Iris:

"Hello?" my father spoke, his phone on speaker. Of course, I could not speak with Kash directly.

He would recognize my voice. Or would he? I could not be sure. I an, for all I knew, he must have forgotten about .

He had told I ant little to nothing to him. He must have been very happy that I left, because now he would be able to cherish his new mate without any responsibilities on his shoulders.

I had been thinking about all this when his voice ca from the other side.

"Who am I speaking with?" he asked in his stern and arrogant voice, still enough to make my heart twist in my chest.

"I am the Alpha King of the East," my father lied.

There was an Alpha King of the East, but he was not really doing anything anymore. In simpler words, he was not given the power to control the affairs of the East. My father had taken over those matters, and now I had the control.

"No, I rember the Alpha King of the East’s voice. Who are you?" I heard Kash ask, sounding skeptical.

I gestured to my father, reminding him of the lie we had co up with to delay Kash’s visit.

"I am the new Alpha King," my father replied, and Kash went silent for a second.

"We had a crowning, and I am taking over the pack matters now, along with the territory matters. That is why I do not think we will be able to hold this eting right now. Maybe soti later, I will have a better understanding of everything," my father explained, hoping Kash would stop being stubborn.

But I knew Kash, and that was how others knew him too. If he wanted power or land, he would get it.

"Well then, I guess our eting will be even better, because I will be able to help you with a lot of things," Kash insisted, making share a glance with my father.

He was being extrely stubborn at this point.

"What is the need for it?" my father asked. "We are busy. I am trying to get along well with the Pack mbers and listen to their complaints. I do not think it is the right mont for us to be talking about this. It would not be the right mont for us to et," my father added, keeping his voice calm even when Kash was testing our limits.

"I think it will be fine. I think we should et," Kash insisted again, and at this point, my father looked disturbed.

We shared brief eye contact, and I clenched my jaw. He was going to co here, no matter what.

"Anyway, I will see you soon," Kash remarked, hanging up.

"Has he always been this way?" my father asked, repeating the question he always did.

"Worse," I comnted, folding my arms across my chest and scratching my skin.

"What are we going to do now?" Jas asked, waiting for my response.

"What needs to be done," I replied.

"Does that an we are going to war?" Jas continued.

With a nod of my head, I let him know that was exactly where I was headed.

"Anyway, we should all rest," my father suggested. We had spent the entire day discussing how to strengthen our border so that Kash would not invade our territory.

At the sa ti, I had been missing spending ti with my children too. So my father was right. We needed to rest, at least I did.

I bid goodbye and stepped out of my father’s office, heading straight to the second floor toward my children’s bedroom. I had decorated their bedroom myself.

It was a large hall with two beds on each side of the wall. There were many windows behind the beds. There was their toy corner, their study corner, everything was perfect.

But once I entered the room, I found the two sitting separately on their beds, not as cheerful as I rembered them to be.

"What is going on? Are you two not playing with your toys?" I asked, smiling as I reached Colin’s bed.

"I am not interested in playing with toys," Colin complained.

Colin had always been the understanding one, so seeing him look at with complaints in his eyes shook .

"Oh, then tell what you want to do now. I will play with you both," I offered.

As soon as I said that, he rolled his eyes and lay down on the bed, turning his back to .

"Okay, so Colin does not want to play with . Maybe Amy does?" I remarked.

I got up from his bed and moved toward Amy’s bed, but she quickly lay down too, giving her back.

"Children, what is going on?" I asked.

The two finally turned around, sat on the bed, and watched my face.

"You are attacking Daddy," Amy said, and her words sent a chill through .

"Who told you that?" I asked her sternly.

"We had it on the table, Mommy," Colin interrupted in a harsh tone. "We were trying not to talk about Daddy because we thought you would be hurt, but you are the one hurting Daddy."

"These are adult matters," I replied. "Besides, it is not like your Daddy—"

I stopped when Luca entered the room and gestured at , giving a look as well.

"What are you doing?" he complained. "They are children."

I took a deep breath and turned to my children again, forcing a smile onto my lips. He was right. I did not know what was happening to . Everything felt too fast.

"I am not attacking anyone, okay? I will never attack your father," I told them, lying through clenched teeth.

Then I turned to Luca.

"What is it?" I asked.

He gestured outside, and I knew he wanted to follow him. I got up from Amy’s bed and followed him out, only to find my mother standing there.

"She has been insisting on seeing you," Luca told , pointing toward her.

I gestured back at Luca, letting him know he should go inside and play with the children, at least until I returned.

Facing my mother, I asked, "What is it?"

My face held no warmth, even as she tried to look like a victim of so kind of mistreatnt. I folded my arms and tapped my foot as she watched my movents carefully. After a deep breath, she looked at .

"So, when are we waking up Wilson?" she asked gently, fluttering her eyelashes as if it would work on .

I watched her for a mont and rembered the decision I had already made. It was ti to let her know.

"So," I replied in a soft, calm, eerie tone, "never."
