Iris:
"I really don’t understand anything," Jas said to , looking extrely guilty.
I felt bad seeing him like that. It wasn’t right that he had to carry the burden of what Luca had done.
"You don’t need to feel guilty. I know you had nothing to do with this. You had no part in it," I repeated, trying to calm him down.
But he kept avoiding my gaze, as if I had accused him too.
"She keeps telling you again and again that she trusts you completely," my father added, stepping in to calm Jas.
"Yes, but that doesn’t change the fact that my son did all of this," Jas replied.
Seeing the pain in his eyes made feel truly awful.
I couldn’t understand why Luca had stooped so low. What was he lacking?
Then it hit . This wasn’t the first ti. He had been hinting at this for a while. Even when we were in the East, Luca had only pretended to be on our side.
I just couldn’t understand what he gained from doing all this.
"I want to talk to him," Jas said angrily, striking his fist against his palm.
"You will be allowed to et him. For now, they are interrogating him and carrying out the investigation," I said to Jas, giving him a gentle nod.
But no matter what I said, it was clear nothing could calm him down. His son had truly let him down.
"I’ll go to the jail as well. I need to talk to him myself. Whatever he says, I’ll co back and tell you," I said to Jas.
Then I signaled my father with my eyes, asking him to stay with Jas. He looked like he was having a hard ti.
"Alright, go talk to him," my father said with a nod.
When I stepped out of the room, I saw Lady Vivian and Lara in the living room. They were clearly waiting for .
"I know you want to talk, but please, not right now," I requested before they could say anything.
"Why not right now?" Lady Vivian demanded, her tone sharp and aggressive.
"Because I don’t have any answers yet. I’m going to talk to him myself. Whatever I find out, I’ll tell you," I said, trying to walk past them.
But Lady Vivian stepped in front of , blocking my way.
"You must know sothing. How is it possible that he did sothing so wrong and none of you had any idea?" she scoffed.
"Or is it that my son, who is very capable, knew everything, and you convinced him to ignore it, saying Luca was just acting suspicious for no reason?"
Lady Vivian began accusing .
"I already said what I had to say. I’ll repeat it. I don’t have any answers right now," I responded harshly.
This ti, I had had enough. I was already under imnse stress. My children and I had been attacked. We were the targets, and we had done nothing wrong.
Lady Vivian stared at as if questioning how I had the audacity to argue with her after everything that had happened.
"Now, please step aside. I have so work to do," I said, sidestepping them and finally walking past them.
As I reached the exit, my children, who had been playing in the garden with Zoe and the Walkin, ran toward with balloons in their hands.
"Mummy, Mummy, where is Uncle Luca?" Colin asked, tugging on my dress.
"Um, he left for so work. Why?" I replied, confused.
I rembered I had told Zoe to make sure they didn’t see anything, so their question left unsettled.
"Actually, Auntie Laura said that Uncle Luca is a bad man. She said he was the one who tried to hurt us. I don’t think that is true."
The way my daughter’s lips curled down as she said that made clench my fist.
My eyes shifted to Zoe, who looked apologetic for her Lara’s actions.
"I am so sorry," Zoe mouthed. "I couldn’t stop them in ti."
I gave her a slight nod to show I wasn’t holding her responsible for what happened. In the end, it was her mother’s fault, and Lara’s.
"I’m going to look into this, okay? I’ll find out whether your Uncle Luca is innocent or not. Until then, stay with Zoe. Do not trust anyone else, you hear ?" I told them.
As I said that, I looked at Zoe. There was a soft smile on her lips, but she quickly composed herself. Still, I could tell she was relieved that I trusted her with my children.
Honestly, she had never given a reason not to.
After that, I left my children with Zoe and headed toward the car. Kash was already at the jail with Luca, and I couldn’t stop worrying about what might be happening there.
"What do you think?" I asked my Lycan.
It felt strange. I had never spoken to her before. Now that we had started communicating, everything about it felt unfamiliar.
"From all the evidence presented, Luca is guilty of sothing. However, there is only proof that he lied about being captive in the Lycan community. As for being here, I’m not sure what role he played. I suppose he will have to confess first," she added.
I nodded. Ivy was composed, and I liked that about her.
When we arrived at the prison, Kash’s warriors were already waiting outside. They let us in, and I walked down the corridors, passing cells filled with criminals on either side.
Finally, I reached Luca’s cell.
Thankfully, Kash had not beaten him. Usually, that was how they forced information out of soone.
He had waited for to ask him myself why he did what he did.
Kash was in the cell when I arrived. He looked at , then turned to Luca.
He stepped outside and called for the warriors.
"Bring him to the interrogation room," he commanded, wrapping his arm around my back as he led down the corridor toward it.
