The spots where the liquid splattered on her clothes were instantly corroded, leaving irregular holes that exposed her skin!
The combat suit she wore was the best available in The Dead City. It was extrely durable, supposedly made from a material that beca common after the apocalypse, offering minor protection against fire and water, and wouldn’t be damaged by scrapes or tumbles. But now, it had been easily corroded by just a few drops of liquid!
It was a poison toad!
Just as Paige Sumrs realized this, before she could even feel relieved that her body was immune to all toxins, the Crossbow Arrow she had fired monts ago ca whistling back at her at high speed!
’As expected of an Alpha Beast capable of commanding so many Mutant Beasts. This toad’s intelligence is off the charts! It can actually return my own arrow!’ Paige Sumrs cursed inwardly as she rolled on the ground. The Crossbow Arrow plunged into the rock right beside her, its tail still quivering, a testant to its imnse force.
In that instant, Paige Sumrs made a decision: retreat!
She suddenly accelerated, rushing out of the pile of rocks...
This wasn’t a simple escape. The odds of her taking down this toad alone were practically zero. In a situation like this, her only option was to find opportunities to fire potshots while running, tying it down rather than fighting it head-on.
Fortunately, her speed was more than up to the task.
Having decided on a hit-and-run strategy, she beca a black shadow, vanishing from the toad’s sight.
Of course, the toad wasn’t about to let her go and imdiately gave chase.
However, this also exposed its greatest weakness... its slow speed.
It moved by leaping, but because it was so large, it couldn’t hop about cheerfully like a small frog or toad. Although each leap covered a considerable distance, it always had to pause for several seconds before jumping again.
This few-second opening made things much easier for Paige Sumrs.
She decisively organized a new attack.
Timing it for when the toad jumped, giving her a brief window while its body was airborne, she fired three consecutive arrows at its underbelly, which was much lighter than the blackish-brown color of its back!
She misjudged the first two shots, and they were kicked away by the toad’s feet, but the third arrow struck ho with perfect accuracy!
When the toad landed, it let out a loud cry that sounded almost human, full of both pain and rage!
Paige Sumrs was running forward, just about to round the corner of the rocky mountain, a hint of pride swelling within her. Suddenly, a tangible, oppressive force bore down on her mind!
’A Spiritual Attack!’
Paige Sumrs only knew a little about Spiritual Attacks.
For example, Howard Everett’s superpower used spiritual power to control the actions of his enemies, making them stop attacking or even kill each other.
But now, she was truly experiencing just how painful it was to be on the receiving end of a Spiritual Attack!
Her head suddenly started to hurt.
It felt like an invisible hand was tearing at it, threatening to make it burst!
It wasn’t just pain, but a feeling of swelling pressure.
Like a balloon overfilled with water, its skin stretched thin and transparent, ready to shatter at any mont!
’Pain! Pain!’
At first, it was just her head, but soon the pain seed to spread, pulling at her entire body.
Her legs gave out, and she stumbled, nearly collapsing to the ground!
Fortunately, the toad remained stationary while launching its Spiritual Attack. Otherwise, given the distance between them, it could have crushed Paige Sumrs underfoot in just two or three leaps.
Despite the imnse burden the pain placed on her body, Paige Sumrs wasn’t willing to just endure it. She struggled, stumbling forward step by painful step... Subconsciously, she knew that if she didn’t get away, if she continued to be attacked like this, her end would be a miserable one!
While she was fighting the Spiritual Attack with all her might, the situation on Marcus Monroe’s end finally changed.

In an instant, the light of various superpowers flashed among the Mutant Beasts!
The fighting power humans unleash when caught between despair and hope is on a completely different Level. Faced with these ferocious Superpower Users, a traitor erged from the ranks of the weakened Mutant Beasts...
It was a mutated black cat.
Its speed and sharp claws had been a real headache.
A single swipe from it would tear flesh from bone, leaving a wound deep enough to see the bone itself!
In truth, despite all this, this Mutant Beast couldn’t be called exceptionally strong compared to the others. However, its intelligence was far greater than before its mutation, and even higher than the other Mutant Beasts present.
After realizing the situation was turning sour, it continued to fight for a while, lunging and swiping. But as the bodies of its own kind piled up, it finally had the thought to retreat.
As Grant Yardley, his face twisted in a ferocious snarl, raised his blade to strike it, the cat flinched, then abruptly turned and fled... It scrambled up the side of a rock wall, its sprinting form vanishing after just a few leaps and bounds.

Marcus Monroe stopped everyone’s excited charge, not letting them give chase. Instead, he quickly regrouped his people and led them toward the direction where the signal flare had been fired...
Even if the others didn’t understand what the Mutant Beasts’ retreat ant, he understood perfectly.
