since.
Number two: a high school student. After he started following Yaoyao's offline matches, he suffered frequent accidents. To ensure he could safely take his college entrance exams, his family had to move to a different city before his life returned to normal.
Number three: a newlywed girl. Within a single month, she experienced her husband's infidelity, a miscarriage, and the siphoning off of her assets... Her originally happy life was left in ruins.
Number four...
Rong Yu frowned deeper the more she read.
Over the past few years, Yaoyao had interacted with over thirty fans in total, and every single one of them had ended up in miserable circumstances.
"Look for yourself."
She tossed the docunts onto Ji Zhouye.
Ji Zhouye flipped through the pages one by one, looking as if he had been struck by lightning. "H-how is this possible? This is too absurd. It's a coincidence, it has to be a coincidence."
"I don't think it's a coincidence," Rong Yu said, looking at him. "Think about it carefully. Did you start experiencing frequent bad luck right after you t Yaoyao?"
Ji Zhouye nodded blankly.
Rong Yu pressed on, "Then try to recall, right before each stroke of bad luck, did Yaoyao do anything unusual?"
Ji Zhouye grabbed his hair, trying hard to rember, but he couldn't co up with anything.
His eyes were a little red. "Great-grandmother, are you saying that Yaoyao makes people unlucky? Why? That's not scientific."
"The fact that Great-grandmother can undergo soul transmigration is proof enough that many things in this world cannot be explained by science," Ji Jingchuan said, his brow furrowed. "The fans Yaoyao has interacted with share another common trait: their original lives were remarkably fortunate. Whether in terms of family, career, or academics, they were doing much better than ordinary people. It seems she can accurately identify this specific group of people."
Rong Yu knit her brows. "How does she manage to transfer other people's luck onto herself?"
This was a taphysical paradox.
She couldn't see through it.
The three of them fell silent, lost in their own thoughts.
After a long while, Ji Jingchuan spoke slowly, "Actually, I've always felt that I am incredibly lucky. How many people, after being switched at birth, manage to return to their blood relatives? And how many people, after being forced to drop out of school, can return to a high school classroom and get accepted into one of the top universities in the country?"
"Therefore, Chuan, you should cherish this luck," Rong Yu looked at him, "instead of taking risks."
Ji Jingchuan replied, "Great-grandmother, you are a researcher. Don't you want to figure out exactly what this energy is?"
Rong Yu closed her eyes.
The mory of her first eting with Yaoyao flashed through her mind.
That day, she had sensed that sothing was off about Yaoyao, so as soon as she returned, she asked Chuan to investigate.
By the sa token, Yaoyao should also be able to sense her uniqueness.
She opened her clear eyes. "I will go with you to et this Yaoyao."
Ji Zhouye propped himself up and got out of bed. "I-I'm going too. I want to ask her face-to-face why she blocked ."
"Shut up." Rong Yu pushed him back down and shouted, "Si Lin, Hai Chang'an!"
The two of them were in Zhou Shiyu's ward next door. Upon hearing the summons, they scurried over in a flash.
Si Lin: "Miss Rong, I'm here!"
Hai Chang'an: "Miss Rong, what are your orders?"
Rong Yu said coldly, "Keep an eye on this kid, Aye. Do not allow him to leave the hospital for even a single step. Can you do that?"
"Yes!"
Rong Yu felt reassured and left with Ji Jingchuan.
After driving for over twenty minutes, they arrived at the esports building where Team XY was located. The lobby was incredibly lively; it turned out they were celebrating Yaoyao's advancent to the Global Esports Tournant.
Yaoyao sat on the sofa, holding a glass of dark burgundy wine, looking languid as she enjoyed the attention.
Just then, a staff mber walked over and said, "There's soone outside who wants to see you, Sister Yaoyao."
Yaoyao set down her wine glass. "Is it a fan?"
The staff mber shook his head. "Doesn't look like it."
Normal fans would have fanaticism in their eyes and carry gifts, but the man outside had a very cold expression.
Yaoyao assud it was soone from her hotown coming to look for her.
She walked outside with a look of displeasure. Pushing open the glass doors, her eyes imdiately landed on Ji Jingchuan standing there.
Her displeased features instantly smoothed out, and her eyes lit up. Stepping in her high heels, she quickly walked over and held out her hand. "Hello, I'm Yaoyao."
Ji Jingchuan's gaze fell on her hand.
Great-grandmother had specifically instructed him to absolutely never have any physical contact with Yaoyao.
He spoke in an indifferent tone, "I am Ji Zhouye's older brother."
"Oh?" Yaoyao crossed her arms over her chest, her eyes filled with amusent. "What are you here to do on his behalf?"
Ji Jingchuan stared at her. "Why did you block him?"
"I accidentally clicked the wrong button. I'll just add him back." Yaoyao shrugged and took out her phone. "You're Ji Zhouye's brother. Why don't we add each other as friends too?"
Ji Jingchuan took a step back. "No need."
Yaoyao smiled. "If you don't want to, that's fine. By the way, the Global Esports Tournant will be held in the capital in a few days. Tickets are hard to co by. I'll give two tickets to Ji Zhouye, and you can co along with him."
Before she even finished speaking, Ji Jingchuan had already turned around and walked away.
She stood rooted to the spot, staring intently at his retreating back, her eyes filled with a sense of inevitable conquest.
Rong Yu had been standing at the staircase the whole ti. Only after Yaoyao went back inside did she retract her gaze, her voice deep. "Chuan, you have beco her prey."
"Great-grandmother is wrong." A smile curled the corners of Ji Jingchuan's lips. "We are the hunters. She is the prey."
He took out his phone and checked. "The Global Esports Finals are being held in five days. We don't have much ti left."
Rong Yu already had a preliminary plan.
She had Si Lin and Hai Chang'an stay at the hospital to keep a close watch on Ji Zhouye, and she confiscated Ji Zhouye's phone.
Sure enough.
Yaoyao, who had previously blocked Ji Zhouye, started initiating contact after eting Ji Jingchuan.
"Aye, you have an older brother, right? What's your brother's na?"
"Aye, your brother seems to have so issues with . Is there so misunderstanding?"
"Aye, I hope you can co to the esports finals in five days. It would be great if your brother could co too. I've specially prepared gifts for you both."
"Aye, if you really like , you absolutely must bring your brother along."
Rong Yu replied with three words: "Got it."
The next day, when she returned to school for classes, she was cornered by Duan Fei at the classroom door. "Rong Yu, let's talk."
Rong Yu thought it was about so class activity. "Talk about what?"
"Co over here." Duan Fei walked to a deserted corner. "I wanted to explain things clearly to you. My senior, Zhai Weitong, and I are not boyfriend and girlfriend. Please don't misunderstand."
Rong Yu frowned. "No, why are you explaining this to ?"
Duan Fei's face was taut. "Anyway, just don't go talking nonsense to anyone."
Finding him utterly baffling, Rong Yu simply turned around and walked away.
