Bai iyue turned to look behind her upon hearing the loud bang. Lu Yin took advantage of her montary distraction and tried to kick her in the stomach.
Of course, Bai iyue noticed her actions and imdiately let go of the woman. The second Lu Yin landed on the floor, she pushed Bai iyue away and ran away. She didn’t dare to linger for even a second longer.
Bai iyue watched the woman running and sneered. She wondered why Lu Yin even bothered when she had this little courage. She, however, turned on her feet and walked towards the sound of the noise instead of chasing Lu Yin. The faint scent of blood was very subtle but Bai iyue noticed it right away. There was also the scent of candies, which made Bai iyue frown.
She took out a dagger from her space pocket and clutched it tightly in her hands.
She walked to the end of the alley gently and turned the small torch in the ring that she had taken from Lei Qian and it lit up the alley enough for Bai iyue to see what was going on inside. As she walked around the large trash can, she noticed a pair of sneakers, and when she raised her hand to flash the light on the face of the man, she was surprised to find that it was none other than Bai Feng.
Seeing him lying on the floor, Bai iyue was speechless. She said to the man, "Are you really in a hurry to die? You wasted the good dicine I gave you last ti."
If she had known that this man was inclined toward dying, then she would not have wasted the dicine on him; she would have left him to die.
Bai Feng raised one of his lips when he heard Bai iyue’s words. While clutching his hand that had been bitten by a zombie, he looked up at Bai iyue and said to her, "I am sorry."
Bai iyue looked down at the man; he had surrounded himself with candy bags to avoid getting found by the zombies. There were a few mineral water bottles as well as so packets of potato chips and a few rotten fruits that could still be eaten together with several packs of bread.
"Was it worth it?" Bai iyue couldn’t help but ask when she saw that the reason Bai Feng dragged his sick body outside was because he wanted to find supplies for the Bai family. She really couldn’t understand why Bai Feng couldn’t stand up for himself and break free of the brainwashing that Chu Xia had done to him.
But then again, Bai iyue knew that it was not simple. It wasn’t until she lost Bai Cai that she broke free of the fear that had been instilled in her heart since she was a child.
She wondered what Bai Feng had to lose for him to break free of those ties that held him down.
Bai Feng didn’t reply; instead, he looked at Bai iyue’s hand, which was clutching a dagger. He asked, "Are you here to kill ?"
"You were bitten by a zombie," Bai iyue stated without any fluctuation in her voice. It was as if she was looking at a stranger rather than her brother, with whom she had grown up.
Hearing her response, Bai Feng nodded. He knew that the chances of his survival were really less. He let go of his injured hand and rummaged around before pulling two bags of strawberry and peach-flavoured gummy candy.
"Here take this."
"I am not bringing anything to the Bai family," sneered Bai iyue as she refused to take the packages that Bai Feng wanted her to hold.
"It is not for them; it’s for you." Bai Feng cleared up her misunderstanding. "You like to eat them, don’t you?"
Only then did Bai iyue recall that she indeed liked to eat these candies. However, it had been so many years that she had forgotten that she used to eat them. After all, after the apocalypse started, these candies were no longer found and she gradually forgot all about them.
She stretched out her hand, took the packs of candies from Bai Feng and asked in a hoarse voice, "Do you want to say sothing else to ?"
"No," the man didn’t ask her to show rcy or leave him alone. He raised his head and stated, "Rather than dying in the hands of so monsters, I would rather die in your hands."
Though he spoke in a firm voice, Bai iyue noticed the fragility in his eyes. Bai Feng didn’t want to die, but he had no hope left.
Bai iyue stood in front of him; her eyes were still colder than ice and her calm face made it impossible for Bai Feng to see what was going on in her head. She raised the dagger in her hand and slowly approached Bai Feng before pressing the dagger on his veins, which were quite clear under the light.
As he had lost too much blood, his skin was paler than usual, and Bai iyue could easily see the blue veins jutting out. Bai iyue looked down at the man who had closed his eyes in resignation and gritted her teeth. All she needed was to apply a little more pressure and the Bai family’s biggest protector would be gone.
Just a bit.
’Yueyue, do you like peaches or strawberries?’ A ten-year-old Bai Feng held the two packs and asked her in a hushed voice. ’Don’t tell, Aunt Chu. I stole these packs from Grandpa. If Aunt Chu finds out, then she will take them away.’
’Then I want both.’ Her greedy, childish self replied.
’Ah, both?’ Bai Feng frowned. Although he clearly wanted one of the candy packs, he still handed her two packs because she asked for them.
"Go ahead and swipe the blade," Bai iyue snapped out of her mories when she heard Bai Feng’s voice. She looked down at the man and heard him say, "There is no need to hesitate."
