Paige Sumrs received a call from her informant just as dusk was settling.
She hadn’t been idle at all that day. She had sketched out the design for the deformable weapon, compiled a list of materials, then gone to the shop and asked Rachel Forrest to tell Zephyr rcer to co pick them up.
Her original plan was to wait for him to arrive so they could discuss it.
So materials from her past life might not be available now, and if so, she needed to figure out which substitutes would et his requirents.
But before Zephyr rcer arrived, she received the call.
The matter of the materials could wait, but this couldn’t. Besides, Nora Lowell and the others weren’t around, leaving only Evan Pierce. The opportunity was perfect!
After a quick word with Rachel Forrest, she hurried out of Sumrs Armants.
She had no idea that just two minutes after she left, Zephyr rcer arrived.
Zephyr rcer had sped over the mont he got the call, and he was in a strangely excited state.
The excitent wasn’t just about the progress on the weapon he’d been fixated on. It was also the thought of seeing Paige Sumrs soon without needing an excuse. He felt the anxiety that had been churning in him since he learned the truth finally begin to subside.
He vaguely felt that sothing was a little off with him.
’We’ve only t once, so why am I so eager to see her?’
But then he rembered his father’s words from yesterday and quickly felt at ease.
’Anyone who suddenly finds out they have a fiancée probably couldn’t stay calm!’ he thought awkwardly. ’I just want to spend more ti with her, that’s all. At least... at least I need to find out if we’re compatible!’
The story of his engagent to Paige Sumrs was a bit old-fashioned and dated.
By a stroke of chance, Grandpa Lowell had once saved his grandfather. The rcer Family always repays their debts of gratitude, but offering money was too crude, and the Lowell Family had no need for it. So, his grandfather had decisively offered up his own son’s hand in marriage. After much fuss, however, they discovered that the Lowell Family’s Aunt Cynthia already had her heart set on soone else and refused to budge. Since Aunt Cynthia was the only daughter in the Lowell Family’s direct line, and they were unwilling to simply let the matter drop, the two grandfathers finally set their sights on the next generation—their then-unborn grandchildren.
Thinking of this, Zephyr rcer scratched his head shyly.
’It’s a good thing Paige Sumrs showed up late. My older and second brothers are already married, so the duty of fulfilling the pact fell to !’
’I guess you could call this fate...’
To be honest, Zephyr rcer had been resistant at first when he heard he had a fiancée.
But after learning it was Paige Sumrs, he found the idea wasn’t so hard to accept.
This girl wasn’t affected and coy like so many others, nor was she intimidatingly tough like the won of the rcer Family, who were practically n’s equals. She was independent and refreshingly direct, and when she smiled, her adorable, faint dimples made it impossible to look away!
Most importantly, she loved weapons just as much as he did, and she could even create the deformable weapon that had only ever existed in his imagination!
The more he thought about it, the more he felt they were a good match, and his desire to see Paige Sumrs grew stronger without him even realizing it.
Unfortunately, he was too late.
Having missed her at the shop, Zephyr rcer was so disappointed that not even the list of materials could cheer him up. Unwilling to go ho, he rushed over to Paige Sumrs’s apartnt, only to find it empty as well. A stubborn mood took over. He parked his car downstairs, determined to wait for her no matter how long it took. ’There’s no way I’m not seeing her today!’
anwhile, Paige Sumrs had no idea soone was waiting for her.
She had a headache of her own.
Not long after she left, she was surprised to discover she was being followed!
At first, she thought it was an enemy and deliberately let them get closer to gauge their intentions, but she found the person had no ill will. They just seed to be following her.
After thinking it over, she guessed it was probably soone sent by Wendy Lowell.
But even if their intentions were good, she didn’t like people prying into her movents. What’s more, what she was about to do had to be kept secret.
So, she had no choice but to play a ga of cat and mouse with them.
The person tailing her was an expert, and it took Paige Sumrs over half an hour to shake them off without a trace.
With a hat hiding half her face and a combat suit so baggy it concealed her figure, she arrived near Nora Lowell and Shawn Monroe’s residence in the Third District, dressed to be as inconspicuous as possible.
Most of the houses in the Third District were single-story buildings with a courtyard, large or small, inside. They looked much sturdier than the ones in District Four and offered more privacy.
The place where Nora Lowell and the others lived was no exception.
Paige Sumrs circled the high surrounding wall. ’The property inside must be pretty big,’ she concluded. ’Otherwise, I’d be able to hear sothing.’
’No wonder Evan Pierce is hiding out here.’
