Nathan’s POV
I had my driver follow after Aria’s car. She arrived at a hotel and checked in. I waited until she left the reception before I stepped into the hotel.
I t the receptionist. She stared at as though I was familiar and she was trying to rember . I presented my I.D card to her and her brows lifted in shock.
Just then, my driver approached , "Alpha Nathan, are you staying at this hotel? We booked you a reservation at Duckspire’s largest, most luxurious hotel..."
I gave him a cold glance that made him imdiately shut up and shrink back.
"Check in." I said to the receptionist, my voice was deep, my gaze icy.
She imdiately nodded and did as instructed.
My eyes softened when I was being led to my room and I noticed light emanating from the room on the second floor. That had to be Aria’s room. I can feel her energy from where I stood.
I already knew my arrival wouldn’t make her happy.
The mont my boots touched Duckspire soil, my wolf understood it too. This wasn’t a triumphant arrival, nor a reunion under a full moon. It was just another step taken too late, another gesture that soothed only .
I’d always been disciplined and controlled. An Alpha who weighed every move, every word, every consequence. Acting on impulse like this...chasing Aria across countries, across territories...wasn’t like at all.
And yet, here I was.
I lowered my eyes, letting the hotel’s dim light wash over my hands. My claws threatened beneath the skin, restrained only by habit and pride.
My thoughts, unbidden, drifted back to the man who had appeared at Aria’s side.
That pale, unfamiliar presence. I could sense an Alpha energy about him but I couldn’t quite tell which pack he belonged to. To say I wasn’t jealous would be a lie.
They were strangers, complete strangers. And yet he was allowed to trail after her, like he belonged there. She didn’t bare her teeth at him. Didn’t shut him down with that cold, distant look she reserved for .
She even let him stay.
But ?
Her ex husband. Her forr mate by law, by bond, by moons shared and battles survived. All I received was disgust, resistance and rejection so sharp my wolf still flinched from it.
My eyes dimd, sothing heavy settling behind them.
Once, she had looked at like I was her world. Like my presence alone was enough to steady her heartbeat.
Now, even my shadow repelled her.
"Alpha Nathan, I hope you like your room."
The voice cut through my thoughts. The woman who led to my room had opened the door.
I walked in without hesitation. I pushed the ache in my chest down, burying it deep where Alphas learned to hide weakness.
The jealousy, the regret, the longing...All of it was sealed away.
When I looked up again, only cold indifference remained, scattered and sharp as frost.
