Chapter 496: Act 164 The Gambler’s Roulette (3rd update, seeking subscription)_2

“But…”

“No buts, can we send a reply?” Yuta asked.

The young man shook his head: “Those Corpse Witches have silenced the entire street with Black Magic. Except for Light and Dark Elents, other Elents can’t get in. But we don’t have Wizards or Priests in our group. Our strongest Elental Mage only has Black Iron Power, and he can’t cast any Spells right now!”

“What about the signal arrow?”

“‘Rat’ said that it also relies on Elents to ignite.”

Yuta bit her lip, her deep gaze fixed on the other side of the street: “Then use our own thod, let’s buy so ti for the Lord.”

“Commander?”

But the woman’s expression had already turned serious. She was silent for a mont, then raised her head, turned around, and drew her thin sword, swinging it to the right: “Everyone listen up!”

“Soone has given us an answer with noble actions, but now we’ve broken our word. Luckily, we can still make up for it. So I now order you all to advance, at least hold those damned skeletons here—or let them trample over our corpses!”

There was a mont of silence on the street, only Yuta’s stern command echoed for a long ti. Everyone stopped what they were doing and instinctively looked at this commander.

“Answer , there are no cowards among my n.”

“No cowards!” The rcenaries raised their weapons.

The young man looked at Yuta dumbly, as if wanting to say sothing, but the Maid Corps Commander who had turned back cruelly interrupted him: “No need to speak, you know I never change my orders easily!”

“But Commander, why for a noble…”

Yuta smiled lightly.

She lowered her head and patted the young man’s cheek: “I know nobles better than you, kid. If that young man were truly a noble, he wouldn’t have killed Gruding; that’s their rule, and no one has broken it in the past centuries—”

She lifted her head, looking at the heavy night.

“But no matter who he is, from this mont on, my deal with him is over.”

The young man was montarily stunned.

At the South Gate, fierce battles continued. Under the supervision of the Great Commander of the Fire Earth Battle Group, rcenaries used nearly reckless ans to repeatedly engage in tug-of-war with the waves of Skull Army advancing like tides.

The war in the darkness seed endless, leaving everyone exhausted; looking around, one saw only a sea of connected white bones—humans and undead exchanged losses, bodies piled up like mountains, but the heavy price was just enough to maintain the battle line on the ruins.

Fortunately, the breach in the city wall was only about ten ters long, and most rcenaries with Black Iron Level could barely stop the undead army a hundred tis larger. In fact, the rcenaries knew this too, so they preferred to shed ten tis the blood to repeatedly fortify the breach area.

It was barely a battle, more like a tactless at grinder.

The commanders on both sides were like cold Death Gods, silently sending more lives into that ten-ter-long bloody battlefield. For Madara’s side, the Corpse Witches could emotionlessly push the skeletons with their weak Soul Fire onto the table like worthless chips.

And this was precisely what chilled humans the most.

“Crossbown ready—”

“Switch to blunt-headed arrows—”

Individual squad leaders acted as orderlies at this ti, watching the battle-hardened warriors uncork bottles of Holy Water and pour it onto bundles of arrows, feeling a bit heartbroken as they rarely used these consumables so extravagantly in ordinary battles.

The warriors raised their Four-Ard Crossbows in rows, aid, and fired.

Then with a sharp ‘whoosh,’ an invisible wall seed to sweep through rows of skeletons below, causing them to collapse suddenly and instantly turn into flying ashes amidst white light.

Fern, with one foot on a pile of bones and his sword resting on his shoulder with one hand, coldly sent his second squad up to replace the exhausted first squad. He then ordered a small rcenary group to carry the wounded off the city wall. To him, this battle seed endless, just like those he had experienced in Karasu.

Fern calmly directed, knowing exactly what Madara and he could do.

But at this mont, he also turned back, looking at the sparkling sky. He smiled as the glint reflected in his eyes: “A noble killing a noble, that’s worth the ticket price. But it’s the first ti I’ve seen them use sothing other than sches, poison, and assassinations; that young man is quite feral.”

“Those nobles will do anything,” his deputy replied beside him.

Fern glanced at him.

“You don’t understand,” he said. Then he asked, “How much longer?”

“Half an hour,” the deputy imdiately replied.

Fern waved his hand: “Go, raise our battle banner higher. Once we repel this attack, they’ll send in the Corpse Witches, that guy gave an answer, and I have to give him one back.”

“Dawn is near…” The Great Commander of the Fire Earth Battle Group looked at the horizon: “It’s almost ti.”

The deputy was slightly stunned.

But Fern smiled slightly: “This also counts as completing that guy’s first order. When the boss gives an order, we naturally obey.”

“The boss?”

“Let’s consider it that way.” Fern looked back at the battlefield.
