Friday, November 29, 1991 – Night.
Zaboru stayed late at the office, continuing his work on the blueprint for his Sentai ga, Z-Man. The foundation was now complete and ready for developnt. Tomorrow, he planned to shift his focus to brainstorming for the SpongeBob ga.
By now, it was already 19:30. Typically, ZAGE employees left by 18:00, with the latest staying until 19:00. Zaboru never forced overti; in fact, he encouraged his employees to go ho on ti. That's why he was alone in the office, as usual, intending to head ho around 21:00.
'Heh, my Sentai ga blueprint is ready. Now I can focus on the SpongeBob ga tomorrow. Should I reskin an existing ga or make one from scratch? Maybe just take inspiration?'
He leaned back in his chair, allowing himself a mont of relaxation. Just then, his office doorbell rang.
'Who could it be at this hour?'
He checked the door. It was Ayumi. She smiled and said, "I knew you'd still be here. Can I co in?"
Zaboru hesitated for a mont. 'What does she want at this ti?' He sighed and nodded. "Okay, Ayumi. Co in."
She entered with a warm smile. "You work too much, Zaboru. That's not good, you know? You need to take it Easy sotis"
Zaboru chuckled. "Don't worry about it. I just enjoy working at night like this, it's make my mind relaxed while also be productive, Anyway, do you want sothing to drink? I can make you a cappuccino if you'd like."
Ayumi smiled. "I'd like a coffee, but I prefer Aricano. Can you make it?"
Zaboru raised an eyebrow. "Didn't expect you to like true coffee. Alright, I can make it."
He prepared an espresso with his coffee machine, then added hot water, handing the cup to Ayumi. "Here, Aricano."
She took a sip, her eyes lighting up. "Wow, this coffee is really good! Where did you get it?"
Zaboru grinned. "It's Sayuri-san's special blend. She mixes different types of beans to create this. She really knows her stuff."
Ayumi smiled. "So she's a coffee lover too, huh?" She took another sip, savoring the flavor.
Zaboru took a sip of his own coffee. "Anyway, why did you co here? Is this about your ga Karate Bunny?"
Ayumi shook her head. "No, Zaboru. I just wanted to tell you that I'll be starting college at Tohoku University in Sendai next Monday."
Zaboru's eyes widened. Tohoku University was one of Japan's top institutions. "Wow, congratulations! Tohoku is no Joke!"
Ayumi smiled lightly. "Even though Sendai isn't too far from Tokyo, I might rent a place there. So, we may not see each other as often anymore..."
Zaboru, still oblivious to her underlying aning, waved it off. "Don't worry about it. We can still et occasionally—especially when Karate Bunny is ready for release!" He continue to sip his coffee while smiling.
Ayumi sighed, slightly annoyed. She recalled what her driver, Junjou, had told her—if she wanted sothing, she had to take the initiative, Especially if soone dense as Zaboru, She's love Watching Zaboru work so hard toward his dream, seeing him create great gas with ease, and noticing how his deanor had evolved into that of a true leader recently, she couldn't deny it any longer she had to admit that She had fallen for him. But Zaboru seems not really interested in her, couple of tis she's tried to ask him not directly but he always shrugs it off.
Determined, she took a deep breath and steadied herself. "Zaboru, I... I know this might sound sudden, but..."
Zaboru looked at her, puzzled, and took another sip from his coffee "Hmm? What is it, Ayumi?"
She inhaled deeply, mustering all her courage. "I know Zaboru , I can't compare to you right now. I know I don't deserve you yet. And I know you're not interested in at this mont, Zaboru..."
Zaboru's eyes widened. and He almost spout his coffee from his mouth! 'What? What the hell is she talking about?'
Ayumi clenched her fists, her face red and continued. "But! I will always try to catch up to you! I want to beco a woman you'd be proud of as a ga developer!"
Then, with all her might, she shouted:
"I like you, Zaboru!"
Zaboru's eyes widened further, his mouth falling open in shock.
