Iris:
"Please wait here."
An Oga maid asked to stay in the living room while she went to fetch Kash.
I knew it was going to be difficult to talk to him after what happened at the shooting range.
He had said he was done with , and I knew Kash, once he stopped caring about soone, he could be arrogant and cruel, saying things that cut deeper than anything else could.
While I waited in the living room, another maid ntioned that the family was having breakfast and that Lara would be staying over.
From what I heard, she wasn’t going to share Kash’s bedroom, or maybe I was wrong. Maybe things would change tonight.
Then again, why would they? They were already together. It made no sense.
It wasn’t like they hadn’t been intimate, they had been, even back when I lived with Kash.
Maybe they had argued or sothing.
Finally, Kash arrived. He was dressed in black shorts and a sleeveless black shirt that showed his muscles.
He looked relaxed, his hands tucked into his pockets, but there was a tired expression on his face and tension in his shoulders.
"What is it?" he asked in a weary tone, one that made hesitate before answering.
"I needed to speak with you."
I had barely said that when soone else walked in, stealing his attention.
"And then we can also have a lot of lilies, because I love lilies," Lara was saying to Lady Vivian as she entered.
Her words trailed off when she saw , and a taunting smile curved her lips.
"What are you here for?" she asked, while Kash walked to the other side of the living room to pour himself a glass of wine.
It grew tense with his family present, and Lady Vivian already looked like she wanted to confront .
"You know, Lara, the other day I went over to her ho to see the children, my grandchildren, and she practically kicked out."
As soon as Lady Vivian said that, I saw Kash’s muscles tense.
"She kicked you out?" he asked, referring to . I rolled my eyes and let out a tired sigh, dropping my hands.
"Well, it’s fine. I’m not complaining. It’s no surprise that she’s rude."
His mother lifted a hand toward him, motioning for him to calm down.
It upset because I realized it was my fault to begin with.
There were days when Kash would ask why I was so upset, and instead of telling him the truth about his family, I would praise them.
I wanted to stay in their good books, and I appreciated even their smallest gestures.
But deep down, I didn’t know why I was so afraid of them.
Back when Kash used to protect from everything, he would constantly ask about my bruises, and I would co up with stupid excuses, promising him that I was fine.
It had always been my fault.
"What are you here for now?" Lady Vivian asked again, while Kash took a sip of wine and started walking toward .
But before he could speak, his mother continued questioning .
"I wanted to talk to Kash about business," I said, pausing briefly, taking in a deep breath to steady myself before lying.
"You know, I really hate when Kash brings office work ho. Can it not be dealt with at the office?" Lara complained, and I secretly clenched my fists under my arm.
I had to act a certain way because they were keeping their composure, and if I lost mine, I would be the one who looked like the problem.
That had happened to far too many tis before. I needed to stay smart this ti.
"No, actually, it’s pretty important. It’s about sothing he cares about."
As soon as I said that, I saw Kash finally turn toward from the couch and pay attention.
"Mother, Lara, can you two please give us a mont?" he asked politely.
"It’s okay. You two can talk. We won’t bother you," his mother insisted as she sat back down.
I began to panic because I needed him to understand how crucial it was for us to get our hands on the Blue River water.
"I’m not going to talk in front of them."
Before Kash could say anything, I snapped and that was where I ssed up, because it didn’t look good to him.
He respected his mother deeply.
"I trust my mother. It’s fine. You can talk in front of her," he said, making narrow my eyes at him in disbelief.
Did he not understand what I ant when I said it was about sothing he cared about?
"You know what? We’ll talk in the office tomorrow, then. That’s it. I shouldn’t have even co here."
I stood up and began to walk away.
"She’s so arrogant. You’d think that if she wanted to talk about sothing, she’d at least use a nice tone. But no! she always has to have the upper hand."
I wasn’t even out of the mansion before Lara started talking about , and I was already upset.
I had just stepped outside when I heard soone coming after .
"What is it? What did you want to talk about?"
I turned around to see Kash standing at the doorway, his hands still in his shorts pockets, the wine glass gone.
"It’s about Colin."
I had only said that much when Lara, Lady Vivian, and Zoe all stepped outside.
"Co on, Kash, get inside! We were talking about sothing important and she barged in," Lara complained, no longer bothering to sound polite.
Earlier, when we had been inside, they’d stayed calm because they thought Kash wouldn’t talk to .
But the mont he ca out to ask what I wanted, all hell broke loose.
"You know what, Kash? I’ll take care of my children. Don’t worry."
Sothing in snapped.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
I shouldn’t have to keep begging just to speak with him.
He knew why I was there.
