"There are so many of us and only four of them," A guy with patched white hair said, trying to rally everyone.

However, his words had little effect. Sure, there were more of them, but only five of them had weapons. Three of them had makeshift spears, while the other two had kukris. Aside from that, only two people had riot shields.

To make things worse, the hobgoblins had been released. Right now, they were tumbling around, trying to adjust their senses to compensate for losing their eyes.

It was only a matter of ti before they got a hold of their senses and charged at them.

"Dexter, we need a plan," a raven-haired woman said, nudging her son. "Think of sothing quickly!"

"Stop putting in a spot!" the boy glared at his mother. "Don’t forget, I already helped you by picking a spear instead of the fish and chips you wanted to eat!"

Raveena, the woman, quickly apologized and urged him to think of sothing.

Dexter nudged his broken glasses with the tip of his kukri and looked around. He noticed the discarded vehicles there. While they might not be able to drive them, it did give Dexter an idea.

"We can’t take them on even with numbers," he whispered, pointing at three random vehicles. "But we can distract them and take them down one at a ti."

Dexter quickly explained his plan to the rest, and after so disagreents and refining, everyone agreed to the plan. So of them thought the plan was feasible, while the others had nothing planned themselves, so they joined the crowd.

Seconds later, only the guys with the shields and Kukris remained in the center. The rest of them divided themselves into groups of six and crept over to the abandoned cars in the basent. They noiselessly took off the weather protectors of the cars and waited.

Once everyone was in position, Dexter banged the blunt edge of his kukri into one of the shields. The loud bang echoed in the basent, and all the hobgoblins turned towards the noise.

However, before the hobgoblins could react, Raveena hit a car with the back of her spear. At the sa ti, the five others began running around the basent in random directions.

The hobgoblins got distracted again, and just as they had taken a step towards the car, soone hit another car that was behind the hobgoblins.

The process kept repeating, utterly confusing the hobgoblins. Soon, their pack ntality had broken apart. Instead of moving together, each hobgoblin darted in a different direction.

"Team A, do it now!" Dexter yelled.

As soon as he did, the group threw the car cover on top of the hobgoblin. It wasn’t to turn the blind hobgoblin even more blind, but to restrict its movents.

The five people tackled the monster to the ground. Two people held it in place while the other three ensured it stayed trapped under the cover.

"What are you waiting for, mom!? Stab the monster now!" Dexter yelled, while keeping an eye on the rest, but he didn’t forget to steal glances at Aiden.

Since this was a test, Dexter wanted both his mother and himself to leave the best possible impression on Aiden. If they could prove their value to him, their future in the apartnts would be secured.

"I-I..."

Raveena hesitated. Apart from cleaning dead fish and chicken, she had never hard a thing. The thought of stabbing sothing made her hesitate.

"DO IT NOW!" Dexter yelled at her.

Ti was of the essence. While she and another group had spears, there was one group without long weapons.

Dexter had planned for Raveena to kill the first hobgoblin and then kill another to give more credit to her. But her hesitance was ruining everything.

"YA!" Raveena scread, raising the spear over her head and bringing it down with all her might.

The spear tore through the fabric before hitting the hobgoblin in the shoulder. The pain agitated the creature, and it began thrashing around violently.

"Damn you! Just die!"

After hitting the creature once, Raveena didn’t stop and kept shoving the spear into the hobgoblin like it was a pincushion.

Following the sa plan, another team managed to kill the second hobgoblin. The third group, not waiting for help, began pumling the hobgoblin with kicks and punches.

While it wasn’t enough to kill the creature, they could buy ti for spear holders from the other groups to co help.

That was all the ti Dexter could spare for others. After all, another hobgoblin was already crashing against the riot shields in front.

Its rancid spit covered the shields as it tried to bite soone through the shields.

Dexter looked at the two kukri holders, gesturing for them to move behind the hobgoblin and attack it. However, the two were hesitant.

Their weapon was the sa as Dexter’s, so why did they have to do it while Dexter remained safe behind shields?

"Alright, you stupid fucks!" Dexter growled, grabbing one of their kukris. "I’m taking this too. It’s wasted on you, anyway."

The man reached to snatch the blade back, but the other guy, probably his friend or relative, held him back.

anwhile, Dexter carefully slipped around the riot shield wall, while the hobgoblin in front kept snarling and slamming its ugly face against the shields.

He didn’t bother arguing with the other two. As annoying as it was, their refusal to take the risk gave Dexter a chance to prove his value in Aiden’s eyes.

That said, Dexter was scared.

If he had been brave, then he wouldn’t be rotting away in the slums in the first place.

Co on, Dexter. Your mom did it, why can’t you?

He kept reassuring himself as he circled around the distracted monster. Once he was behind the hobgoblin, Dexter raised both blades high, one in each hand, and struck with all his strength.

The plan was for the blades to strike the hobgoblin’s neck from both sides. Unfortunately, Dexter’s hands were shaking too much.

"Damn it!" he cursed, trying to yank the blades off the hobgoblin’s shoulders.

The hobgoblin froze for half a second, then let out a blood-curdling roar and kicked the shields. It swung its bulky arms. Dexter’s already weak knees got ever weaker, and he fell, unintentionally dodging the attack as the arm went past his head.

Trembling from shock, he looked up to see the monster baring its fangs at him. But before the creature could react, the other remaining guy with the kukri lunged at the hobgoblin, stabbing it in the back.

At the sa ti, two spears ripped through the hobgoblin from the front.

"Dexter!" Raveena yelled, hugging him. "Why did you take such a risk?"

Instead of looking at her, Dexter looked back. All the hobgoblins were dead. Since he ca up with the plan, he should be worth sothing in Aiden’s eyes, right?
