The sky was moonless and starless as usual that night, cloaked in darkness.
For Paige Sumrs, however, the conditions couldn’t be more perfect.
She, Claire Chapman, Marcus Monroe, and several mbers of the Hunting Squad slipped into the Third District in disguise. Approaching from different directions, they quietly closed in on the residential area where Nora Lowell and Shawn Monroe were staying.
Their reconnaissance over the past two days revealed that despite what had happened with Evan Pierce, Nora Lowell and her group had not moved.
Of course, changing residences required navigating a mountain of red tape, a hassle in itself.
Besides, after listening to Woody Warren, Nora Lowell wasn’t sure whether Evan Pierce had been killed by Paige Sumrs or had simply escaped, wounded. As a result, she hadn’t made any move to leave.
And the latest intel from this evening indicated that both Nora Lowell and Shawn Monroe had returned to their residence and hadn’t gone out.
’This ti,’ Paige Sumrs thought, ’I’m ending this for good!’
She’d wanted to kill Nora Lowell for a long ti, but she couldn’t do it alone. So, after Claire Chapman returned, she told him everything—about Nadia, about Evan Pierce, and about how Nora Lowell was the one who bought the data...
After his initial shock, Claire Chapman was ecstatic.
Having a talent like Nadia willing to stay with them was a dream co true!
Nadia had inherited her mother’s research and already possessed two types of Antidotes, with more research underway. Whether or not the Antidote would ever be made public was a question for another day; for now, it ant that his life and the lives of his team mbers were far more secure!
The last mission had left a deep impression on him.
They had set out with fifty-three Hunters, but only forty-one returned. It was a stark reminder that a very high percentage of Superpower Users still died from the Zombie Virus.
And Nadia was their hope!
The importance he placed on Nadia’s safety directly translated into a murderous intent toward Nora Lowell, and he and Paige Sumrs saw eye-to-eye imdiately. After discussing it, they sent people to scout the location, and once the plan and ti were set, they moved into action.
As for Marcus Monroe, Paige Sumrs didn’t give him the specifics, explaining it only as "eliminating a hidden threat."
Marcus Monroe knew there was more to it, but since Paige Sumrs didn’t elaborate, he didn’t ask. He just said he was in.
Paige Sumrs figured the deaths of those two wouldn’t be a bad thing for him either, so she didn’t refuse.
And that was what led to tonight’s operation.
The sky grew darker.
After Paige Sumrs and Marcus Monroe had patrolled halfway around the residential area as a team, they finally got the call from Lucy Lee.
Hearing Lucy happily say, "It’s done," a satisfied smile spread across her face.
Jensen Archer had an easygoing personality and was on good terms with many Superpower Users. This ti, he was the one who went to engage the residential guards who were supposed to be on night duty.
The guards’ job wasn’t particularly lucrative and was also extrely demanding and dangerous.
There was no helping it. Superpower Users often went on missions outside the city, making all sorts of enemies, and it wasn’t uncommon for those grudges to result in soone showing up looking for trouble. The guards frequently had to intervene, and if they ran into soone particularly hot-tempered, casualties were a common occurrence.
So when Jensen Archer, a sucker who walked right up to their door, offered them fine wine and food just to keep an eye out for his "younger brother," they were more than happy to slack off on a quiet night. How could they have known that while Jensen Archer did have a brother, he had died years ago under the claws of a Mutant Beast? It was all just a pretext.
In any case, Jensen Archer quickly took command of the drinking table with his larger-than-life presence, captivating the guards.
After getting the news, Paige Sumrs notified two other teams. The rest was up to Claire Chapman, just as planned.
Soon, everyone had converged near Nora Lowell’s residence.
As team captain, Claire Chapman was once again the overall commander of the operation.
Paige Sumrs acted as the scout.
She knew this place like the back of her hand. After listening to make sure the coast was clear, she quickly took out her Hook Claw and scaled the wall.
The house was rather quiet, with only the occasional voice. Paige Sumrs recognized them; she had heard them the last ti she was here. A mont later, she picked up the low whispers of Quentin Sutton and Nola.
However, there was still no sign of the two main targets, Nora Lowell and Shawn Monroe.
Her brow furrowed.
’They shouldn’t be asleep yet at this hour.’
Her body had been tempered several tis by goodwill energy, and her five senses were far sharper than those of other Superpower Users of the sa rank. It was impossible for her not to hear them.
’Or are they just sitting in their room in complete silence?’
Various thoughts raced through her mind before she made a decision, tossing the rope she had prepared over the wall.
A series of dark figures swiftly scaled the wall and dropped into the courtyard.
Among them were Gabriel Donovan, Heath Hughes, and five Superpower Users who had just joined the team. They had all been recruited by Claire Chapman before the last mission; afterward, completely won over by his leadership, they had resolutely joined Bloodfall.
