Lara coming over was completely unplanned. I thought she would take the hint. At least for a few days, she would wait for to send her a guard.
At least that is what her father had said, that after marriage and after crowning, if a wife goes away, she is to be brought ho with much respect.
So when she appeared out of nowhere, she really put in a tough spot. I knew that seeing her would make Iris angry again, and it would cause strain in our relationship to the point where she would refuse to take dicine from .
Then, when I was about to reject Lara, she passed out. I had to take her to the hospital. Thankfully, Walkin volunteered. My mother went with her because, in her mind, Lara was the perfect mate for .
I stayed in my office, thinking about the plans ahead.
"You called for ?" Zoe asked, knocking on the door of my office before walking in when I gave her a nod.
The door was already ajar, so she could see sitting behind the table, lost in thought.
"Never mind, sit. Sorry," I told her, gesturing toward the chair.
She quickly moved to the seat and sat down, smiling at .
"What is it?" she asked, not looking very concerned about the earlier drama.
"I was expecting you to co and convince not to let Lara go," I began, realizing that even if I had doubts, Iris’s words about my mother and sister were true.
I believed that after Iris returned, my sister and mother did not like her. The excuse they gave was that Iris had once run away, breaking their hearts when she hid the children from them.
Although their anger was justified to so extent, they could not completely ignore the fact that their brother, their son, was at fault for pushing her away.
I had a hard ti believing that they had abused her so much that she refused to let the children stay with them.
"Do you care for ?" I asked Zoe, playing with a paperweight.
Her smile slowly faded, replaced by a look of concern.
"Kash, you know I do," she replied, sounding hurt that I even asked.
"I need your help," I told her.
"Wait. If this is about Lara, I’m not going to suggest anything," Zoe said quickly. "I used to like her a lot, but to be honest, recently I found out I was wrong about her. She’s manipulative."
She started talking rapidly, sharing her thoughts about Lara.
"It’s not about Lara," I paused, shifting in my seat.
"Then if it’s about Iris, I have no problem with her," Zoe said, straightening her posture.
"No. I just want you to take my kids to the kitchen and prepare so food," I explained. "Make them prepare a drink for Iris so she’s well fed. She’s not eating anything from . I’m sure she will not take sothing from your hands either."
I explained the plan to her without ntioning the pearl, making it seem like I wanted to involve my children in an activity that would distract them from the drama in the mansion and also help Iris eat sothing. At the sa ti, I knew I could not give the pearl to Zoe.
"I can do that. That will be okay," Zoe replied.
As she stood up from her seat, she turned to look at .
"I know Mom and I said we were upset with her, but why would you think Iris wouldn’t take anything from my hand?" Zoe asked.
Of course, she picked up on the small details and noticed the words I used.
I silently looked at her and then shrugged, still rolling the paperweight while rotating the chair to the other side, giving her only my side view.
"Did Iris say sothing to you?" Zoe asked.
The slight hesitation she showed was enough for to realize that there was indeed sothing going on.
"No, but is there anything I need to know?" I asked, pulling my hand away from the paperweight and resting it on the armrest of the chair.
"No," Zoe replied, shaking her head. "I’ll be in the kitchen. I’ll let you know when the food is ready, okay?"
She spoke while nervously fidgeting with her fingers before walking toward the door.
I noticed her agitation, and it did not sit well with . It was not easy for to believe what Iris had said, because if it were proven true, I would never be able to trust the people around .
I would never be able to trust my own judgnt. I found myself truly incompetent for not being able to protect my wife.
After a few minutes, a maid inford that Zoe was asking for in the kitchen. They must have prepared the food.
I grabbed the pendant, pulled the pearl out, and walked out of my office, heading straight to the kitchen where my children were.
"Your Highness," another warrior snapped out of my thoughts as I had just left my office.
I turned to him and gave a nod, silently asking what he needed to talk about.
"Your mother called," he stated softly, quickly lowering his head when he noticed the look on my face.
"What is it?" I asked him.
"She wants food to be sent to the hospital," he replied. "She also asked to tell you that she wants you to co to the hospital. She wants to speak with you."
As he finished, I frowned in confusion. It was the kind of confusion that ca from the fact that I had already told my mother that I did not want Lara in my life. So why was she asking to co to the hospital again? Did she not know that once I made a decision, I never backed down from it?
It seed like they were going to try and make keep Lara in my life.
