Zoe:

My niece and nephew were back, and it felt like happiness had returned to . Over the past few days, I had been feeling sick, sad, and lonely.

Markus told his parents wanted to see him, so he had gone back to spend ti with them.

Whenever he did, I was left alone. He would not even pick up my calls, and that made the loneliness worse. Seeing Amy and Colin again changed everything.

"What is this on your face?" I asked Colin, my concern growing as I touched the handprint on his cheek. There was a similar one on Amy’s face.

"They were bad people. They hit us," Amy explained.

As soon as she said that, I lifted my head to look at my mother. Tears ford in my eyes almost instantly, filled with anger.

"It’s alright. Their father has taken care of everything," my mother assured as she gently touched my hand, trying to comfort .

"Kids, we have prepared food for you, and after dinner we will have ice cream for dessert," my mother told them cheerfully.

She was always bright around these children. They were sweet, and all the tension our house had carried over the past few days faded once they arrived.

However, speaking of tension, Lara stepped out of the hallway, rushing away from my brother’s bedroom.

"Did you guys not see what just happened?" she demanded the mont she appeared.

"And we also heard that Kash said he did not get married to her," my mother replied before turning back with a smile for the children.

"And is that enough?" Lara questioned. "I don’t understand why you are not taking this seriously. That woman ca back with him wearing a wedding gown. That must an sothing."

She complained while watching our faces, disbelief written all over hers.

"Lara, I will tell you this much," my mother began, then paused when she noticed the children. "How about we talk about it later? Let’s not push Kash. You know he gets angry and makes his own decisions. We don’t want him to get stubborn, do we?"

She tried to be discreet around the children while speaking about their mother.

"Well, sure," Lara replied. "And when are we going to do this? After you are done taking care of her children, treating them like they are the only thing in the world that matters?"

The mont she spoke about the children in that tone, my mother looked disappointed, and I stared at Lara in disbelief.

"What?" Lara complained, likely noticing our reaction.

"Lara, they are my son’s children. They are the future prince and princess," my mother told her. "I thought you loved my son. You should love his children too. Don’t worry, how many tis do we have to tell you that you are our choice?"

My mother tried to explain, but Lara stomped her foot and stepped away. She returned monts later, clearly anxious.

"How can he take Iris to his bedroom?" she questioned. "Haven’t they both rejected each other? Don’t you think it’s strange? Isn’t it illegal? Isn’t it a sin? Isn’t it a cri that he has a rejected woman in his bedroom while his wife, his mate, is sick and worried outside?"

She complained again, making my mother and exchange a glance. We only wanted to spend ti with the children and comfort them. They had just arrived, and it seed like they had been through a lot. Lara, however, kept talking without stopping.

I understood that when you love soone, jealousy and worry can follow, but Lara needed to stop and take her questions to Kash. He was the only one with answers.

"I just can’t believe you are sitting here like nothing is wrong," she complained, sounding upset.

My mother looked concerned and tried to reassure her, but I did not try as hard. I rembered how Lara had behaved over the past few days when Kash was not around.

She had been harsh and rude, and now that Kash was back with Iris, she wanted us to take her side.

I stayed quiet and focused on the children. Thankfully, Kash arrived soon, or Lara would have made the room unbearable.

He stepped out of the bedroom and headed straight toward us.

"Kash, what is going on?" Lara asked. "I don’t like any of this. Even if you want to keep her here, you should send her to the guest room. Rumors will spread that you’re keeping a rejected mate in your bedroom, and it won’t look good."

She imdiately pressed him, clearly trying to get Iris removed. But the way Kash approached us made it obvious that was not going to happen.

"Iris and my children will be staying in the main mansion with , with us, from now on, like a family," Kash announced.

I watched Lara’s jaw drop. My mother looked disturbed as well, but I focused on the bigger picture. The kids were going to stay here with us.

That ant we would not be lonely. That ant I would have children to play with and spend ti with.

I had to hide my smile because Lara was already losing control.

"What do you an by that?" Lara demanded. "How can she stay here? She’s a rejected woman. This is inappropriate. Where is Luca? I saw him arrive. Wasn’t she dating him? Wasn’t she going to marry him? Why else would she be wearing that white dress? If she wasn’t marrying you, then she must have worn it for him."

She spoke without stopping, all in one breath. As usual, my mother and I exchanged a glance, waiting for Kash to put her in her place.

And he did. He always grew angry when questioned like that.

"If her being rejected is your only issue, then let be honest with you," Kash said as he straightened his back.

He smiled at the children before turning to Lara, his hands in his pockets, looking confident and at ease.

What he said next left Lara gasping. My mother and I shared a glance, our eyes widening with each passing second.

"We never rejected each other. It was to fool her mother. And I will not tolerate any disrespect toward my children’s mother and my first wife," Kash stated.

He then gestured for the children to go with him to Iris’s bedroom, leaving the three of us standing there, completely stunned.
