Friday, 25 December 1992

After Zaboru the Gar was unleashed last night, he returned to his work with renewed focus. The December ga releases were set for launch tomorrow, Saturday, 26 December, along with the highly anticipated ZAGE Ga of the Year (GOTY) event.

Today's agenda involved critical discussions about expanding ZAGE's physical presence within Japan. Zaboru was considering establishing a new branch, possibly in Kyoto or Osaka. The reason was straightforward: ZAGE needed more space to accommodate future growth and new employees. As he reviewed staffing projections, it beca clear that so team mbers from the Tokyo headquarters might be transferred to ZAGE's upcoming U.S. branch. The specific personnel had yet to be finalized, but the planning had already begun.

Zaboru also wanted ZAGE to gain full control over the manufacturing of its arcade systems. His vision included creating toys and action figures in-house, or at the very least, acquiring a company capable of doing so. While partnerships with Nanco and HanDai had been excellent so far, he knew business alliances could beco unstable—especially when money and market dominance were involved. Backstabbing, though rare, was never off the table.

Currently, ZAGE was financially strong enough to potentially buy out a majority share in Nanco and HanDai if needed. However, Zaboru wasn't ready to act impulsively. The relationships with Nanco's Nando Michio and HanDai's Mido Mitoma were solid, and he didn't want to jeopardize that. Mitoma seed open to the idea of deeper integration, but Nando was different—an owner who poured passion into his company, and not soone easily swayed by financial incentives alone but possibilities always exist—if Zaboru can convincingly promise to elevate Nanco to new heights through ownership, Nando might be persuaded. After all, he values the future and integrity of his company more than just profit. Zaboru made a note to discuss future possibilities with both n in person.

For the Manufacturer ZAGE already had two manufacturers working closely under its umbrella. The first, Saiko Machine, was majority-owned by ZAGE. Originally founded by Marui Tetsuo, the company was now run by his son, gumi Tetsuo. gumi frequently visited ZAGE to share ideas and align visions. Saiko Machine had beco ZAGE's official manufacturer, and gumi had always been eager to expand the company further. He frequently sought Zaboru's advice on growth strategies, and Zaboru, ever supportive of ambitious partners, was always open to offering his insights and capital to do so.

The second, Mirai Manufacturer, was led by Ryoga Sugoima, the ambitious son of forr owner Ryoma Sugoima. ZAGE held 49% of the shares, and while Ryoga respected ZAGE's influence, he dread of expanding Mirai's reach to other clients. Zaboru, however, disagreed. He believed the volu of ZAGE's future production would be massive enough to justify full focus from Mirai. Ryoga remained skeptical. He doubted that ZAGE would scale as dramatically as Zaboru claid—that was just his nature. While Ryoga admired bold visions, he needed tangible proof before placing his faith in them. Still, Zaboru was determined to prove him wrong.

Zaboru was eager to either establish or acquire a manufacturing company that aligned with ZAGE's long-term vision. He was still evaluating candidates, but one possibility included purchasing a large, established manufacturer within Japan to accelerate growth. Additionally, he was considering founding new manufacturing branches outside of Japan in the future to maximize production capabilities on a global scale.

In the realm of distribution, ZAGE had total ownership of Sora Distribution, forrly run by Tatsuo Fudou. After ZAGE's acquisition, the company had flourished. Sora even help handled logistics for Nanco's arcade machines distributions . Prior to the acquisition, Sora struggled with Yakuza interference—cargo routinely hijacked or destroyed by the Maken Rengo alliance. That changed when ZAGE secured protection from the Hamazou family, one of Tokyo's most powerful Yakuza groups, and specifically from Akechi, known as "Rashomon."

Since then, Sora Distribution trucks displayed the Hamazou mark—a signal that kept even the boldest criminals at bay. No one dared interfere with property marked by Rashomon even the infamous Maken Rengo. The result? Efficient, uninterrupted operations and a thriving logistics arm. Tatsuo Fudou's talents also flourished at Sora Distribution. He was genuinely delighted that his company could now operate smoothly and efficiently, and he felt well-supported in his role under ZAGE's leadership.

On Batteries side Zaboru's partnership with Miyagi Batteries remained strong. The company, now run by his high school friend Ryo Miyagi, produced the ZGB's advanced Z-Batteries. Although ZAGE had acquired a significant stake, the Miyagi family retained majority ownership. This cooperation model had proven mutually beneficial. Business was booming, and Zaboru had no plans to change that balance.

In dia, both YaDo Animation and Hakushensha Publishing were now entirely owned by ZAGE. These acquisitions secured ZAGE's foothold in content production—manga, ani, and beyond.

Zaboru was also open to acquiring additional animation studios or publishing companies to further strengthen ZAGE's in-house capabilities and maximize their utility across various projects.

Zaboru's broader vision for ZAGE remained ambitious. He didn't want the company to be limited by dependency on others. While he appreciated aningful partnerships, his priority was self-sufficiency. In his ideal future, ZAGE would be able to build, publish, distribute, and even manufacture its own physical and digital entertainnt products—all under one roof.

Next, he planned to hold a etings focused on ZAGE's branch expansion strategy today . The other ZAGE executives would be present as well, contributing to critical decisions that would shape the company's future direction.

To be continued.
