Naruto: Training is My Ninja Way
Just as the violent energy surging through Carrie was about to explode, a hand gently rested on her shoulder.
In that instant, the rampaging power found an outlet. It poured wildly into the waiting palm.
Luke grunted, and a strange, gorgeous color blood across his hand. The color greedily devoured every bit of energy spilling out of Carrie's body.
A pure, refined force flooded up his arm and into his chest. The sharp pain in his wounds eased as the energy washed through him.
The power he absorbed felt different from the monster's life force. This was pure psychic energy—raw chaos, fear, and rage.
As the energy drained away, Carrie's trembling body slowly stilled.
She lifted her head and looked up at the blood-covered man through tear-filled eyes, her face full of confusion and terror.
The suffocating pressure inside the bus vanished with it.
But the amplified malice didn't just disappear.
Without the energy to fuel it, the students' vicious attacks on Carrie stopped cold. Yet the rage still needed sowhere to go.
Every pair of eyes turned toward Luke.
The blond kid, Chris, was the first to jump up. His face flushed red with excitent as he pointed at Luke.
"You're the freak she brought with her? You drop out of the sky like so kind of monster and now you're protecting this freak too?"
Luke pulled his hand back and gave him a tired look.
He just wanted to heal and get the hell out of here. He had zero interest in dealing with a bunch of emotionally hijacked teenagers.
To Chris, that reaction looked like weakness.
His courage exploded. The adrenaline made him forget how Luke had casually ripped through the roof with his bare hands minutes earlier.
Chris stepped forward, chest puffed out, trying to rile up the others.
"I knew you weren't legit! That badge is fake—you're probably so wanted criminal! Co on, everyone! Let's grab him!"
The rest of the students, still riding the wave of redirected rage, started shouting too.
"Call the cops! Get him arrested!"
"Throw him off the bus!"
The driver looked completely lost. He tried to pull a couple of the loudest kids back, but they shoved him aside.
Carrie saw it all happening and waved her hands frantically, trying to explain, but fear had her voice locked up. Only broken whimpers ca out.
Luke knew he had to shut this down hard and fast.
He braced himself against the seat and slowly stood up straight.
He took a deep breath, then roared with everything he had.
"Enough! Shut the hell up!"
His enhanced body gave him a voice that didn't belong to any normal man.
The blast hit the inside of the bus like a grenade. A small shockwave even ruffled the hair of the girls in the front row.
Every student felt their eardrums sting. Their heads snapped back as the raging heat in their blood instantly cooled.
Luke's gaze swept over the bus. He spoke slowly, every word like a hamr.
"I don't care what your problems are. Right now, you're all going to shut your mouths and sit back down. Otherwise, I'll personally teach you what respect looks like."
Most of them stumbled back a step, suddenly very quiet.
Chris was the only exception.
His pride wouldn't let him back down in front of everyone.
He stuck his chin out, voice cracking with forced bravado.
"Who the fuck do you think you are? You think you scare ? You're just a cripple!"
"Fine."
Luke nodded, and a cold little smile touched his mouth.
He raised his hand.
Right as he was about to show this loudmouth exactly how hard a "cripple" could slap, a faint, alien sound ca from the hole in the roof.
Luke froze and snapped his head up.
A bug the size of a dinner plate, jet-black and shaped like so kind of beetle, clung silently to the edge of the torn tal. Six insect legs. A wicked stinger at the end of its abdon.
It noticed Luke watching. Its body twitched.
Then it launched downward in a blur too fast for the eye to follow.
"Watch out!"
Luke shouted and lunged for Chris's collar.
Too late.
The bug's stinger shot out mid-air like a spring-loaded spike and buried itself in the back of Chris's neck.
"Ah!"
Chris let out a short, sharp scream and went limp.
The mont the stinger hit, the bug slamd onto the back of his head, all six legs clamping down like a living helt.
A thin black thread shot from its mouth and wrapped around the tal edge of the roof hole.
Then the tiny creature pulled with impossible strength.
In the middle of the students' terrified screams, Chris's body was yanked off the floor and dragged upward like a rag doll.
His fingers scraped white lines across the tal floor. His legs kicked uselessly.
A second later he vanished through the hole, pulled out into the night.
Luke was already moving.
Ignoring the pain in his broken leg, he planted his good foot and launched himself up. He caught the edge of the hole, pulled himself through, and rolled onto the roof in one smooth motion.
He couldn't let that thing kill Chris. If it got away and recovered, its flight ability would make it nearly impossible to catch. He had to finish it while it was still weak.
Luke scanned the treeline and locked onto the black thread dragging Chris's limp body at terrifying speed into the woods.
"Son of a bitch."
He jumped off the roof without hesitation.
The impact on his broken leg sent white-hot pain screaming up his body. He almost dropped to his knees.
Teeth gritted, he pushed through it and limped-ran into the dense forest beside the highway.
"Hey! Where the hell are you going? Wait up!"
The hippie driver leaned out the broken roof, shouting in panic.
Inside the bus, every student stood frozen in pure terror.
The earlier tension was gone like it had never existed.
The kid who had been rambling about hollow-earth people was now foaming at the mouth, eyes rolled back, passed out cold.
Carrie snapped out of her fear. She looked at the hole in the roof, clenched her jaw, and stumbled toward the door.
She had to go. She had to help the man who saved her.
"Co back! It's dangerous out there!"
The driver yelled.
Carrie didn't even glance at him. She stared in the direction Luke had disappeared, then ran into the woods without looking back.
