Iris:
"Would you let stay?" I asked her in a whisper.
"What would you do staying here? Kash is getting married," she said, folding her arms across her chest and tapping her foot on the ground.
"Unless he has given you hope," she added, and I sniffled again.
"You have made a deal with , Mother, and I want to make one with you now," I said, taking a deep breath, but I kept hiccuping from crying too much and holding back my tears.
"In exchange for the cure, I want freedom from you. I want to be left alone. Do not worry, I will not stay here with Kash, because you are right. He is no saint either. But I have every right to go and start fresh sowhere else," I told her, hoping she would give at least this much leniency and set free.
But the way she grunted and the way her face turned bitter shocked .
"No. You will co ho with . You will et your brother. Your children will et their uncle. That is my decision, and you have no authority to make a deal. Do you hear ?" she almost raised her voice before she quieted herself when she ntioned the children.
"You should think about your children’s future. Do you have any idea what will happen once you transition here among werewolves, or when your children transition here? Do you have any clue what they will do to them? The sa Kash who is calling them his children will call them monsters. It has happened before, and it will happen again, because werewolves hate us."
There was a brief mont when, the way my mother spoke, it did not seem like she was being hateful. It looked like she truly believed the werewolves had done sothing to her.
"Now, tell , what were you staring out of the window for?" she asked sternly. When I did not respond, she started to smile to herself.
"You know, your brother has been asleep for a while now," She had only said that much when I realized it was a threat.
"Kash has gone to get the water," I spoke up instantly, only because I did not want my child to suffer for my arrogance.
"Good," my mother smiled.
"That makes so happy," she added, smiling more widely. However, her face quickly turned into a harsh, expressionless one.
"Do not ever try to hide anything from . The only reason I am being nice to you is because I am your mother. Now, you will co to the minute he brings the cure. Rember, do not make him give it to Colin. It will not work, because Colin is not sick. Rember that."
She hissed and turned around and then walked away. There was this victorious walk she did, right in front of , that made clench my fists.
Once she walked away, I tiredly sat down on the couch, gripping the edge of the soft cushions.
I could not live like this. Was she really serious about getting married to Luca? I did not want to do it. But what could I do?
Once Wilson woke up and he was fine, my mother would get even more crazy.
She loved Wilson a lot, and once he woke up, she would try to do everything to give him more power.
She would even use his powers to start a war with the werewolves. And I could tell that she hated werewolves.
But one thing she said was also true. Werewolves did not like lycans either.
In that hopeless mont, I pulled out my phone and dialed my father’s number.
I did not know how long it had been since I had spoken to him alone. But I had accused him of being the reason my mother was this way.
Years ago, before running away and marrying Kash, I had told my father that Mother was going through so sort of stress, that she was not okay in her head, and that he needed to get her help instead of letting her do whatever she wanted.
My father got angry, slapped , and decided to punish by getting married to anyone he wanted. That was how I had run away.
But maybe things have changed now. Maybe he would realize how unhinged she was once I told him what she had done to . With that thought in mind, I dialed my father’s number and put the phone next to my ear.
"Hello?" the voice ca from the other side.
"Father," I said, but then I fell silent.
"Iris? Well, that is odd. Why are you calling so early in the morning?" my father questioned. There was a little confusion in his voice, but I could not detect concern for .
"Do you know what Mother is doing?" I asked him, my heart thumping in my chest.
"Getting cure for Wilson and bringing you back ho?" he asked.
"And do you know how she is doing it?" I asked, my heart beating even harder.
"No. But I believe her."
Before he could go on about how she was the best mate and how she never made a mistake, I had to stop him.
"She took videos of ."
The minute I said that, I heard complete silence from the other side.
"The videos that no girl would want leaked. And she did it by force, with your right-hand man’s son, who was drunk and passed out. She forced to pose with him, undressed, while holding a gun to your granddaughter’s head. That is what she is doing," I finished, closing my eyes. My lips parted as little hiccups escaped because I did not think my father would be of much help either.
"Has that woman gone crazy?" he yelled, and my eyes opened in shock.
That single response from him, hearing that he did not think it was okay, changed sothing inside for a mont. It gave courage. It gave hope.
