He took a deep breath, and his finger fell—
The instant he touched it, the world shattered.
Darkness surged like a tide, tearing the view into countless fragnts.
Lin Xian saw a bullet spinning through a skull.
He wasn’t just watching but beca the bullet itself; the tal shell grinding against flesh, crushing bones, the feeling of brain matter boiling from the heat transmitted clearly to his nerve endings. The mont the bullet tore through, it was as if he personally tasted the flavor of death.
"Bang."
The gunshot exploded deep within his consciousness, echoing incessantly from afar to near.
The darkness began to collapse, space twisted like crumpled paper in the hands of an invisible force, Lin Xian felt himself elongated into countless fine threads, every nerve soaked in icy nothingness.
At this mont, Shi Zhi only saw Lin Xian’s pupils violently contract, his fingers clinging tightly to the bullet, knuckles turning white from the force, the area where flesh t tal turning a strange gray-blue, as if being slowly eroded by so existence.
So, she gritted her teeth and intensified her superpower activation.
The illusions continued.
Lin Xian saw countless versions of himself, so had their heads blown apart, others had their chests pierced, others had their entire bodies twisted into spirals of blood and flesh by collapsing space, each mont of death transforming into mory fragnts, forcibly stuffed into his consciousness.
This wasn’t an illusion.
This bullet had genuinely claid lives.
Cold sweat trickled down his temple, breathing beca difficult, as if his lungs were being squeezed by invisible hands, yet his fingers did not relax!
"Whoo~"
The next mont, the terrifying scenes retreated like a tide, Lin Xian staggered back a step, a tallic taste surged in his throat. He looked down at the bullet in his hand, the part in contact with his skin continuously turning ashen, his face changed instantly, and he imdiately took out the flashing electromagnetic gun from behind him, placing the bullet in that specially-made bullet clip.
At this mont, the coldness on his fingers disappeared, and the ashen color gradually faded, yet Lin Xian could clearly feel an ever-present sense of being targeted by a bullet aid at his forehead, and as it slightly throbbed, he sensed a spatial connection had ford with this bullet!
"How is it?" Chen Sixuan and KIKI ca over, asking with concern.
Lin Xian exhaled deeply, nodding, "It’s okay."
Zhou Lei, in the distant corner, witnessed this, a flicker of terror appearing in his eyes, another taboo item. Just seeing these things now scared him, causing him to tremble all over, but with his mouth sealed, all he could do was groan helplessly.
Lin Xian gestured for KIKI to release him. With his mouth freed, Zhou Lei imdiately seized the opportunity, pleading,
"Captain Lin, I’m begging you, take with you, even if you lock up. I know many secrets, as long as you let leave this hellish place, I’ll... I’ll do whatever you say."
Lin Xian frowned, "Didn’t you just say you wanted to live here a few more days?"
Zhou Lei glanced evasively, "The Deep Red World won’t let go; whether I die here or elsewhere doesn’t matter, but maybe outside..."
He wasn’t stupid; if the black candle extinguished, he’d die; escape was impossible. Hiding underground waiting for soone to end him was less appealing than taking a gamble. Seeing Lin Xian and the Silent City’s group as highly capable, he decided to make a plea, having spent considerable ti in the Deep Red World and even joined the Holy Revelation, although only as a pawn. However, Zhou Lei was cunning and sly, having acquired so information, pondering that it might just save his life.
On one side, death was certain; on the other, he maybe had a bit of utility value. This much Zhou Lei could see quite clearly.
Lin Xian didn’t actually intend to eliminate this guy right away, and indeed felt that keeping him alive might be useful, although he was still considering how best to handle him, as this guy, if not confined, could easily slip away, disappearing from radar, making him truly uncanny.
Just then, Monica stepped forward, giving Lin Xian a look, "Let help you keep an eye on him; his little tricks won’t fool ."
Lin Xian looked at Monica, suddenly hearing her voice in his private channel, "Even if he hides, I can hear his heartbeat."
Lin Xian’s expression shifted, realizing and imdiately nodded, raising his hand to conjure handcuffs and lock Zhou Lei up, then said to Monica, "Alright, I’ll leave him to you then."
"Ah! Thank you, Captain Lin, for sparing my life!" Seeing he was shackled, Zhou Lei imdiately realized he temporarily preserved his life, excitedly kneeling down with a thud.
Lin Xian glanced at him, saying nothing more.
At this point, the group returned from the control room to below the mysterious research lab’s hangar. Due to the Fish-tailed Lion Statue’s influence, Qian Suxun piloted the transport ship, leading everyone away. The Joint Train exploration team would separate at the White City Rail Station, and subsequently, Qian Suxun would fly the transport ship directly back to the West Mountain Fortress, coordinating with the underground nuclear base personnel for the next steps.
A few minutes later, as the tide subsided, the ground above the hangar opened, and the transport ship flew out of the sewage plant with a low hum, sweeping swiftly at a low altitude over the secret streets of White City past the statue’s rotary radius.
10:35 PM.
Lin Xian kept an eye on the ti; in less than a minute, the transport ship arrived again at White City Rail Station, where Lin Xian led team mbers to start splitting up.
"Lin, good luck."
Before departing, Qian Suxun, with Tianye Lan, Ryuji, and Shi Zhi, bid him farewell.
