Chapter 344: Act 92 The Dead and the King (7) (4th update, keep asking for support.)_2
Brand silently nodded.
The task was here, yet he suddenly realized he was not happy. In the ga, he was usually not affected by such scenes because he knew it was just an NPC, but here, he found himself unable to be cold-blooded.
“You…” Antitina gently probed, “Were you the knight before…?”
“… .” The Elf girl did not respond, silently nodded. Her arms and calves were already beginning to turn transparent. But she lifted her head and managed a smile, “I… killed so many people… Lord Martha must have abandoned …”
“That wasn’t your fault,” Brand replied. Historically, the Fla Temple indeed mishandled that incident, otherwise Lord Martha wouldn’t have been so furious. In fact, Erune’s national fortune had been on a decline ever since.
Moreover, he had almost figured out the entire story; it must have been so monks from the Fla Temple attempting to alter the contract between the ancient Silver Kings, Martha, and the Elf Goddess Shaye. Changing divine contracts was sothing Brand had done before; it wasn’t complicated, but extrely risky. Being a player, he naturally could bear it, but it was unclear where the Eruein people back then got such courage. The end result was the intrusion of Evil Spirits.
That led to a tragedy.
Presumably, the Evil Spirits controlled far more than just this little girl. Yet the high-ranking monks of the Fla Temple were not easy opponents. After an undocunted fierce battle, this temple vanished from all official historical records, remaining desolate till now.
“What’s your na?”
Even at this mont, Roman’s questions were still constructive, Brand noticed.
“I’m disha, my surna is New Moon,” the Elf girl answered.
“You’re not of royal blood?” Brand and Antitina both froze, asking in unison. The Silver Elf royalty shared the na with the Empire; the Haya Lan Royal Family was the purest among the Silver Clan. If one weren’t of pure royal lineage, they’d be unable to enter this royal tomb.
“Yes, I’m a craftsman’s daughter.”
“But this is the Silver Elf’s King’s Grave…” Antitina pressed.
This question left the Elf girl in a daze for a mont, half of her body gradually turning transparent, “Because of so special reasons…” she said.
“Special reasons? I heard the Silver Elves bury their greatest heroes alongside the ancient Kings…” The noble daughter recited bookish words while casting a suspicious look at the little girl, who hardly seed like a ‘great’ hero.
The Elf girl gently touched her unicorn, her expression softening, “It’s not exactly that; I’m actually here as a substitute.”
What?
Brand almost spat out his second mouthful of water. He’d heard of proxy exams, but not proxy tomb occupying. What was this? Proxy queueing?
Antitina, however, was quicker to catch on. The girl imdiately asked, “Death replacent? Or sacrifice?”
Brand froze; was this a soap opera developnt? He didn’t expect the always noble and elegant Silver Elves would do such things, seemingly similar to humans.
But the Elf girl shook her head, “I’m here voluntarily.”
“Voluntary?” Brand found it hard to believe.
The Elf girl smiled faintly, as if recalling sothing proud, “I… am here as a substitute… for my sister… no, for the Princess.”
As she spoke, her lower body had nearly turned invisible.
“Wait.” Brand interrupted her, “Sister? Princess? What’s the situation?”
“My mother is an Elf Master from Charol Village. But my father, he’s the Emperor of the Hayalan Empire. So, I suppose I’m half a Princess…”
“So your sister is the Princess of the Silver Elf Empire?”
The girl nodded.
“What happened?”
“My sister was cursed during a battle with the Miner people. The Court Mage told my father that unless soone with a blood relation dies in her place, she would remain weak until her death,” the Elf girl slowly recounted, “But my sister is the Empire’s most outstanding general. Neither the Dwarves, human allies, nor our people wish for that to happen…”
“So my father chose .”
Antitina frowned deeply, “He is your father, how could he do such a thing.”
But Brand held back the noble daughter; she didn’t understand the enormity of the Dark Dragon that the Four Saints faced in the Chaos Years. Every race paid a huge price to resist that entity. disha’s father, as the ruler of the Hayalan Empire, had to make such decisions.
He looked at the Elf girl, silent for a while, then asked, “Why are you telling us this?”
“Because… I need your help,” she replied.
As expected, Brand thought.
“What help?”
“The lizardn in the forest took my sister’s necklace from my tomb. I don’t know what they intend to do with it. Without that item, the curse cannot be fixed on ; I’m worried…”
Antitina, unable to help herself, interrupted, “You’re about to disappear, why worry about others!”
The Elf girl glanced at the noble daughter and smiled.
“Precisely because of that, I hope… my disappearance has… more aning…”
Antitina was taken aback.
“This is your matter; we have the right to refuse, right?” Brand asked again. Though reason told him to accept this task, for so reason, seeing this seemingly gentle girl, he felt a bit angry.
The girl lifted her head, her eyes flashed with cunning, “Humans… Sir, you’re here to seek the souls of the ancient Kings, aren’t you?”
Her body was nearly fully transparent now.
“You know?”
“The breeze in the valley, I can hear it all…” She closed her eyes, replied, “But to get the recognition of the ancient Kings, you must first get my recognition…”
“So, I want to make a trade with you.”
Being threatened by a little girl, Brand was both annoyed and amused. Turn his back? He looked at Antitina, Roman, and Hu Que, who all nodded.
“Alright, but I have one request,” Brand said, “I want to gain the help of the ancient Kings’ souls first. Otherwise, with our strength, facing those Lizardn thieves in the forest would be futile.”
The girl nodded.
“I’ve agreed,” she replied.
Brand froze, “You’re not worried I’ll back out?”
“Of course… worried,” the Elf girl was silent for a mont, then replied.
“Then why…”
Suddenly, the girl started coughing.
When she raised her head again, her face was full of tears, “I… of course worried. But… I also… don’t want to disappear… I have… things… to complete… I’m sorry, can you… help …?”
The wind in the mountains swept across the forest tops, seemingly bringing a distant wailing sound—
Everyone was stupefied at that mont, even though she had completely vanished. Yet the Elf girl’s final sobbing words seed to linger in everyone’s ears. Brand turned around to see the others, finding himself utterly speechless.
