"No," Brand shook his head. "I just believe in history."
"History?" Kevan asked incredulously.
But Brand did not answer him. Instead, he raised his hand, and a gust of sword wind swept the Destiny Card on the ground towards him. He caught the 'Fire Claw Lord' card and said to himself:
"System Prompt: Reward obtained."
Then he smiled slightly.
"Lord?" disha noticed Brand's expression, puzzled. In her mind, Brand was not soone who would be pleased with such a trivial gain.
Brand did not answer her either. He just looked up at the center of the Duel Arena.
At the sa ti, the old dwarf was already there raising the Earth Sword with both hands — the voice in the sky echoed once more:
"Mortal, do you accept the challenge?"
"Of course!" Audem's words startled everyone.
But this ti the challenge did not co as expected. After a mont of silence, the voice in the sky asked: "From you, I seem to sense a familiar aura. Are you our descendant?"
"Yes, ancestors and souls of Chongshan," the old dwarf replied, head held high. "Like you, I am a child of mountains and rocks, of tal and fire. For thousands of years, we endured hardships in the wilderness, but we eventually overca countless challenges to co here, just to grant our souls a mont of peace —"
"Because this is our origin, my holand."
The Duel Arena was silent for a mont, then the voice roared:
"Peace? No, the ti has not co!" The voice thundered like rolling lightning, causing everyone to stumble: "Our descendants on the wildland, you must continue your journey until that mont cos when your souls can return to the Holy Temple!"
"The ti has co, ancestors and souls of Chongshan."
"Oh, really?"
Suddenly a voice ca from the space, making the entire space buzz.
The old dwarf hesitated for a mont, then glanced back at Brand with disbelief but still raised the Earth Sword in his hand.
"Dazz Motes Hremm!" The dwarf replied.
It was a strange language that Brand didn't recognize, but disha did. She frowned and explained to her Lord: "Order True Words, it seems to be a segnt from the Holy Covenant."
Brand of course knew what the so-called Holy Covenant was. It was the covenant signed with Lord Marsha by all wise beings on Earth against the Dragon of Twilight before the dark age. This covenant itself established the laws of order, reputedly from the ti before the Divine People, before this epoch.
It was during the period Brand often referred to as 'the aningless background'.
After the Holy Covenant, during the fight against the Dark Dragon, the forces of justice on Earth also signed another Holy Covenant. However, the agreent written in ancient language was far inferior to the original.
The Holy Covenant itself was an artifact symbolizing the law.
Yet after Audem uttered those words, the entire space imdiately shook, and everyone felt the space around them loosen — this indicated that the old dwarf wasn't deceiving them, and his thod worked!
But at this mont, amidst the space's buzz, Brand suddenly felt as if he was having hallucinations —
He saw so strange images appearing before him.
A black moon, a towering structure quietly standing in the middle of a pitch-black lake as if implying sothing...
The scene changed, showing a group of black-clad figures walking on the boundless wilderness...
Then he saw a line of black text —
XVI: THE TOWER —
The fallen 'Moon' has stolen the light.
He rembered seeing this line of text while escaping from Ridenburg, but under it appeared a brand new line:
XX: JUDGENT —
The light was lost.
The text continued to appear:
XVII: THE STAR —
The Silver Generation lost on the Earth, forging ahead in the dark and ignorance (seeking).
Then all visions disappeared, and Brand shook his head to clear his mind, seeing disha looking at him with concern. He nodded at the Silver Elf girl to indicate he was fine.
However, his glance shifted slightly and noticed Miss rchant cautiously edging towards him, as if wanting to express so concern but not daring to let him notice for fear of his wrath.
Seeing Romantic like this, Brand couldn't help but chuckle. He said to disha, "After all, we really ought to thank a certain soone this ti."
"Huh?" disha was slightly taken aback.
"Thanks to Little Roman for bringing us good luck," the young man turned his head, face stern, and caught the chubby little face of Miss rchant with astonishing speed. "Right, Little Roman?"
"Ah! Ouch, ouch, Brand... I'll never, never do it again..." Roman's face was pulled to one side; she squinted her eyes in pain, tears almost welling up as she hurriedly admitted fault: "I'm sorry, I'm sorry..."
Her little eyebrows nearly stood up; she wanted to retreat but was afraid of the pain, making her unable to move.
Brand glanced at the old dwarf in the arena and then at Roman, asking: "Will you dare to run around everywhere again?"
"No, I won't..." the girl answered with her eyes darting left and right.
Brand sighed, knowing this one was beyond redemption, but he had already decided to take her with him wherever he went henceforth. Another close call like this would be unbearable for anyone.
He sighed softly and released his hand.
At the sa ti, the surrounding light dimd instantly, as if they were entering a space where one couldn't see their hand in front of them —
"What's wrong?" Roman's voice imdiately sounded.
"Nothing," Brand replied, feeling the environnt around him. "So we're back."
