The interior of The Velvet Lounge was dim and filled with low music. Julius walked through the main entrance, wearing a simple pair of glasses and a dark coat to hide his true identity.
He had used a fake ID card at the front door, pretending to be a low-level accountant from a partner company who was just looking for a quiet drink after a long day of etings.
The lounge was busy, filled with wealthy business people and pack mbers talking in hushed tones. Julius walked straight toward the main bar area, sitting down on a high stool.
A mont later, Marcus slipped into the room through the side doors, keeping a professional distance. As Harrison’s assistant, he knew exactly how to blend in without drawing attention to Julius.
He stood a few yards away near a large pillar, pretending to check his phone while keeping his eyes moving. Daniel and the four elite guards Harrison had sent were scattered around the outer doors, securing the exits.
The bartender ca over, wiping the counter with a clean towel. "What can I get for you, sir?"
"Just a soda with lemon, please," Julius said, keeping his voice soft and ordinary.
As the bartender moved away to fix the drink, Julius glanced around the room. According to the old layouts Marcus had found before they left the mansion, the private office where the guest logs were kept was located at the very end of the back hallway, just past the VIP lounge area.
The door to that corridor was guarded by two large n in suits, but they looked relaxed, occasionally laughing at jokes on their phones.
Julius took a small sip of his soda when it arrived. He waited until the two guards at the back door stepped away for a mont to guide a group of wealthy guests toward the private booths.
Now is the ti, Julius thought.
He stood up from his stool, leaving his drink on the counter. He walked casually toward the back hallway, trying to look like a confused custor who had simply lost his way.
The mont he crossed the threshold into the quieter corridor, he slowed his steps. The walls were lined with closed doors, and he needed to find the one labeled for administration.
To make his presence look normal in case anyone walked by, Julius stopped near a large decorative plant. He bent down slightly, patting his pockets and looking at the floor as if he had dropped sothing expensive.
"Did you lose sothing, young man?"
The sudden voice made Julius jump slightly. He straightened up quickly and turned around, ready to offer a quick excuse about losing his wallet.
But the words caught in his throat.
Standing just two feet away from him was a tall, exceptionally elegant man. He was dressed in a dark suit, his hair neatly combed back. He was incredibly handso, with a calm, polite smile on his lips.
But it wasn’t the man’s clothes or his face that made Julius freeze.
The very mont their eyes t, a sudden pressure dropped onto the air inside the narrow hallway. It felt like a thick, invisible wall pushing down on Julius’s shoulders. The scent hit his nose a second later—a dark, crushing, and terrifyingly familiar aura. It was the exact sa scent he had slled outside the restroom at the grand gala and this was the exact sa face he saw.
Julius’s heart began to hamr violently against his ribs. His mind went into a complete state of shock. It wasn’t a hallucination, he realized, his fingers tightening into fists. I wasn’t crazy. He is real.
The elegant stranger did not seem bothered by Julius’s shock. He kept his smile gentle and welcoming, stepping just a bit closer. "You look a bit lost. This area is usually reserved for private mbers only."
Julius forced his throat to open, swallowing hard to find his voice. He had to keep his acting up, rembering Harrison’s strict warning to avoid anyone who tried to talk to him. "I... yes. I think I dropped my silver cufflink near the lounge, and I thought it might have rolled down this way."
"Ah, a silver cufflink," the man said, nodding his head understandingly. He looked down at the floor for a brief second before looking back up at Julius. His eyes were a strange, deep color that seed to see right through Julius’s disguise. "I am Julian. I happen to help manage so of the private events in this building. I can politely offer to help you find what you are looking for."
Julius felt a cold shiver run down his spine. The na was obviously fake—an intentional play on his own na—but the confidence in the man’s voice was terrifying. This person wasn’t just a regular alpha or a pack rival. He was a second Enigma, and Julius was certain that he was actively inserting himself directly into his path.
"That is alright," Julius said quickly, taking a step backward to create so distance between them, desperate to follow Harrison’s rule. "The pressure of the man’s pheromones was making his head spin, completely different from Harrison’s warmth. I don’t want to trouble you. It wasn’t that expensive anyway. I should just get back to the main bar."
"It is no trouble at all, Julius," the stranger said softly.
Julius froze dead in his tracks, his breath completely catching in his lungs. He hadn’t given his na to anyone at the door, and his fake identity card had a completely different na printed on it. The stranger knew exactly who he was.
"You should be more careful when walking into unfamiliar places," the man nad Julian murmured, his voice smooth but holding a danger underneath it. He took a slow step forward, his eyes locking onto Julius’s face with an intense interest. "The city is becoming a very dangerous place for soone like you. So people are looking for things that don’t belong to them."
Before Julius could respond or demand answers, the door at the end of the hallway opened, and two lounge managers walked out carrying clipboards. The stranger imdiately took a step back, the crushing pressure in the air fading slightly as he gave Julius a polite, formal bow of his head.
"Enjoy your evening. I am sure we will see each other again very soon."
He turned around and walked down the side exit stairs, vanishing into the shadows before Julius could even blink.
Julius stood alone in the hallway, his knees trembling slightly as he realized the massive danger they were facing. The second Enigma was real, he knew Julius’s na, and he was already watching their every move.
