Nathan’s POV
I covered my face with my hand.
Send it to her? Proof that I destroyed her life over lies?
What right did I have to hand her the truth now, like it was so kind of gift? I swallowed the bitterness.
“Send it to Alia,” I said at last, my voice turning to steel. “She’ll handle it professionally.”
Emotion was a luxury I didn’t deserve.
“Continue investigating Sophia and Richard. Every movent and every contact they make”
My wolf’s grief shifted.
“And Cowen Group...” I murmured, my eyes lifting, the city reflected darkly in the glass behind Collins. “They’ve fed off Hemsworth Group’s losses long enough.”
Predators had circled while I was blind. That ends now.
“It’s ti to take control.”
Collins nodded and left quickly.
The air in the room had changed. Grief was still there. But beneath it, there was a wounded alpha who had let his mate be hunted.
And now?
Now the hunt was mine.
Aria’s POV
I was in my ho in Shevron Estate when I heard a sharp knock on my door. It ca sharp and urgent.
“Aria!”
My wolf’s head snapped up before I even moved.
It was barely dawn. I opened the door.
Alia stood there, her breath uneven, her eyes tight. That alone made my stomach sink. Alia didn’t panic. Alia was the kind of wolf who could discuss contracts during a fire.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, guiding her inside, my palm brushing her arm in reassurance.
She sat, exhaled, then pulled out her tablet. The glow lit her tense face.
“The case about you stealing Hemsworth Group’s secrets... there are new developnts.”
My fingers curled slowly against my palm and my wolf went still. She turned the screen toward and scrolled.
I saw Images, tistamps and access logs.
It showed entering archive room and leaving.
Another na was highlighted.
Sophia.
My eyes sharpened as I watched.
“Where did you get this?” I asked quietly.
“Nathan reopened the investigation. Collins brought it to , he said it would help clear your na.”
I bit the inside of my lip. It has been almost two years, two year too late.
I handed the tablet back to Alia “Now we have answers,” I said, my voice flat. “What good does that do?”
Alia’s hand squeezed my shoulder. “You went through hell. But you have a good life now. Ti can’t be reversed and the people who frad you are still free.”
My gaze lowered.
“I know,” I said. My wolf’s ears flattened.
“I won’t let them get away with it.”
Alia frowned. “Then why don’t you look relieved?”
I smiled faintly. “I was frad and jailed in one day,” I said. “One day. I had no chance to fight, no chance to speak.”
My eyes felt colder than winter.
“Now he’s investigating the past. For what?”
Alia went quiet. She understood. Too late wasn’t justice, it was regret.
The doorbell rang. Both of us looked up. Alia went to the door.
I didn’t need to see who it was, I could slled him.
Collins.
Another scent him , but it was a bit stronger...
Nathan.
My wolf stiffened instantly. A thousand mories flooded in one breath.
Alia opened the door.
“Is Ms.Aria here?” Collins asked.
Even through walls, Nathan’s Alpha and dominant presence pressed into the air like an approaching storm.
But his scent was a bit different. It was filled with guilt and anguish.
Bang!
Alia slamd the door. I blinked, even my wolf was impressed.
“Don’t et them,” Alia said firmly as she turned to .
From outside, Nathan’s voice ca through the wood. “Aria, I’m here to apologize.”
My wolf stirred, uneasy. Apology? That word ant nothing to a wolf who had survived a cage.
“I’m calling Chloe,” Alia muttered.
I laughed softly. Alia in full guard-dog mode was oddly comforting.
I wasn’t that girl anymore. The one who allowed a man treat as though I was insignificant. The one who believed my love for him would change everything. Friends mattered to now, not an ex-mate who realized the truth two years too late.
Chloe’s furious voice exploded through the phone as Alia briefed her on what was happening.
I walked to the door quietly and looked through the peephole. Nathan stood straight, Collins beside him.He didn’t look angry, he looked... worn.
I stepped back.
No, I can’t et him.
“Guys, what’s going on?” Logan’s sleepy voice ca from behind us. I turned. His hair was ssy, his eyes half-closed. He was completely unaware of emotional warfare at the door.
Alia winced. I just shrugged.
He looked between us suspiciously. “Were you talking about ?”
“Of course not,” Alia said smoothly.
“Really?”
“Really.”
He finally let it go. “So what’s happening outside?”
I tilted my head toward the door. “My ex-husband is outside. He’s here to apologize.”
