Watching Grandpa Sun walk away, Sun Ruixing sighed in resignation.

"Bro, don’t let it bother you. I say, in a small place like this, dealing with the old folks is the toughest of all."

Looking at Sun Ruixing’s helpless expression, Wen Yu couldn’t help but laugh.

When setting up a camp, you have to be prepared to deal with people of all sorts. If you can’t serve one person well, then all hell breaks loose. Unless you have overwhelming capabilities or implent a firm iron-fist approach, it’s better to avoid gathering spots like these.

Take Sun Ruixing, for instance. If he didn’t have the burden of the people in this camp, with his skills alone, he could have easily reached a constitution of 5 or higher. There’s no need for him to put himself in this awkward situation.

Wen Yu gave Sun Ruixing a faint smile and refrained from comnting on the matter. Everyone has their own way of living. Since Sun Ruixing believed leading these people was worthwhile, it wasn’t his place to critique.

"Let’s eat! Let’s eat!" Seeing the situation becoming awkward, Sun Ruixing loudly addressed the people below, primarily the capable young n he had personally trained. Most of the older people had left with Grandpa Sun.

Wen Yu lowered his head, quietly eating his food. He had to admit, the rural als were indeed tasty. Of course, it was also possible this was simply because it was the first hot al Wen Yu had eaten since the apocalypse began.

As the al ca to an end, a group of middle-aged won began clearing the tables. Wen Yu struck up a casual conversation with Sun Ruixing.

"Big Brother Sun, have you always lived in Hualin Town?" Wen Yu took the cigarette Sun Ruixing passed him and took two light puffs.

"Yeah, I used to work in transport. Then the apocalypse broke out. My daughter was studying in Yanjing City. To this day, I still have no idea how she is," Sun Ruixing said, exhaling a puff of smoke, his eyes distant.

"Don’t worry. Fortune favors the good. Considering how many people you’ve saved in Town hl, Big Brother Sun, your daughter will be fine," Wen Yu offered a rare sentence of comfort.

"True," Sun Ruixing chuckled.

"By the way, little brother, I need your help tomorrow. I’ll be taking a team to the Mudanjiang City Toll Booth to scout. I hope Brother Wen Yu can give a hand in securing the safety of this small camp." Sun Ruixing was clearly reluctant to continue discussing such personal matters, perhaps because it touched a sore spot.

Wen Yu thought for a mont before replying to Sun Ruixing, "That won’t be a problem. However, I’ll have to leave after you all return tomorrow. I won’t hide it from you, Big Brother Sun, that Big Lion chasing might still catch up. I need to get far away from Mudanjiang City as soon as possible."

"If Brother Wen Yu doesn’t mind this old brother’s ager strength, I can help you deal with that Big Lion," Sun Ruixing said, patting his chest. Seeing Wen Yu maintain his smile but say nothing, Sun Ruixing seed to realize Wen Yu didn’t think much of his combat abilities and gave an awkward laugh.

"Alright, let’s not talk about these things. Let first arrange a place for Brother Wen Yu to stay."

Sun Ruixing pulled Wen Yu up and headed inside the house.

There were many small rooms inside, mostly partitioned off. A few simple wooden planks and a pallet on the floor created each space.

Sun Ruixing led Wen Yu directly to a relatively clean small cubicle and said apologetically, "The place is small, and the conditions aren’t great. I hope Brother Wen Yu can bear with it."

"No problem. In tis like these, I’m not one to be fussy." The small cubicle’s environnt was actually quite good, at least a lot better than where he had lived in his previous life. Wen Yu had no complaints and placed his battle saber on the ground.

"Then, Brother Wen Yu, you rest for now. I’ll co get you when it’s ti for the afternoon al." Food was scarce, with only two als a day. This was still the early stage of the apocalypse. Later on, any settlent that could provide one full al a day would be considered prosperous.

Wen Yu nodded at Sun Ruixing. Watching him turn to leave, gathering his n to go out and clear the surrounding zombies and save survivors, Wen Yu shook his head with a sigh.

He’s a good man. I hope you have a good outco.

No longer paying attention to Sun Ruixing, Wen Yu lay down on the pallet and fell into a light doze.

Wen Yu was exhausted. The continuous battles over the past few days had drained all his energy. The mont he touched the bedding, he desperately wanted to fall into a deep sleep. Unfortunately, the surroundings forced him to remain vigilant.

The little Soul Beast curled up tightly around Wen Yu’s neck, also drifting off into a drowsy sleep.

...

Hearing footsteps approach in the distance, Wen Yu jolted, instantly sitting up and grabbing the steel saber.

Seeing Sun Ruixing walk in and noticing Wen Yu’s dazed eyes and the steel saber in his hand, Sun Ruixing laughed awkwardly. "Sorry to disturb you, brother. I ca to call you for the al."

Only then did Wen Yu fully co to his senses, recalling the morning’s events.

Putting down the steel saber, Wen Yu smiled apologetically at Sun Ruixing. "Sorry, Big Brother Sun. Being alone for so long, one can’t help but beco a bit overly vigilant."

"Understandable, understandable!" Sun Ruixing laughed heartily, pulling Wen Yu directly towards the main hall.

The sky outside was still bright, but none of the survivors questioned eating at this hour.

Eating at night would require lights. Setting aside the question of where the electricity would co from, the re fact that lights would attract zombies and mutant beasts made using them an absolute taboo in the post-apocalyptic world.

Seeing that everyone, except for those on guard duty outside, had entered the dining hall, Sun Ruixing didn’t make another speech. He simply said to everyone, "Dig in!" and then buried his head in his food.

"Wait a minute, Little Sun, this old man has a few words to say."

Before Sun Ruixing could even take two bites, Grandpa Sun spoke up from nearby.

Sun Ruixing wiped his mouth and said respectfully, "Please speak, Grandpa."

"Little Sun, a few of us old folks have discussed it, and we’d still like to trouble you to take us to Mudanjiang City tomorrow to have a look. We wonder if that’s possible." Although Grandpa Sun spoke in a consultative tone, his cloudy eyes stared intently at Sun Ruixing, giving the distinct impression he would raise hell if he didn’t get his way.

Seeing the group of elderly people staring at him, Sun Ruixing said resignedly, "Everyone, it’s not that I don’t want to take you, but it’s genuinely dangerous outside. I can’t guarantee I can bring you all back safe and sound."

Sun Ruixing’s words, however, seed to have poked a hornet’s nest, as the elderly people below imdiately started clamoring.

"Little Sun, aren’t you lot professionists? Aren’t you much stronger than ordinary people? Don’t try to fool us old folks!"

"Yeah, yeah! I think Little Sun just doesn’t want to take us out. Maybe the Mudanjiang City Governnt has already started rescue operations, and Little Sun just doesn’t want to give up his position as leader!"

"Little Sun wasn’t like this before. I rember he used to be so good to people. How can a person change so much once they get a little power?"
