Third POV
“In an ordinary case, yes,” Benjamin agreed with a nod. “Fated mates are bonded, and just because you have been stripped of a title doesn’t an that you will be separated from your mate.”
Hazel pursed her lips, holding her breath.
“However, the title you’re holding is that of the Alpha’s most important partner,” Percy snapped. “The Luna isn’t just the Alpha’s life partner, but also his business partner. Your actions will influence his, and by extension, the way the pack is run and the well-being of the pack.”
“And how have my actions as a mate negatively influenced anything?” Hazel asked. She was positively fuming. She already had a good guess where all of this ca from.
Even if she were an unfit Luna, Hazel knew that she was a suitable mate. She had provided Asher with a son—an heir. As the Alpha couple, they needed biological children to inherit the position more than anything. This had always been the way of life Hazel knew, especially due to her Beta lineage.
After Estelle had made it very clear that she wasn’t going to be coming back, Hazel had tried to let out hints that Finn was her biological son.
And it worked. Rumors spread quickly, and she was positive that even Jessie and Ashley caught wind of it. After all, the council knew of it as well. There was no way a gossipmonger such as Jessie Daniels wouldn’t know.
“The Alpha’s mother, the forr Luna Jessie, has filed an official complaint, requesting your expulsion from the pack,” Percy coldly said.
“Asher’s mother...” Hazel muttered under her breath.
Her suspicion was right. Jessie Daniels had never liked her and always believed that she was unsuitable to marry her son, just because Asher was Hazel’s second chance mate. However, second chance or not, they were still fated to each other.
Unfortunately, Jessie didn’t see it that way. To Jessie, Hazel was “used goods”. It didn’t matter to her whether or not Asher was happy. All Jessie cared about was what she wanted, so much so that she was willing to go against the Moon Goddess’s design and sche for Estelle and Asher’s marriage.
Thankfully, Asher had never properly marked Estelle. That was how Hazel could get rid of Estelle so easily and reclaim her rightful position by Asher’s side.
However, things had gone so wrong. Neither Asher nor Hazel had expected Estelle to leave so early in their plans. Moonveil wasn’t stable yet, and Hazel hadn’t properly learned the ropes of leading a pack.
If Hazel just had a little more ti to sap out more information and worth from Estelle, no one would question that she, Hazel Banner, was the rightful Luna and mate of Alpha Asher Daniels.
Not even Jessie would be able to sway the pack’s opinion then.
However, that was just a pipe dream now that Estelle had already left before Asher could properly boot her out.
Panic rose in Hazel’s chest. “Asher’s mother has been spreading lies about ! She never wanted as Luna due to her own personal vendettas.”
“Perhaps,” Percy said. “But she’s not alone. Several pack mbers have co forward with concerns about your leadership.”
“What concerns?” Hazel demanded.
“Poor financial decisions, failed negotiations, and favoritism in pack assignnts,” Percy listed. “The list is extensive.”
Hazel’s hands shook with anger and fear.
“So of the pack’s strongest mbers in various sectors have all left the pack because of your poor leadership,” Benjamin said. “They won’t be the last as well. There have been other pack mbers who have threatened to leave Moonveil if you remain as Luna. We cannot afford to lose more mbers, especially when Moonveil is short on hand as it is.”
“You’re asking to abandon my mate and son!” Hazel cried out.
“We’re asking you to do what’s best for the pack,” Percy replied coldly.
Hazel felt tears of rage burning her eyes. “I won’t leave. You can’t make .”
The council mbers exchanged glances. Their expressions grew even more severe.
One of them threw a file on the table. It slapped harshly as it landed and slid across the surface to where Hazel was seated.
“Let’s not make things too difficult for everyone,” he said. “Sign this to declare that you’ll be leaving Moonveil on your own accord. We will provide you with so compensation so that you may start a new life sowhere else.”
Hazel took the file with trembling hands. She flipped open the cover, her eyes scanning across the docunt. With each new line she read, she felt her anger rise even further.
As the councilman had said, it was a declaration to renounce the role of Luna, and that Hazel would be leaving the Moonveil Pack voluntarily. Normally, there wasn’t a need for such formalities, but they were worried that Hazel would co back again.
In addition to the first declaration, there was another docunt that said that if Hazel returned to the Moonveil Pack or kept in contact with Asher or even Finn, she would have to return the damages caused to the pack during her ti as the Luna.
But that wasn’t the worst part. In the contract, it was also stated that she could be kept in the Moonveil Pack—or any other ally pack—as an oga servant for the rest of her life if she breached the terms.
Hazel shook her head, letting out a shaky laugh. Her entire body was trembling with fury now, and she scoffed in disbelief. Even her eyes were rimd red.
She slamd her hand on the surface of the table and stood up, the legs of her chair scraping against the floor to create a harsh sound.
“How dare you!” she scread. “Do you old fools really expect to sign such a ridiculous thing?!”
