Aria’s POV
My first concern was Lana. I ran my hands over her tiny arms, her cheeks, her neck. There were no bites, no scratches, just frightened breaths and trembling lips.
Thank the Moon Goddess.
Only when she I made sure she was safe did the sting of my own wounds finally hit . My arms throbbed, the sll of my blood filled the air. When I looked down, I saw the scraped skin and the small droplets on the ground. The sight made Alpha Rowland’s jaw tighten.
His earlier laid-back attitude evaporated completely. Now, he radiated cold, lethal fury.
Then he caught my gaze and forced himself to soften.
“Don’t be scared. I’m taking you to the hospital,” he murmured, though his brow was drawn tight. His eyes flicked to the cuts on my arms, and sothing in him snapped again.
The man took one look at his expression and bolted. Alpha Rowland didn’t even glance his way, all his focus was on .
He made the call so fast I barely heard the details. Minutes later, an ambulance screeched to a stop beside us.
The pain made wince, but I still couldn’t help smiling when Alpha Rowland all but hovered over . “You’re being dramatic,” I muttered.
“No,” he said firmly. “I’m being responsible.”
Before I could stop him, he scooped and Lana into his arms with effortless strength. Lana squealed happily, clapping. “Up! Up! Up”.
Of course she thought it was fun. My face burned.
“H-hey—put down!” I tried wriggling free, but his grip only tightened. He wasn’t letting go.
He set us gently on the stretcher, only then did he step back, though his eyes never left .
I covered my face in my hands on the way to the ambulance.
Inside, the dics imdiately started cleaning the cuts. Sand and gravel were picked from the torn flesh, revealing raw, angry skin. The disinfectant stung like fire, and I hissed.
Alpha Rowland’s face stayed emotionless, but his eyes...His eyes were a storm.
His wolf was flickering in them from ti to ti as if wanting to co out.
The tension in the ambulance was thick enough to choke on. I bit my lip and whispered, “It’s just a scratch. Calling an ambulance, using all this dical equipnt... isn’t this too much?”
“It’s a VIP ergency unit,” he said, dismissing my concern with a wave of his hand. “You are going to a private hospital. It is part of special service. You don’t need to worry.”
Hearing Alpha Rowland’s explanation, I nodded and didn’t argue further.
That was just the way this world worked. Money, power, status... they always ca with their own set of advantages.
A strange feeling tugged at .
Like I owed this man, this stranger, sothing.
Silence settled over us. I didn’t know what to say, and Alpha Rowland wasn’t offering anything either.
The warm, playful energy he’d shown when we first t had vanished. Now he carried himself with the cool restraint of a noble-born Alpha heir. His aura sharpened, flaring around him like a blade. His eyes narrowed. They were cold and predatory and I saw the muscles in his arms tense as he clenched his fists.
He was probably replaying the mont the dog attacked. Re-evaluating the details he missed.
Our gazes locked, and an understanding flickered within . He probably thought the sa too.
This wasn’t random.
The first outburst could have been an accident. But the second? The timing? The sudden frenzy?, The man running like he already knew what was coming?
No.
That had soone’s hand all over it.
A chill crept into my bones. My instincts clawed at , whispering warnings I couldn’t fully grasp. I felt like I was missing a crucial piece of the puzzle and the more I tried to reach for it, the more my heart began to race.
Alpha Rowland broke the silence first.
“We will get you to the hospital where you will heal. Focus on yourself and your child. I’ll look into this.”
His voice dropped lower. His posture shifted slightly, shoulders hunching, muscles coiling like a predator about to pounce.
“No,” I said imdiately, tightening my hold around Lana. “I want in, too.”
The words snapped out of before I could stop them.
Everything that happened today... nothing felt like coincidence anymore. The more I thought about it, the more the anxiety twisted tighter in my chest.
Is soone targeting us? Targeting Lana and ? Moon Goddess, please let be wrong...
The ambulance pulled straight into the private ward entrance of the hospital. Before I even reached for the door, Alpha Rowland leaned forward and suddenly I was in the air.
He scooped into his arms like I weighed nothing.
My eyes nearly jumped out of my skull. “What—HEY! What are you doing?!”
He paused, then gave that devastatingly quiet smile.
“Hold still,” he murmured, his voice dropping into a deep, velvety rumble that sent shivers all the way down my spine. “You’re light as a feather.”
My face burned hot. He sounded like he was whispering straight into my soul.
“Put down!” I smacked his arm, not hard, but enough to get his attention.
This guy might feel strangely familiar, but he was still technically a stranger.
Sothing in my expression must’ve reached him, because he finally nodded and gently set on my feet. Relief washed through when my boots hit the floor.
Then a scent hit my nose. The scent of
blood, except it was not coming from .
I snapped my eyes to him. “Alpha Rowland, are you hurt?”
