Now reading: Chapter 997 - 222: Distant Victory (Part 2) from Amber Sword, a Game novel by Crimson Flame.

However, this Noble Knight never dread his enemies would be so diverse; rcenaries are already a mixed lot, and adventurers co from all corners of the world. Weide had just begun to feel a bit proud, not realizing several Elf Archers in the forest had long since targeted this conspicuous Cavalry.

"Hanuo, you go left, I'll go right." About one or two hundred ters away, an Elf completely cloaked in leaves, held a longbow and handed a green arrow to the Human Ranger behind him.

"Those two?"

"Those two."

Two twangs of bowstrings sounded in the forest. Just as the Red Banner Cavalry was entering the southern shore's forest, the two leading riders flipped off their horses like blocks of wood. Sir Weide was startled, looking back to find both his subordinates had arrows in the movable part of their throat armor and had instantly died. He felt his hair stand on end and shouted, "There are Divine Archers, be careful!"

True Divine Archers are a nightmare for all Heavy Armor Units since their heavy armor seems nonexistent to them. Their armor-piercing arrows always hit the weakest, most fatal spot; in typical armies, professional archers are already precious, not to ntion Divine Archers who can shoot an arrow through a willow leaf from a hundred paces. Lords often spend a fortune to hire such people, but Weide knows truly powerful Divine Archers mostly co from Elves and Rangers, who cherish freedom even more.

Thinking of this, Sir Weide couldn't help but curse inwardly. Where did this damned Rebel Army co from—featuring Druids, Rangers, and Elves—was it the Forest Alliance? Or were they waging so Holy War? The thought of the November War made him shiver.

"Over there!" The Red Banner Cavalry maintained a uniform speed within the forest. Movent within a Divine Archer's attack range equates to life; these cavalryn were seasoned veterans who understood this well, and soon, they spotted the enemy.

Not far away, a shadow rapidly moved along the vine-reinforced dark brown earth walls.

A slender Elf with grey-green skin kept his head low as he shifted behind the battlents, soon nearing a close point with the group of knights. The Elf stopped to observe, his narrow pupils radiating a calm light, then he continued moving while partially exposing himself from behind the wall, raising his longbow.

"It's an Elf Archer!" The cavalryn scread as soon as they saw the archer's posture. They imdiately removed their round shields from their saddles and hoisted them high to block their throats. To children, Elf Archers are Divine Archers from fairy tales, but to soldiers on the battlefield, Elf Archers as enemies are nightmares.

Especially with grey-green skin, they are Wind Elves, Wilderness Runners.

Not far away, hidden within a well-concealed trench, Hu Que poked his head out to glance afar, then shrank back, gesturing to the others, "They're all veterans."

"Too bad it's useless, haha." The rcenaries, hardened by years of battle, smirked darkly, a cruel glimr in their eyes, and indeed, they laughed.

It truly was useless.

A white light streaked, and an arrow pierced straight through the center of the leading cavalryman's round shield, penetrated completely, and then pierced his throat, spraying blood like flowers, before striking the chest armor of another cavalryman behind him. With a loud bang, the second cavalryman flew off his horse.

Only then did the first cavalryman flip off his horse without a word.

"Silver Shooter!"

Weide almost thought he'd fallen into a giant trap for an instant; the grey-green figure on the battlents had stopped now, transforming into a turret—though more like a Death God to our dear Sir. Each ti the grey-green-skinned Elf raised his longbow, at least one Red Banner cavalryman charging through the forest fell.

Weide's scalp felt troubleso, yet he was still an excellent commander. He instantly drew his Sword and ordered forcefully:

"Move in, suppress that guy with hand cannons!"

The Silver Rank Divine Archer's might was terrifying; at a rate of two arrows per second, by the ti he finished shooting, Weide's troops' morale might have already crumbled.

The rustling arrows in the forest beca deadly Divine Talismans, yet at this mont, the Red Banner Cavalry demonstrated their elite prowess. In such circumstances, they maintained high spirits in their charge and were soon about to enter hand cannon range.

Sir Weide breathed a sigh of relief.

He commanded the cavalryn to raise their lances high so the red banner could wave proudly in the forest; victory seed within reach, just outflank the line, and they could deliver a decisive blow to these rebels from the side-rear.

Only alas, re inches from triumph, victory remained a distant dream—

Hu Que snapped his fingers to all, "Our turn to shine."

The seemingly uneven forest floor was carpeted with fallen autumn leaves, sprinkled with snow, but suddenly, at this very mont, a full row of 'scarecrows' rose from the leaves.

Of course, they weren't scarecrows, but rcenaries camouflaged to perfection.

Weide's heart skipped a beat, feeling it sinking steadily. "Knights!" The Red Banner Cavalry suddenly panicked. Hu Que licked his lips, stepped forward, and hurled a hand axe spinning swiftly through the air.

Ti seed to freeze.

He watched as one cavalryman toppled backward, while another holding a lance swept past his side; Hu Que calmly sidestepped, raised his left hand holding a heavy sword, and sliced a long gash in the unlucky fellow's waist.

Rose-colored blood, trailing warm white mist, scattered in the air like sparkling pearls.

The cavalryman let out a wrenching cry, using the montum of the horse dashed forward a few steps, then collapsed sideways onto the ground. Sir Weide stared in horror at the scene—indeed, they were knights, with at least the front-most few having silver-level prowess.

Hope shattered like a fragile crystal sculpture, breaking into pieces.

"Damn rebels!" The Noble Knight suddenly felt a tinge of sadness, but he didn't retreat, instead, he raised his Longsword, a resolute glint in his eyes, charging at Hu Que: "Die!"

An arrow pierced through his throat.

On the earth wall, the Elf stowed away his longbow.
