Thursday night, March 20, Zaboru grinned while Jas and Ryan sat in stunned silence. They had just watched the ZEPS advertisent for Japan, and their jaws practically hit the floor. The sheer energy, pacing, and the electric soundtrack had left them speechless for a good few monts before Jas finally found his voice.
"Zaboru! That was insane! What song is that? It's so hype!" Jas finally exclaid, shaking his head in disbelief.
Zaboru smirked. "That's my own creation. I call it 'Gas Gas.'"
Ryan, Kudou, and Jas widened their eyes in disbelief. Kudou was the first to speak. "Boss, I knew you made plenty of Japanese songs, but I had no idea you could produce a Western-style song too! That's seriously impressive!"
Jas and Ryan both nodded in agreent. Ryan then said "Zaboru, you're really sothing else. Even I feel like buying ZEPS, and I'm one of the distributors!" Jas laughed at Ryan Statent "I know right!?", while still trying to process what he had just witnessed.
Zaboru chuckled before shifting gears. "By the way, are you fine selling the gas for just $40-$45? The exchange rate right now is about 210 yen per dollar, which ans you're only getting around 8,400 yen per ga—pretty close to the Japanese retail price. Are you sure Erald Wings is okay with that?"
Ryan grinned. "It's fine. We're selling the console at a much higher price anyway. And don't worry, Zaboru. We've already thought this through. The Arican economy is strong right now, and most households can afford to spend around $300 for a ZEPS. The price balance works in our favor."
Zaboru nodded. "Fair enough." He was starting to realize that the economy in this world was quite different from the one he had known in his previous life. Currency values and purchasing power didn't always align with what he had expected.
"Anyway, Jas, Ryan, Kudou, and I will be heading back to Japan. Let's hope everything goes smoothly with the launch." He then paused and turned back to Jas. "Oh, before I forget—can you look into animation studios capable of producing cartoons? I'm thinking about making one in Japan and translating it for the US. Do you think that's possible?"
Jas exchanged glances with Ryan before grinning. "You want to make a cartoon too? Whoa! Count in! Don't worry, I'll look into proper animation studios in the US and see if we can form a partnership. I'll let you know when I find sothing promising."
Zaboru smiled and nodded, appreciating their enthusiasm. With that, he and Kudou returned to the hotel for the night, preparing for their flight back to Japan the following morning.
anwhile, at the Sonaya USA Branch offices, Hikaru Kurata sat in the Sonaya USA branch office, fuming. He had co to oversee the Sonaya MGB global release, wanting to ensure everything went smoothly. In Japan, ZEPS was still dominating, even though MGB had gained a modest following since their release earlier this month.
But this... this was an absolute disaster. His grip on his wine glass tightened before he suddenly hurled it against the wall, shattering it into pieces. His secretary and the other high-ranking executives in the room went pale, their bodies stiff with fear. Hikaru's face was red with rage, veins bulging from his forehead.
"ZABORU! YOU WENT GLOBAL ALREADY!? AND YOU'RE ALREADY RUNNING ADS HERE TOO!? WHY IS IT THE SA AS IN JAPAN!? DAMMIT! AND HOW THE HELL DID HE MAKE THAT KIND OF AD!? WHOSE SONG IS THAT!?"
Keirran Kent, the CTO of Sonaya US, broke into a nervous sweat. He knew that Kurata's wrath was legendary, and right now, he was in the center of it.
"Boss, calm down! We can still salvage this! ZEPS is very expensive here, so we can sell the MGB for $189 and price the gas at $60. That should give us a competitive edge!" Keirran suggested hesitantly, hoping to defuse the situation.
Hikaru's eyes widened before he let out a dark chuckle, followed by a sigh. He ran a hand down his face as his fury montarily subsided. "Why is everyone around so damn incompetent? You want to sell MGB for $189 and charge $60 for the gas? Do you even have a functioning brain!? IT DOESN'T MATTER IF WE SELL MGB AT A LOSS! WE CAN'T WIN AGAINST ZAGE RIGHT NOW! DO YOU UNDERSTAND!? THEY JUST DROPPED 27 GAS AT LAUNCH! TWENTY-SEVEN! AND THE WORST PART? THEY'RE ALL HIGH QUALITY! THEY'RE NOT LIKE THE CHEAP ATARI JUNK FROM BACK IN THE DAY! DO YOU GET IT NOW!? MGB CAN'T ENTER THIS MARKET! NOT YET! NOT WHILE ZAGE IS DOMINATING LIKE THIS!"
Keirran wavered under the verbal assault, realizing the depth of the situation for the first ti. He had underestimated ZAGE's aggressive push into the US market. "S-sorry, boss..."
Hikaru let out another sigh before rubbing his temples. "Just leave alone. You too," he said, gesturing for his secretary to leave. The room emptied quickly, leaving Hikaru in silence. He leaned back in his chair, frustration seething beneath the surface.
"First Zanichi leaves, and I still haven't found anyone as talented as him when it cos to making gas. Makoto is useless at coming up with ideas, and while he's a decent developer, that alone won't be enough. Aoyama is out there searching for talent, but so far, we've found nothing substantial." His teeth clenched, hands balling into fists. "Damn it! If only I had entered the market before ZAGE!"
He took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down. It wouldn't do him any good to lose his composure now. "Relax, Hikaru. This is just the beginning. There will be plenty of opportunities. ZAGE isn't invincible. They'll slip up eventually, and when they do, we'll be there to take advantage of it. We will wait until the ZEPS release hype subsides, and then MGB can enter the US market—probably in a month or two."
With that thought, he closed his eyes, letting the anger simr down. The battle had only just begun, and he refused to let Zaboru stay ahead forever.
