To be precise, it beca even brighter.
It was as if they had suddenly returned to the surface. The bright and blinding light shot in from outside, causing every pair of eyes accustod to darkness to squint slightly. All around was a dazzling white, and their eyes stung slightly.
Qian and the miner instinctively turned their heads. Only the stronger Kulan and disha could steady themselves to look around, but they both imdiately let out a low exclamation.
The sounds around them suddenly grew louder.
It was a cheer like the roaring of a mountain and a raging sea, pouring into everyone's ears like a tide. And as everyone gradually adapted to the piercing light and the deafening shouts around them, they looked up and finally saw everything clearly.
They rembered that just a mont ago, they were in a dark underground tunnel, blocked by a heavy iron door. But now, they found themselves in a brightly lit plaza.
Or perhaps it was worse.
Upon looking further, everyone realized that this was not a plaza at all, but an arena. They stood in the central open ground, surrounded on all sides by towering walls and the stands above.
The stands were packed with people, but Brand, with the strong light behind him, could not see the faces of the spectators clearly. However, he knew that this was just an illusion from a spell.
An interspace.
This was the content of this boundary.
In terms of complexity, this space was far less mystifying than Fairyland, which existed in the gap between space and ti. It was just a half-plane connected to the Main Material Plane of Vorn World, a small sub-space.
But in terms of auditory and visual effects, it was indeed enough to make people dizzy.
He couldn't help but wonder which perverse person designed all of this.
"What is this place, my lord?" Qian finally steadied her mind and asked in a trembling voice. She was still better off; the miner was already scared stiff.
disha and the old man said nothing, but the forr was visibly calr while the latter looked vigilant, his hand on his sword.
"Fate Arena," Brand replied.
"Fate Arena? What is that?"
Brand raised his head, "Do you see that sword?" Following his question, everyone looked in the direction he was pointing, and sure enough, they saw a longsword embedded in a stele at the center of the arena.
The dark longsword reflected a faint glow under the glaring light, but its design was quite peculiar. It looked like a longsword, but it was as wide as a palm and far longer than an ordinary longsword—more like a combination of a two-handed greatsword and a longsword.
"What is that?" Kulan's eyebrow twitched when he saw the sword. As an old swordsman, he could tell that it was a very fine sword.
"The Earth Sword—Harangeya," disha answered. "I know this sword; it's a Silver Heritage of the Rune Dwarves."
"Yes, this is the Earth Sword—Harangeya, the legendary sword connected to the earth, whose swing can cause landslides and city collapses," Brand explained. Brand knew this sword by another na—players called it the Earthquake Sword, because the Earth Sword—Harangeya dealt an earthquake skill damage equal to its attack power with each strike.
The earthquake skill is an area-of-effect spell, covering a cone-shaped area directly in front, almost identical to the sword wind's direction and range. Though it consud mana, it was definitely worth it.
This thing was a divine artifact to Demon Swordsn, and even Brand's fingers twitched at the sight of the sword. For a swordsman, its allure was simply too great.
What's more, it also had a 'Leadership' attribute—
All 'Leadership' attributes typically appeared on equipnt with a distinct alignnt or attribute characteristic. For example, the Earth Sword's na indicated its connection with earth elents, thus it could lead those elent-like biological entities.
Brand finally understood how those Stone Leopards outside ca to be.
"Harangeya, Harangeya," the old man murmured. "Could it be that Harangeya, the weapon of the giant Miguel?"
Brand nodded. Miguel was Mother Earth's most beloved son, also the Crownless King of the earth. This sword, in the myth, was his scepter, his seal of rule over the earth.
Of course, this was just a legend, but it stirred sothing within Brand. He took a deep breath and answered, "Those who co here have a chance to obtain that sword through a challenge." He turned and looked at everyone sternly. "But it's not without a price. If you fail the challenge, you will turn to stone and remain here forever."
"This is the aning of the Fate Arena."
In truth, Brand felt a bit troubled. The Fate Arena was one of the more difficult tasks within the Ancient Heritage questline.
Yet as he was troubled, Kulan asked, "How difficult is the challenge?" The old man eyed the sword with interest. As an old swordsman, though he didn't fully understand what this place was, his skills and courage as soone with Golden Power prevented him from being scared pale like the miner, who still hadn't uttered a word.
"Extrely difficult," disha responded. "Because it exists between Fantasy and reality, the challenge difficulty here has no upper limit."
The phrase 'no upper limit' made everyone's face change. "My lord, what about us?" Qian asked.
The Silver Elf Princess shook her head, "There's no way to avoid it. Everyone must challenge at least once to earn the right to leave here."
"Everyone?" The old man keenly caught this word.
"Yes, unless one's power is below Black Iron, challenges here must be faced alone, not together."
Qian's face turned pale at this answer. "Then… if soone fails… what will happen?" She had no strength now; passing the challenge seed almost impossible.
"They will remain here, turning to stone until this boundary eventually fades, remaining statues forever," Brand interjected. "But as long as soone is willing to take on an extra challenge and succeeds, they can save their companion. Don't worry, Qian."
"My lord…" The red-haired girl was slightly stunned. She had, of course, understood the implication in Brand's words and couldn't help but look up at Brand with a complex expression. (To be continued. For more chapters, please visit qidian and support the author and genuine reading!)
