"Who exactly is that guy?"
After Brand left, the boys whispered among themselves. Maher was the first to speak; in fact, he had been against interacting with that mysterious guy from the start. But ever since Brand identified the location of the Cold Iron Vein and made a deal with them for a large sum of money, he had to admit, dealing with that guy did have its benefits.
Compared to Maher, Joka, who first dealt with Brand, was a bit worried. Thirteen thousand Thor was no small amount; he felt the whole thing was sowhat unreliable - the money ca too easily.
He couldn't help but turn his head to look at Kevan. This gentle boy was the most knowledgeable among them, and not only that, Kevan knew Magic.
Whenever they got injured in the Mining Area or during a Fistfight, Kevan would use a Spell to heal them. Although it wasn't as magical as the legendary spells that healed instantly, it was much more effective than herbal redies.
In essence, Kevan had naturally beco the leader of their group, even though Maher was a bit reluctant to accept this due to losing his position as the head.
"It's nothing." Kevan shook his head. "Keep digging. This has nothing to do with us."
As he finished speaking, a scream echoed from the mine.
It ca from the direction of one of their companions. Everyone's hearts tightened, and they looked over anxiously. Stories about mysterious happenings in the Dark pit were nurous, and even though no one had ever encountered anything, they were always wary of unexpected accidents.
But then they saw their companion running out hurriedly.
"Co and look at this," the boy called out urgently.
"What's the matter?" Kevan asked.
"Kevan, you'll know once you see it. I-I don't know what it is—"
Everyone was puzzled. Kevan exchanged a glance with the others and they all went over together. As they arrived, they were stunned.
Behind a deep blue vein, where the boy had been mining, the cracked rock revealed a silver edge.
That was definitely not rock or ore; it looked like sothing man-made.
The boy said nervously, "Look at this." He lifted his Cross Pickaxe, showing the others. The tip had been neatly sliced off, with a cut as smooth as a mirror.
"Did this thing do it?" Kevan frowned. He didn't recognize the object either.
The boy nodded.
"That's a Sword, it's so sharp!" Maher exclaid. "I've heard people say there are residents in the Underground World below us, and this must be their Weapon!"
"Maher, how could the Underground World residents' Weapon end up here?" soone objected.
"It's entirely possible. Haven't the monsters below co up here before?"
"Maher, you idiot, that's because workers opened a passage below." Even Joka couldn't tolerate the nonsense this ti. "But there was no passage here before we started digging, and this Sword is buried in the rock!"
At least he agreed with Maher's theory about the Sword.
Maher was about to argue back, but Kevan interrupted them. "Stop fighting, let's dig it out and see."
"Dig it out?" The girl was puzzled. "It's useless to us, Kevan. I feel uneasy, let's leave it here."
The boy hesitated, but seeing the shimring silver in the rock, his curiosity got the better of him. He thought Maher might be right, it was sothing left by the Underground World residents. He glanced at the sliced-off Cross Pickaxe—such a sharp Sword would surely be worth a fortune outside.
"Dig!" he said.
Everyone nodded. Their youthful curiosity eventually outweighed their fear of the unknown.

While Kevan, Maher, and Joka started to extract the strange 'Weapon' buried deep underground, a large-scale commotion was unfolding throughout the Mining Area.
A terrifying rumor was spreading among the miners, saying that monsters had been discovered in the lower layers of the mine. The news beca so believable that the overseers had to organize a squad of soldiers to delve into the mine and investigate what was really happening.
