Chapter 224: Episode 39 Antitina (Discharge 1 Update)_2

Seeing such a scene, Brand couldn’t help but stop. He used Azure Light Piercing to poke through the web-covered ceiling questioning, “Limp Man, what is this place? If I rember correctly, Bog Neson has been missing for years, but given his family background, he shouldn’t have fallen to such a state, should he?” He coughed as he spoke.

“His daughter moved out over a year ago, apparently because she was deceived,” Limp Man replied.

“Noble daughter,” Batom muttered.

Brand glanced at his neck and remained silent.

The three finally stopped in front of a door at the end of the hallway. Brand sheathed his sword and knocked. He almost suspected that the cunning old fox was deceiving him again, but shortly after a burst of violent coughing, a soft voice inquired from behind the door, “Who is it?”

Brand was startled and turned to ask, “Is she unwell?”

“Not sure,” Limp Man shook his head.

Brand thought for a mont and replied outside the door, “Miss Antitina, I am a friend of your father Mr. Neson. I have sothing of his to give you.”

There was a mont of silence behind the door, then the soft girl’s voice responded, “What is it?”

Brand took out the letter.

“His letter.”

There was a sound of a chair being moved and a long hesitation, followed by footsteps and soft coughing. The voice ca to the door and whispered expectantly, “Sorry, but could you slip the letter under the door?”

Brand looked at the gap under the door, thinking the girl was quite cautious. Considering her experiences living alone as a weak girl, he understood. He nodded and replied, “I understand—”

“Thank you.”

The letter slid under the door, accompanied by the rustling sound of the letter being opened. After a long silence, just when Brand was wondering what tricks the other party might be playing, the door creaked open.

A girl in moon-white pajamas stood behind.

Her slender hands held the door, slightly panting but still calm, not very tall, only reaching Brand’s chest. She had beautiful, waterfall-like black hair reflecting the dim candlelight in the room, creating a golden sheen—all the way down to her waist; she looked at the three outside the door with warm, watery black eyes, sowhat nervous.

“My father—?” Her gaze finally fell on Brand.

Brand nodded.

The girl’s thick, brush-like eyelashes lowered.

She thought and replied, “I should have expected it. But at least my parents are together now, which might give so peace.”

Antitina’s calmness surprised Brand. He thought she would be a fragile noble lady, incapable of handling such matters. His gaze drifted past the girl, looking at the cramped and dim room she lived in—an old bed and a desk, with the dim candlelight on the desk burning halfway down, reflecting scattered papers on the floor.

This was her entire possession.

The conditions were poor, as he had imagined. But is this girl a scholar? Brand wondered, seeing thick books on the desk.

“My condolences, Miss Antitina,” Brand thought and replied.

Antitina looked up at him, coughed twice, and asked, “Are you asking about the inheritance ntioned in my father’s letter, sir?”

Batom and Limp Man were bewildered.

“That’s correct,” Brand hesitated, then chose to be honest—completing a task for him was like making a transaction, and vice versa, he didn’t see any sha in it. Moreover, he believed obtaining this money would benefit both him and the lady.

But Antitina folded the letter, her lovely eyebrows furrowing slightly, “But my mother never ntioned such a place.”

“Debt—” Limp Man seed to catch on and beca energetic when the topic involved his old profession, “Brand, let handle this.”

He spoke shrilly, glancing at Brand’s expression. He recognized the forr young man had beco a notable figure now, especially with the tall rcenary beside him, who possessed remarkable skills. Limp Man couldn’t think of many people with such strength among the noble guards he knew—he couldn’t help but compare them, concluding the latter was superior.

Why would soone like that serve Brand willingly? Limp Man beca increasingly cautious.

“No need, Limp Man.” Brand waved off his offer.

“Pay the debt, it’s only right,” Limp Man muttered, but seeing Brand’s finger touch the sword hilt, he swallowed the rest of his words, still mumbling, “Every profession has its rules, every profession has its rules…”

Brand looked into the girl’s clear eyes, trying to discern if she was lying—her eyes showed so worry but didn’t seem deceitful. Yet leaving just like that felt unsatisfactory to Brand, making him frown. After much thought, he could only smile, “Alright, it’s fine. Just a small favor.”

Brand couldn’t agree with Limp Man’s approach; pushing soone to the verge for a little gain wasn’t right. Antitina had already lost both parents and lived a struggling life, evoking sympathy—what more could he ask of her? Of course, Limp Man had his ways, but if he did that, Little Roman would probably bite his head off, not to ntion Frey finding out would be disastrous.

The girl coughed but managed to straighten up and shook her head, “Sir, I don’t need your charity.”

Brand was stunned.

(PS: Discharged from the hospital after six days of infusion, costing 4000 yuan. The doctor chased out, saying it was Spring Festival, no beds available, co back for surgery in March. Damn the rotten system, comrades, take care of your health, pay attention to your diet and routine. Alas, such tragedy, I didn’t listen to the elders, now I suffer. The pain is unbearable, and for the next month or two, I can’t eat at, only porridge and vegetables, oh God…)(To be continued, for more please visit qidian, support the author, support legitimate reading!)
