Nathan’s POV

There was silence. The person on the other end of the line, as if sensing sothing was amiss didn’t speak.

“Who is this?” I growled.

At my words, the person hung up imdiately.

My gaze locked onto the nanny as I tossed her aside. Sweat broke out across her forehead, her hands shaking. My wolf bared its teeth, sensing a rat scrambling for cover.

She forced a flattering, sycophantic smile. “It must have been a prank call,” she said, rubbing her palms together nervously. “Is there... sothing you need from , Alpha Nathan?”

My eyes flicked to her face. Before I could speak, Collins stepped forward, tablet in hand. With a swipe, he turned the screen toward her.

A frozen image blood on the display. It was an image of her eting a shadowy figure near the side gate, their heads bent close together.

“Do you recognize this person?” Collins asked calmly.

The nanny glanced at the screen and then quickly looked away, shaking her head too fast.

“Yes, I do.”

Collins shot a look. Even I was mildly surprised. Confessions rarely ca this easily.

I leaned forward slightly, letting my Alpha aura seep into the room, heavy and crushing. “Alright,” I said coolly. “What were you discussing during that eting? Or should I ask, what were you planning?”

The pressure was too much.

Her knees hit the floor with a dull thud as she collapsed, sobbing. “Alpha Nathan, please punish ! Luna Aria scolded , and I... I held a grudge. I contacted outsiders in my quest to harm Ms. Lana out of spite.”

My wolf snarled.

“What did they offer you?” My voice dropped, turning glacial.

“They... they gave a packet of fine salt.” She swallowed hard. “They told just a little bit would...”

She stopped. Slowly, she looked up at .

Whatever she saw on my face made her recoil in terror. My wolf surged forward, furious, claws scraping inside my bones.

I suppress the urge to tear her throat out.

Collins yanked her up by the arm, rage blazing through his usually controlled expression. “You’re just a nanny hired to take care of Ms. Lana,” he snarled, “and you dared to harm her over petty jealousy?”

The nanny’s face drained of all color. No words ca.

Collins threw her back to the floor. She trembled violently, shaking like prey at a beta’s feet.

She must have thought she’d escaped the worst.

Then I stepped forward, stopping inches from her trembling hands. I stood before her, the room falling into a suffocating silence.

“Contact the enforcers,” I said calmly. “Report an attempted murder.”

The finality in my tone shattered her.

“No—Alpha Nathan!” She collapsed forward, clawing at the floor. “I was montarily possessed! Please, have rcy! My elderly parents depend on —I can’t go to jail!”

She sobbed like a soaked stray cat, dignity torn to shreds.

I felt nothing, neither did Collins.

“When you tried to harm Ms. Lana,” Collins said coldly, “did you think about your family? Did you consider the consequences?”

Her eyes went blank with despair. Minutes later, sirens wailed in the distance.

Soon, the door opened. The lead officer, chest heavy with dals, nodded respectfully to before hauling the nanny up and snapping cold steel around her wrists.

Her cries echoed down the hallway as she was dragged away.

When the police car finally pulled out of the villa, everywhere grew eerily quiet.

My gaze darkened.

Collins cursed under his breath. “She must be insane to do sothing so vile to Ms. Lana. She looked harmless, but her heart was rotten with jealousy.”

One look from silenced him.

Hemsworth Villa returned to its usual stillness.

I didn’t go to the office.

Instead, I went straight to the hospital.

The sterile scent hit the mont I stepped inside. Aria and Lana’s room was dimly lit. I placed a bouquet on the bedside table out of habit, my movents smooth.

“How’s the recovery?” I asked Aria.

Aria’s bright smile faded almost instantly as she saw . She barely spared the flowers a glance.

The silence stretched, heavy and awkward, broken only by the noisy sucking sounds as Lana drank her formula.

I remained standing, a sigh pressing against my ribs. Aria’s hostility was sothing I’d long since learned to endure.

I pulled a chair closer and sat.

“The person behind the attempt on Lana has been identified,” I said.

Aria’s brows raised with curiosity.

“Who?” Her voice was hoarse.

Even I felt a chill at that single word.

“The nanny.”

She scoffed, her eyes sharp as drawn blades. “Alpha Nathan,” she said, addressing formally. “Do you really believe a re nanny would dare act against Lana on her own?”

I frowned. My wolf stirred, uneasy.

“What do you an?”

“What about Sophia?” Aria pressed. “Have you investigated her?”
