Kash:

By the ti I woke up, everything had been finished. All the files were signed, and all the packs were inford that I was the new Alpha King.

The territory was under my control. The council had transferred all the important files into my personal account, linking every decision to .

To be honest, even if I had to leave the territory and step down from the throne, I would do it. My mission was just to get the pearl.

And I knew that after last ti, when I needed Lara’s help, she would never have done it again.

Even last ti, she was able to get information from sowhere about my son being sick.

That night I had the best sleep. I had once again forgotten to put my phone on the charger.

I woke up feeling fresh, with a smile on my lips as I rembered.

"Iris, you will have no reason to be upset with anymore."

I spoke to myself as I quickly got out of bed and grabbed my phone, then realized it was off again because the battery was dead.

"Fuck," I groaned and crossed the room to grab my charger and plug it in.

I took a shower, then changed into a black suit like always. I had inford my warriors that we were heading back ho. We were starting our journey today.

When I walked out of the room and made my way to the dining table for breakfast, I noticed Lara was already there.

She looked very sad, but the mont she saw , she pouted, folded her arms on the table, and turned her face to the side.

"He is here," I heard her whisper, and I wondered if she was already talking to her father and telling him what was upsetting her.

"Just stay calm. Everything will be fine," I heard Lord Ronald say.

Her father looked at her and laughed, probably taking it as a small hiccup and his daughter being overdramatic. I an, he had never seen treat her badly, so I guess it made sense.

"Co here, your mate has been eating my head ever since she woke up," her father joked, pointing at Lara. She pouted even more.

"I’m upset with him," she muttered, giving a small shrug.

"Look," her father comnted, pointing at .

I stared at her for a mont while taking my seat.

"Yeah, she is too much. Sotis she needs to understand that a person can be busy," I replied.

My tone held no hint of a smile, which made her father tilt his head. It was the kind of look people give when they are trying to adjust to soone’s behavior and understand whether I was being playful or just plain rude.

"Yeah, but mates are this way. And as an Alpha King, you have to win her heart. You know, we n, we are—" her father started to ramble, not even eating his food as he tried to lecture .

"Yeah, I know all that. I’m an Alpha King of more territories than you’ve ever had," I replied, grabbing a fork and knife and starting to eat my olet.

"But of course I’m more experienced than you, because I’ve spent more ti with my mate than you have with your mate and your daughter," he hinted.

There was sothing in his voice that told he was struggling to understand whether it was all happening in real ti.

I knew it would take him so ti to realize I was being rude, because for a while he would convince himself that I was just tired. If he admitted the truth, then he would also have to admit that he had been tricked out of the crown. Nobody wants to feel that way.

I could hear quiet disagreent between father and daughter. When I looked up after taking a bite, I saw Lara pointing at while her father rubbed his thumb against his index finger and glared at .

"Alpha King Kash. Of course you have more territories under you than anyone else. But that does not change the fact that I’m more experienced, and I’m also your father-in-law, the one who crowned you," he continued, his pride clearly hurt.

I let out a small chuckle and shook my head, watching him stare at , waiting for a response.

"Do you have sothing to say, Kash?" he asked, studying my face as if he could not believe my audacity.

"No. I’m just trying to eat, and it seems like your daughter got the habit of talking too much from you," I answered.

I ant it as a joke, but it did not land well. For an ex-Alpha King to hear that about himself, of course his ego was hurt.

Both of them stared at in silence. Then Lord Ronald began to laugh and shook his head.

"It seems like he needs so rest," he comnted, trying to comfort himself since I did not explain my words.

That was the beauty of it. So people want to believe sothing so badly that when they are not given an explanation, they make one up themselves.

"Oh, trust , I did. I asked it very clearly last night," I replied, smiling. When I lifted my head, I saw Lara staring at in silence.

"Did you speak with your mother?" she asked, as if she did not know I had been on a live call with her the night before.

"Yeah, the Warriors had a video call with my mother last day. You were there, weren’t you?" I asked, throwing the question back at her to point out that she was only trying to start a topic.

Even responding to her so harshly over sothing so small was my way of treating her the way she had treated my wife and children.

A big part of it was my fault too. I had taken her ho and given her the space to speak to Iris that way. But I had no other choice. I had to save her.

For her to act innocent and hurt, she seed to forget that she had done worse things to people she believed were beneath her.

"I cannot forget the night your husband called and told he missed you so much that he was planning a honeymoon for you," Lara’s father said, likely trying to remind us of our love and comfort his daughter.

"Oh yeah, that was the night when he also told you about his first wife, right?" Lara replied with a small laugh, which made scoff and continue eating.

"Right. That he wanted to stay loyal to just one woman. I rember that," her father added.

They left strange pauses, as if they expected to say sothing, but I remained silent.

"So I guess you’re not leaving for the honeymoon from here," her father said, even though I had already made it clear I was getting tired of their nonstop talking.

"Yeah, I’m heading ho today," I replied.

As soon as I finished, Lara straightened in her seat.

"Well, pack my bags," she called to her maid.

"Wait. What for?" I asked, stopping her from getting up.

She slowly sat back down and forced a tired but fake smile.

"We are going ho, right?" It sounded more like a statent than a question.

"I’m going ho," I said, pointing the fork at myself.

Without moving my head, I looked at her father and then back at her.

"I have to deal with so things. I don’t think your daughter will be comfortable there among the chaos," I spoke directly to her father.

Lara stared at for a mont, then stretched her neck and nodded.

"Daddy, it’s about that thing, you know? He doesn’t want there because of all the chaos," she explained, speaking for again. I let her continue.

"All right. Yeah, that is a good idea. You should go ho first," her father agreed. She moved her shoulders happily.

Little did she know, I was not going to bring her back.

"And then you will send your warriors to fetch my daughter like a Luna Queen, right? That is what n usually do," he added, making it clear he expected her to be brought ho with respect.

I did not respond. I kept eating until I finished my al.

I stood from the table without saying another word to either of them and walked away.

Once I was in the room and started packing, I got a call from Walkin. My phone was fully charged, and I saw several missed calls and ssages, but I could not read them because the call ca in as soon as the phone turned on.

"Hello, Walkin," I greeted, holding the phone between my ear and shoulder while putting my things into my bag and making sure the pearl was still there.

"Kash, you need to co back ho. Sothing happened to Iris."

The words had barely left Walkin’s mouth when the phone slipped from between my ear and shoulder.
