But at ho, she would complain and criticize everything about Qiann Yan and Cheng Huai.

Zhou Lalann could hear Zhang Juying cursing and muttering from her room.

"Zhou Lalann, where did you disappear to this ti?"

Hearing Zhang Juying’s voice, Zhou Lalann quickly ran out of the room: "Mom, what’s wrong?"

"What’s wrong – I’ve been busy here all day, and you didn’t even co to lend a hand. You’ve been living in the city for a while and think you’re a city person now?"

Zhou Lalann quickly put on a smile and rushed over to help: "Mom, no, I was just in the room reading for a bit."

"All you know is how to read, and you don’t even bring your brother along." Zhang Juying knew well that studying was good. She hoped Zhou Lalann would help bring her precious son up too.

She had already thought it over. If Yuaanyuaan wasn’t cut out for it, having a college graduate sister wouldn’t be a bad thing for the future.

Once Zhou Lalann graduated, she could find a good job, and by then, she could help Yuaanyuaan buy a marriage house in the city and get a wife. Raising a daughter is all for this kind of return, isn’t it?

Otherwise, why wouldn’t she have married Zhou Lalann off early?

Zhou Lalann bowed her head to pick vegetables, responding mildly, but there was a chill in her eyes.

Yuaanyuaan was her brother, and she had no objections to tutoring him or helping with his howork. But if her mother wanted her to be a lifelong nanny, always putting her brother first, that was impossible.

She had her own life.

In the afternoon, Zhou Lalann tutored Zhou YuaanYuaan with his howork.

This sester, her brother indeed showed a greater sense of responsibility with his assignnts, which made things easier for her.

With her brother working so hard, she felt a bit more at ease. If he managed to succeed in his studies in the future, it wouldn’t be bad. At least when he beca capable, her mom wouldn’t always focus on her, and she wasn’t afraid of Zhou YuaanYuaan being better than her.

"Yuaanyuaan, are you tired? Don’t keep reading, or you’ll ruin your eyes. Your sister should know to let you rest for a bit." Zhang Juying brought eggs for Zhou YuaanYuaan.

While Zhou YuaanYuaan was eating the eggs, a fellow villager ca by to ask him to play.

He rembered that he wanted to score a perfect hundred, feeling a bit hesitant. Zhang Juying saw her son’s longing look and ca over to pat his head: "Yuaanyuaan, if you want to play, go ahead. You can’t just be studying at ho all the ti; a balance of work and play is important."

Zhou YuaanYuaan thought she was right. He had easily improved from failing to scoring over eighty. With a little more effort, maybe he’d score ninety, or even a hundred, next sester.

Zhou Lalann: "Yuaanyuaan, you can’t relax on your studies."

"Did anyone tell you to speak, you wretched girl? Yuaanyuaan is just playing for a while, don’t be so strict. Yuaanyuaan is smart and doesn’t need to shut himself in a room and study all day like you. You wretched girl, are you jealous of your brother? Can’t stand to see him do well?"

Zhou Lalann was speechless and didn’t say anything further.

She certainly didn’t stay cooped up in her room studying every day. Wasn’t she spending most of the day helping with housework? Only when going to school did she find so respite.

Zhou YuaanYuaan was made to feel high and mighty by Zhang Juying’s praise, and he actually started believing he could make great progress with minimal effort.

This kind of situation had happened more than once.

...

The holidays passed quickly, and Qiann Yan was set to return.

Cheng Huai carried bags of all sizes, seeing Qiann Yan off to the village entrance, where a paved road awaited, along with the car Qiann Yan had arranged.

Qiann Yan sensed sothing off in Cheng Huai’s gaze and stared at him closely.

Cheng Huai felt uneasy under her gaze but showed no intention of looking away.

"Cheng Huai."

"What?" Cheng Huai asked instinctively.

Qiann Yan: "Study well, don’t think about things that could affect your studies."

Cheng Huai was very nervous. Did she know what he was thinking?
